Niue

[edit]

Fao (god) might need a tad more to make it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:03, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Rosie might give it a read, tweak and nom.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:19, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Can you ask Material scientist to move the Eq, Guinea park to the mainspace? I mean after Rosie's finished it of course.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:47, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Great work, both of you!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:49, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
  • @Dr. Blofeld: Thanks. Probably Fao and the Niue mythology article could be a DYK double. Please suggest hook text for the double, and also for the Coconut article.--Nvvchar. 09:32, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes I was thinking the same. Will wrap it up shortly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:34, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Nvv and Dr. Blofeld, I'm done with this article. Please nom it and whatever else needs attention. I'm traveling for the next several days with limited opportunity for editing. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:55, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Dr. Blofeld Rosie has complted her edits to this article and wants us post it on DYK. Pl move it maini space Suggested hook ...that the name of the island "Niue" is the local name for coconut?--Nvvchar. 10:20, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Yes, go for it, although the main article says it means "behold the coconut" rather than purely "coconut".♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:27, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

We've probably done Morocco in thinking about it but started User:Nvvchar/Amanjena.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:02, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

  • No problem. I know you are fond of writing on luxury hotels; we have done a number of them and Marrakech is our GA also. I have completed my inputs.--Nvvchar. 13:00, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
That was quick! Yes, the Aman Resorts, especially, we've done some in the past.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:38, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
@Rosiestep: Want to add anything/c/e? Can't say that this one is an advert LOL!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:09, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

He's still there at the moment I think!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:08, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
If you google image it it's a fantastic looking place, like a Moorish palace. Sunset there must be awesome. Char, perhaps you could ask on flickr for some images?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:45, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

I've done my bit, and I think it's ready for nom. If you want to expand Palmeraie (Marrakesh) with the content from the French language Ghachem ref (see Further reading section), we can make it a double. Hook1: ... that Amanjena, located in Marrakech's Palmeraie, was the site of David Beckham's 40th birthday celebrations? --Rosiestep (talk) 20:58, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Indeed, cleverly fitting both into a Beckham hook!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:57, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
The problem is the Amanjena resort is in the southeast, the Palmeraie article claims in the north...♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:55, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Looking at the map, the original Palmeraie -- the one in the article -- is indeed in the north. There are apparently additional palm groves (palmeraies) surrounding Marrakesh, including one in the southeast where Amanjena is located. ClubMed Palmeraie Marrakesh is yet another one. So this will not be a double-hook. If you still want to mention "palmeraie" in the Amanjena article, it should be clarified that it's not situated in the Palmeraie (Marrakesh). And probably something should be added to Palmeraie (Marrakesh) regarding the other palmeraies. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:24, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Nvv and @Dr. Blofeld: Let's try this again with hook2: ... that Marrakesh's Amanjena was the site of David Beckham's 40th birthday celebrations, and a film locale for Sex and the City 2? --Rosiestep (talk) 02:00, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Yup!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:54, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

  • QPQ Done.--Nvvchar. 09:22, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

You can go for the Palmeraie article, I've not really contributed to that one. BTW are either of you having trouble with google books? It comes up with a "500. That’s an error. " currently.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:54, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

  • @Dr. Blofeld: Facing same problem with Google books. Hence not able to find sources for new articles for Kerala temples; the references available are all self sources of the temples or travel sites.--Nvvchar. 07:49, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Char and @Dr. Blofeld: We're not going to nom Palmeraie. It needs a lot more work before it would be good enough for nom, including translating all the missing stuff from French gbooks. I don't feel up to it. I used google books this morning without any problems but haven't tried it tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:20, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Thankyou. I'd guess that temples in Bangladesh are poorly covered on here.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:31, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
  • @Dr. Blofeld: Added one more which probably can become a DYK and listed 8 more to do. Could not locate the coordinates.--Nvvchar. 09:41, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

I've created four more stubs but can't seem to find anything about them? Can you expand them?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:44, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
I found the adobe ref which I downloaded. Can you locate the url to add for the refs? There should be other sources too on this. Very interesting place Puthia, in fact we ought to have a detailed series on it linked by a navbox. Bara Ahnik Mandir has some features like chaucala which don't seem to have articles too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:18, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
  • @Dr. Blofeld: Could not find much but I have added more references to support the stubs.--Nvvchar. 09:09, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

Can you add a bit to Tarapur Mandir, Dol-Mandir and Chhota Shiva Mandir? How many more temples to you think that complex has? It might be good to start a series on it with a nav template but it doesn't seem like the temples have that many sources individually.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:10, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

