Article Critique
[edit]I visited the two-stroke engine page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on. first this article had multiple warnings stating that "This section does not cite any sources" had , Secondly the emissions subheading could use some work it as it lacks information on the harmful emissions the engine produces, and Lastly the subheading explaining lubrication was over-represented and over explained. This Wikipedia article does a good job of informing the reader of what it is suppose to but lacks citations, and misleading the reader.
First, Upon loading up the page and scrolling down I noticed the page has multiple warnings indicating that there was not proper citations of the information. This was an easy fix as the information was mostly correct, it was just not cited. I was able to find some cites and information to support the statements made on the page.
The second thing I found interesting was the information on the emissions and application of these engines. The Wikipedia article states that "a two-stroke engine produces air pollution no worse than a four-stroke" I found this as untrue as a post from The Washington Post titled How bad for the environment are gas-powered leaf blowers? The Washington Post stated that "The two-stroke engine has developed a reputation as an environmental hazard" I found this quite intriguing.
Lastly, The subheading of Lubrication is every importation part of this article but I think five paragraphs and a little over 650 words is a bit much. This subheading start to venture off topic of lubrication and starts to explain "freewheel mechanism" , "powertrain" and also talking about using breaks in all stopping situations and not compression breaking.
The Two-Stroke engine Wikipedia article does a good job at defining what a two-stroke engine does and how it works, but has some flaws. The article doesn't have citations to prove or support its data and information, also in some areas misinforms readers. The page has more then a couple of citation warnings and misleading information that is questionably true.
Bio
[edit]I am a current high school student in my senior year, and part time collage student at Evertt Community Collage. I like to ride dirt bikes and just be outdoors having a good time. I also have a passion to work on small engines and work on and repair cars. I just enjoy anything that has wheels an engine and goes fast. I find the machines, engines, and technology that is around us everyday so fascinating. After high school I plan on getting a degree in mechanical engineering.
I have had some experience with Wikipedia at school, but Wikipedia is somewhat shamed on in high school as it can be a unreliable and unverifiable site. I plan to use Wikipedia to find information on topics we will be working on in class and my own personal interests.
