Amerivision Song Contest

The Amerivision Song Contest 1996 was the fourty-first edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Canal 1. The edition was hosted in the Coliseo Humberto Perea, in Barranquilla, Colombia, as the winning country of the 1995 edition, Jamaica, refused to host the event after already hosting the previous year's edition, the offer then, was made to the runner up of the edition, Colombia, that accepted to host the event.

Host picking

[edit]

Ten colombian venues bidded to host the event, the italic bids were shortlisted and the bolded bid was the selected one from the shortlist.

Relegations

[edit]

Continuing the relegation method implemented last year, this edition saw two more countries being relegated, those being Bolivia and the US Virgin Islands.

Bahamas and Venezuela returned to the contest in this edition, however, Aruba, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Paraguay withdrew. This edition also saw the debut of Belize.

In this year, the former results used to calculate the average increased to four.
