From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Twenty-sixth Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan, officially known as the 26th Constitution Amendment Bill 2024, also known as the Constitutional Package, is a set of constitutional amendments — containing 22 clauses — including the fixture of the chief justice’s term.

On 18 October 2024, a proposed draft of the constitutional amendment was approved in the parliamentary special committee.[1]

On 20 October 2024, the Cabinet approved the bill during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.[2]

Later in the day, the bill was introduced in the Senate of Pakistan by the Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar.[3] The senate then voted 65-4 to approve the bill with the required two-thirds majority.[4]
