Tomorrow the GA review for Paris begins. I've spent a few hours sorting out most of the sources but there are still a lot of unsourced paragraphs, particularly cityscape. If you have a moment can you help ensure that every paragraph has adequate sourcing. Use sfn for books, even if just one citation. I'll try to edit it tomorrow.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:42, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Wow, super work on the Los Angeles article! Spent a few hours today editing the Paris article. Gradually getting into shape. Can you and Rosie try to add content to Cuisine (not only cuisine diversity and actual food but Michelin and other restaurants/chefs/culinary schools), Fashion and Religion? It could also use more on Art and the Parisian art scene. Tomorrow I will focus on the cityscape and try to get it to read better. The second half needs the most work but with a bit of effort like Marrakesh I think we can promote it to GA and have a super important global city under our belt and a nice compliment to the Calais GA. Paris it seems then is our GA of the month for July! Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:57, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Very tough but the natural reaction is to not to bother and say "too hard". Tim riley the reviewer thinks it is near GA level but for the sourcing. Sourcing has improved, but as you say quality of the second half needs sorting out and the lead needs expanding to reflect the whole article. I'm taking it as a challenge, hopefully Tim will allow a week or two more for improvements. If we could get an article like Paris to GA with that level of hits and importance it would be a landmark achievement for us I think. Let's see how it goes anyway..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:23, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Marrakesh

[edit]

Thanks. Yes a very vigorous review, one in fact I'd normally find too excessive but for the fact I think Marrakesh has FA potential. I'll try to address as many of the remaining points as I can. I've begun expanding Badajoz, a somewhat dark and mysterious city of great interest. You may wish to check the original char and state it on the RBN page. I aim to get it to GA status once we're done.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:58, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Don't forget to update you user page with the Paris GA, you did help..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 07:28, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Believe I've addressed the Marrakesh issues, see my comments on the page. It also covers this for Badajoz. Basically note the surname parameters and that all the last1 last2 last 3 for surnames need to be listed in the sfn template divided by | . This way when you click the sfn note it'll highlight the book in the bibliography. Don't worry about the translation material for the landmarks now, I'll take care of that, and once done you might find some sources and further info, the Moorish fortress looks very interesting indeed.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:36, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I've done some more of the c/e but 2 issues remain which I've brought up on the RBN talkpage as I can't find the refs myself. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:51, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I feel honored that for a nanosecond, I have a higher dyk count than you. LOL. It actually feels rather humbling to be in the #2 spot, between you and Dr. B; we've done a lot of writing together. But the factoid is that you'll reach 1000 before me, and I'm totally fine with that, my friend. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:51, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Off to enjoy some sun now, will continue on Badajoz later. Can you try to expand the Civil War section, there's important details in the articles on them and in books. I think it should be about the same length as the 1812 section. Article already approaching GA quality, another day's work and I'll have it polished and nominated. If you and Rosie could try to improve the sourcing for landmarks too this would be great.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:18, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

In case you haven't seen it, there's a question on the Bibliothèque de la Sorbonne talkpage regarding a sentence you added to the article. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:20, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Banghar Fort

[edit]

On Banghar Fort, shouldn't it be "Bhangarh Fort" as there is a city named Bhangarh? Also, was the city inside the fort or was the fort inside the city? Where is the King’s palace situated? It appears to me that the "legends" pertain to the city, not to the fort, is that right? I'm still sorting through the article's refs, i.e. Singh should be p. 188, not p. 18. -Rosiestep (talk) 00:46, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm going to pass on this one as I can't find any gbook refs for Banghar Fort (or even Bhangarh Fort). Some of the refs (Rajputana, Singh, Stern) mention the locale of Bhangarh -- which already has an article -- but these 3 authors don't say anything about a fort. The two photos in the fort article are both of "Bhangarh Fort" (again, the spelling of "Bhangarh") so I do believe such a place exists, but it makes me wonder if Bhangarh was a "fortified city" in which case Banghar Fort could be a Redirect. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:33, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

I c/e Ourense Cathedral, including the Tombs section using the en language version of that ref; and I change out the es ref for the en ref so that reviewers could avoid translation issues. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:51, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Sfn

[edit]

Here forward, I think we should use the sfn style of referencing whenever possible. It will improve the quality of the article, even if only in a small way. What are your thoughts? --Rosiestep (talk) 01:33, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Cool. I'm working on Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple tonight, includin changing the ref format to sfn. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:45, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

If you can assist with the splitting of the nom (per nom discussion), that would be great, or I'll do it after work today. I've added the suggested ALTs at the bottom of the review page. Thx. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:59, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

According to Bluemoonset there is no need to have separate template. You have already done it.--Nvvchar. 19:20, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that that when I got home from work; it was good news! Also wanted to let you know that I offered an ALT for art in Paris and I'm hopeful it's satisfactory... if not, I'll suggest another. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:44, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

ICHTHUS

August 2013

From the Editor

Welcome to the August 2013 issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter. We focus on the historical Jesus and reflect on the last month.

The project has another featured picture, The ruins of Holyrood Chapel, a digitisation of an oil-on-canvas painting. Our top-importance article, Jesus, has been nominated for Featured Article status, the discussion can be seen here; Knights of Colombus has also been nominated as a FAC.

Ecgbert (bishop) and Church architecture in Scotland have both this month achieved Good Article status.

Our project had several of its articles featured in the main page DYK section, including Hinckley Priory, Little Chapel, St Peter's Church, Ropsley, Chip Ingram, St John the Evangelist's Church, Corby Glen, Great George Street Congregational Church, St Mary's Church, Walton-on-the-Hill and Bunge church.

Our thanks go to all of those who have worked to achieve these article milestones.

Church of the month

This image, of Maillezais Cathedral and created by Selbymay was this month promoted to featured picture status.

Focus on...

THE
HISTORICAL JESUS

What was Jesus like? What did he preach? Did he claim to be the Messiah? Did he predict an apocalypse? What can we know about him outside a religious context? The Historical Jesus article discusses what can be known about Jesus with various degrees of probability. While scholars agree on the over all flow and outline of Jesus' life (his baptism by John, debated Jewish authorities, healings, and his crucifixion by Pilate) they have built various and diverging portraits of the rest of his life. These range from minimalist portraits that accept very little of the gospel accounts to maximalists who accept most of the accounts as historical.

The portraits of Jesus have at times been unwitting reflections of the researchers themselves, and Crossan once quipped that some authors "do autobiography and call it biography". However, the study of historical Jesus has made one thing clear: there is so much to learn about Jesus that the more one looks, the more there is to discover.

From the bookshelf

Jesus of Nazareth: An Independent Historian's Account of His Life and Teaching by Maurice Casey 2010 ISBN 0-567-64517-7

In this book Maurice Casey not only draws on his special expertise in the Aramaic traditions and the Q source, but provides a comprehensive review of the various approaches to the historical Jesus.