  • I agree with the reviewer. The site is written by K. E. Eduljee and his name re-appears over and over and over on the various pages of the website. The link to his blog is one of the tabs at the top. Also near the top, it says: "Image credit: Various. Wikipedia". So, yes, a self-published website. Crete

[edit]

Another Crete one, you might find some more scraps for 1630 Crete earthquake. Page 5 of the ref 3 PDF has some extra minor details, and might find a bit more elsewhere. Only need to add a sentence or two and you can nom. If something on Kythira Strait or Cretica Chronika can be found could be a few of them in one, no worries if not though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:06, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Perhaps Cplakidas might be interested in this, the Cretian Chronicles especially.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:14, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Nvv and Dr. Blofeld I'm working on 1630 Crete earthquake. Can we agree to stick with sfn referencing style on our articles? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:21, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
No, because it takes longer when stub building!! I had no idea it would be one which we'd work on together. For ones I know we're going to work on together, don't we always do that anyway?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:28, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Ok.
Nomed Template:Did you know nominations/1630 Crete earthquake, and included Kythira Strait (stubbed it) in the hook. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:20, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Rosiestep Dr. Blofeld Kythira Strait is now much more than 1500 ch. You can make it a double now. Pl see.--Nvvchar. 17:51, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. One small problem though is that the strait seems to be off the northwest coast of Crete and the locators for the earthquake indicate southwest coast!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:43, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Arghhh; can someone sort out its location? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:04, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
It's definitely the sea passage to the northwest of Crete, also known as the Kithera Channel. The sources definitely say Kythira Strait, so perhaps that source with the locator has it wrong? I'll tweak the earthquake article. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:34, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Char, can you source the geography section? I found some shipwrecks on wikiatlas, some of them might have sources to Kithera Channel if somebody searches. We should really have a double here now we've come this far!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:42, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

@Rosiestep: We could now potentially make this a triple: I suggest that in 1988, K. G. Tsiknakis published two previously unpublished accounts of the 1630 Crete earthquake, which occurred in the Kythira Strait, in the Cretica Chronica? If anybody can find enough on K. G. Tsiknakis could be a quadruple ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:51, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: the earthquake article has been approved. Now what? --Rosiestep (talk) 23:57, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
I'll propose an ALT hook and ping the approver. If he approves it all I'll add the credits for the others.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:38, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Well, I don't want to edit long, rambling articles on Hindu mythology, temples or work on getting such articles up to GA status with you admittedly—because of the workload, rather than my interest. I'm certainly interested in most of the article subjects you write about. I'm quite happy to do the odd Indian temple, town, palace, park, etc with you if it's kept short and sweet and that sort of length. Char you may add coordinates/infobox and a bit to Ngounie River and nom.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:04, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Nvv (I assume you've arrived safely in SD and are back to editing) or @Dr. Blofeld: Ngounie River needs to be nomed. I can do it tonight if you don't beat me to it. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:01, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

I passed 1500 ! No award for it yet, I guess we wait until 2000?♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:51, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

  • @Dr. Blofeld: Heartiest congratulations for 1500 DYK landmark. It will be a long time before we make it. I hope someone will desing a suitable DYK Award and post it soon.--Nvvchar. 14:34, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • @Rosiestep: @Dr. Blofeld: I have added text to Ngounie River and also infobox. But could not locate the coordinates. Here is the hook proposal ...that the river name, Ngounie, is a French rewording of "Ngugni", which was originally used by Vili language speakers in the Samba area in the mid 1800s?--Nvvchar. 14:35, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Nom actually has until 22 May. ALT1: ... that the river name, Ngounie, is a French rewording of "Ngugni", which was used by Vili language speakers in the mid 1800s? --Rosiestep (talk) 03:17, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
Either will do.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:23, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
Samba refers to the falls, which appear to go by Imperatrice Falls in the present day, which is why I removed that part. I just started Robert Bruce Napoleon Walker. If we can expand it enough, we could do a double. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:03, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

You did well Nvv, that source you used is very bloated and difficult to digest.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:28, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: I'll nom Walker tomorrow. Can you suggest a hook? --Rosiestep (talk) 02:15, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

...that the Pitt Rivers Museum has recorded 143 items collected by Walker? Probably too bland though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:52, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

  • My suggestion for the hook ...that Robert Bruce Napoleon Walker was a significant contributor of African artifacts to British Museums, in particular, his collection of African shields?--Nvvchar. 11:03, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Nomed Walker. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:28, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Forts

