Bio

[edit]

I am an aspiring photographer that calls the Pacific Northwest home. More specifically, I feel at home in the North Cascades of Washington State. I am an athlete that participates in competitive cross-country and track. Additionally, I have a love for other physical activites that allow me to access the wilderness such as mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, and canoeing. Literature is a subject that has long interested me because of its ability to change the way that people think about different things. My favorite novel is A Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins.

After being introduced to wikipedia by a college professor of mine, I made an account. I have a newfound excitement to be a contributor on this platform. My goal is to update out of date pages that cover outdooor recreaction areas. Also, I plan to create new pages to inform others about incredible outdoor recreation areas that do not have any existing information about them online.

Article Evaluation

[edit]

Of all of the mountains that I have climbed, Mount Pugh is the most memorable. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and would like for the wikipedia page on this mountain to provide acurate and helpful information to others so that they can have a similar experience. I visited the Mount Pugh page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its quality information about the hiking trail, its lack of a link to Wikipedia's Verlot Ranger Station page, and its lack of more information on the Northwest Ridge.

Quality Information

[edit]

One piece of this Wikipedia artlicle that had some very helpful information was the external links section. Here, a link to SummitPost.org was provided, giving the reader credible information about the trail such as the distance, vertical gain, and how to access the trailhead. This information is valuable because it gives the reader an understanding of the relative difficulty of the hike and helps them to navigate their way up the mountain without getting lost. Additionally, there was a rating provied for the scramble at the top, which happens to be a class 2-3. This piece of information will allow the reader to assess whether or not they are capable of clearing such an obstacle, adding a measure of safety to their trip.

[edit]

On my adventure up Mount Pugh, the Verlot Ranger station gave me information about the weather up on the mountain as well as other details that were specific to the day. It is also one of the very last places to stop that has a functional restroom. Because of how valuable these services are to making the hike better, I think it would be a worthwhile endeavor to add a link to the Verlot Ranger Station page within the Mount Pugh Wikipedia Page.

Lack of Information

[edit]

While there was plenty of great information about the trail that leads to the summit of Mount Pugh, in my opinion, there should be more information about the Northwest Ridge. More information on this subject would add value to the page. This information could be added by way of citing some information from mountaineers.org about the Northwest Ridge. Their page on this subject is quite developed and provides in depth information. Most of the information on this page was unknown to me before I accessed it so I'm sure it could be beneficial to others as well.

Summary

[edit]

All in all, I would say that this page is decent for what it is but could definitely use some more development because of the lacking information that I addressed above. The sources that the article does provide were very strong and credible and offered up great information. This existing information is helpful for informing people about the mountain itself and its history. However, more details and sources would greatly increase its usefulness in getting people safely up the mountain.
