Wikipedia Asian Month is COMING!

[edit]

Hi Nvvchar ,

The Wikipedia Asian Month will begin in less than an hours, and once again, thank you for signing up! Let's help the world know more about Asia! Below are a few reminders for you:

  1. Please check out the rules here. Some rules have been adjusted—the most important being that on the English Wikipedia, stubs may be expanded with some limitations.
  2. Do take the time to read the Q&A if you have any questions, or ask on the talk page.
  3. The list of participants has been alphabetized so you can more easily find your name and report your contributions.
  4. There is a template that you can use on your user page. {{Template:User Asian Month‎}}

Enjoy the Wikipedia Asian Month :) --AddisWang (talk)

World Virtual Edit-a-thon on Women in Science

  • Dates: 8 to 29 November 2015
  • Location: Worldwide/virtual/online event
  • Host/Facilitator: Women in Red (WiR) in collaboration with Women scientists: Did you know that only 15% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women? WiR focuses on "content gender gap". If you'd like to help contribute articles on women and women's works, we warmly welcome you!
  • Sponsor: New York Academy of Sciences
  • Event details: This is a virtual edit-a-thon hosted by WiR in parallel with a "phyisical" event during the afternoon of Sunday, November 22 in New York City. It will allow all those keen to improve Wikipedia's coverage of women in science to participate. As the virtual edit-a-thon stretches over three weeks, new participants will be able to draw on the assistance of more experienced editors while creating, translating or improving articles on women who are (or have been) prominent in the field. All levels of Wikipedia editing experience are welcome.

@Nvvchar: Per your request, I reviewed and added some text to Devi Upanishad. It looks to be in good shape, for a DYK. ALT1: "...that Devi (goddess) is the fountainhead of all mantras." ALT2: "....that Devi (goddess) is Shakti and essentially Brahman (ultimate reality)", or any other. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 20:01, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you

[edit]

Thank you very much Doug Coldwell. Very touching comments from a friend.--Nvvchar. 11:14, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Especially if you notch up just how many articles you've created/expanded on non anglo centric topics Mr. Char, you're a very important editor here. I don't know how you stay so enthusiastic with wikipedia, I find I have to regularly take breaks from here nowadays otherwise I don't think I could continue to edit here and remain passionate about it! You do seem to avoid most of the drama though, that does help ;-) I'm still up for the odd A-Z article but I've reduced what I do and try now to keep focused on one core article mainly. Did you read the Frank Sinatra article? That's a personal record for number of sources used! 160,000 hits a month!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:27, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Nvvchar, this nomination was just promoted to prep, but not only is the hook fact not inline cited by the end of the sentence in which it appears, but the quoted word, "incognito", is not similarly cited, and should have been even without it being a hook fact.

Please add the appropriate inline source citation at the end of that first Legends section sentence right away, and everything will be fine. If you don't do so, I'll have to pull back the hook until that's taken care of, but I thought it would be simpler if I just asked. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:15, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Thanks, BlueMoonset. I have fixed the reference as suggested. Nvvchar. 15:08, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Nvvchar, thank you for taking care of it so quickly. I think that the ref at the end of the sentence would have been sufficient (since they're both the same), but if you want to include it there and after the quoted word, that's fine, too. Apologies if I wasn't clear on what I thought was needed. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:17, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement

[edit]

Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!

Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).

If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:

Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.

We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