[edit]

@Rosiestep: Can you start this?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:52, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

@Rosiestep: I won't be editing much today!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:03, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: ok; no worries. Also, I'll get es:Fortificaciones de la costa caribe de Panamá / Fortifications on the Caribbean Side of Panama: Portobelo-San Lorenzo[2] / Portobelo, Colón sorted out tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:09, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

We'll take the stub focus more easier next month haha! I wanted to get it off to a good start. The remaining ones should last until the end of the month now, or the week anyway ;-) Next month you can pick more of the ones you want to do and we'll do less! Still, it's a very impressive mix of subjects!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:13, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: There is this, es:Fortificaciones de la costa caribe de Panamá and we do need this, Fortifications on the Caribbean Side of Panama: Portobelo-San Lorenzo [3], but Portobelo, Colón and Chagres and Fort San Lorenzo are entwined and I'm too tired to do the splits right now. Best to leave it for the weekend. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:04, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Char is good with UNESCO sites, perhaps he'd like to figure out how to do it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:22, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Char, I've split out the UNESCO site from Portobelo, Colón and Chagres and Fort San Lorenzo. There's more info in both of these which might be helpful for the UNESCO article. I won't edit it further tonight so I don't step on your toes. I also created the Commons cat; it has a jillion beautiful images. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:43, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Fantastic work folks. Superb start Nvv, very grateful. In fact, I sniff a future GA for this. I wonder how much material is available. It would be great to have a GA for somewhere like Panama.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:59, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Done.--Nvvchar. 02:36, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

  • @Rosiestep and Dr. Blofeld:. The UNESCO article is due for nomination today. Here is my suggestion for the hook...that 10 different fortifications (pictured a fort) built on the hills behind Portobelo port, made it the "most heavily fortified Spanish coastal control point in the Americas"?--Nvvchar. 10:48, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
yes, fine.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:53, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Nomed fort. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:51, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Mining in Africa

[edit]

These are the missing African mining articles. We could do a 16-way nom with something like: ... that mining is an important industry in Guinea, Lesotho, etc. Is it too much? Or is it like, if we don't do it, who will? --Rosiestep (talk) 05:07, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

It is a lot on the same subject yeah haha. But they need to be done all the same. I've allowed it up on the Inter board, but it will have to continue into next month that one. I think we should work on that long term and aim for a 16 in one hook.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:46, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Can we keep it in mind for next month? It would be best to have that as an ongoing thing next month.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:54, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

  • Any way I am ready for the task.--Nvvchar. 13:33, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

It can be a June Project, but I may start some of them in sandbox if it feels right. I like the way Mining industry of Algeria has turned out. I'll take a look at developing a group of headers for each of the articles we work on so that the articles are cohesive, though we may not be able to find an equal amount of information. I really enjoyed working with you two on the bigger sandbox projects of years past (i.e. provinces of Vietnam), so this is a return to that sort of thing. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:41, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Mining industry of Algeria uses these headers: History, Legal framework, Economic impact, Production, Structure of the mineral industry, Commodities, Outlook, References. It's a good go-by, although some of the 16 countries with missing articles will probably not have RS for all of these areas. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:20, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

"It can be a June Project, but I may start some of them in sandbox if it feels right." Yes make a start on them in sandboxes if you're happy to. When I said for June it was because the intertranswiki project still has a fair few left to blue link by the end of the month and didn't want to pile 16 mining articles on top of it haha! Best to have those listed next month and we can put up the sandbox developments on the page.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:30, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Ok, that's cool. It could actually be amazing to have several editors working on the sandbox articles, spreading out the work amongst more than just the 3 of us. We just need to be clear about why these mining articles are in sandbox, i.e. the goal of a large dyk nom. Started with Madagascar; the refs (and EL) I've included have enough material for a start class article. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:20, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Nvv, please watch the length again. Recently I've noticed you've begun going back to the long articles, Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki/Sandbox/Mining industry of Guinea is now over 8 kb. If there's 16 articles like that it's way too much to check and edit. Keep things short and sweet. I do think we can afford to add a bit more for these, particularly if it is a notable industry, to give a fairly decent overview, but over 8kb is too much for this I think. 4 or 5 kb max ideally. I've moved some material into Geology of Guinea BTW. Now a Geology series of Africa at some point would also be viable ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:58, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Agree that we need Geology of Foo for every country in Africa but another month or my head will start spinning hehe!! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:21, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

The Lesotho one is ideal length, lets keep them like that generally for this batch.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:35, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
