Octo is a custom built eight-string guitar. It is designed by Kosovan musician Liburn Jupolli and manufactured by Ari Lehtela of the Lehtela Guitar Factory in North Carolina. http://www.damfest.com/pdf/dam_2011_catalogue.pdf page 81

The guitar has eight individual string outputs which means that a different set of effects can be used on different strings. http://www.lehtelaguitarcraft.com/

Its tonal range reaches from the low E tone on standard bass guitar tuning to the high D tone on a standard guitar tuning http://www.damfest.com/pdf/dam_2011_catalogue.pdf page 81

, thus encompassing the tonal ranges of both guitar and bass guitar. http://www.lehtelaguitarcraft.com/

It is generally tuned to EAGDCEAD. http://www.damfest.com/pdf/dam_2011_catalogue.pdf page 81

Frets 1 to 7 (21) have two additional micro-tonal frets per semitone, so the seventh semitone fret is actually the twenty-first fret; frets 8 (22) to 12 (31) have one additional micro-tonal fret per semitone, so the twelfth semitone fret is actually the thirty-first fret and frets 13 (32) to 24 (43) are standard semitone frets. Thus, Octo has a total of 43 frets. http://www.damfest.com/pdf/dam_2011_catalogue.pdf page 81

A Ken Armstrong custom Humbucker pickup makes it possible to use of every string separately with 8 individual outputs. Liburn makes use of this by leading the output of every string through a different set of effects. The tuning he mostly uses is EAGDCEAD. http://www.damfest.com/pdf/dam_2011_catalogue.pdf page 81
