[edit]
  • You have already 5x expanded the article. I shall add some more details on Vivekananda—MacLeod relation. Meanwhile I have 5x expanded Swami Vivekananda (film). Yesterday I watched the film and it was a disaster. Anyway, I have already done 5x expansion and now only the prose copyediting remains. Can you do it? We have 60 hours or so in hand. You can nominate the article at DYK too. Please mention that "Mithun Chakraborty" getting his third National Award for the film Swami Vivekananda in the hook. That is the only good thing in the movie. You do not need to do QPQ. I am already doing it, link Template:Did you know nominations/21st Arizona Territorial Legislature as QPQ.
Alasinga Perumal was a great person, the article was DYK-ed on 31 May this year. The hook was Did you know that... ... that Alasinga Perumal (pictured) sold his wife's jewelry to help the financially beleaguered Swami Vivekananda, a participant in the 1893 Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago?'. Very rarely I select such a sensitive/emotional hook. All other things I have to say about Alasinga Perumal, I have already written those in the article, please read this section Alasinga_Perumal#Relationship_with_Swami_Vivekananda to learn what a great man he was. It is unfortunate that today's Indian/South Indian people are forgetting him. I'll inform you after doing work in MacLeod article. --TitoDutta 22:10, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]

Your recent joining has brought new life to Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth day celebration. In September 1893 Vivekananda gave his famous Chicago lectures. Six of his lectures in Chicago are generally referred and can be found in his Complete Works. I have started requesting DYKs on the dates he delivered lectures at Chicago. You will understand these from the template below. I don't hope to see 6 DYKs on the 6 dates mentioned below. But, at least 2—3 are expected.

Swami Vivekananda in California

[edit]

Good idea, But, name the article Swami Vivekananda in California and not Vivekananda in California. It'll be a difficult work. And let me know right after starting the article, I'll join. And Swami Vivekananda article is both GA and FA ready. If you want to nominate it for GA, you can do it, I asked User:Dwaipayanc to nominate, but, he seems busy in real life, everything including the requested GOCE copyedit has been done to, else I'll nominate it for GA in next few days. --TitoDutta 05:03, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Yes, go ahead aand nominate for GA. That sould not be a problem I guess. FA is different game though.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:42, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, the article is not ready for FAC. IMO, there are too many subsections in some sections, such as the section on Ramakrishna.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:34, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Re: Vivekananda GA

[edit]

That sounds fine. Take your time. Since Swami Vivekananda in California is a time taking article, you can start any short article too. In January 1887, Narendranath Datta (i.e. Vivekananda) and 11 disciples of Ramakrishna took monastic vows. It was a notable event. At least 7 of those disciples are notable. Can you suggest a title to create an article on this event Monastic vows of Narendranath Datta and other disciples of Ramakrishna? Or Monastic vows of Narendranath Datta and other disciples of Ramakrishna (1887) Or Initiation of Narendranath Datta and other disciples of Ramakrishna into Sannyasa? Note: in Vivekananda article, there was an unwritten consensus, till July 1893 Vivekananda will be addressed as Narendranath (since he was named Vivekananda by Ajit Singh at that time), that's how the name "Vivekananda" is absent in my suggested titles. --TitoDutta 22:49, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

  • I can not understand Ramakrishna’s (1887) sanyasi vows to Narendranath Datta What does Ramakrishna's Sanyasi vows mean? Ramakrishna died in 1886. "Arise, awake..." is also DYK ready. I'll do the remaining works. Currently I am working in Nachuk Tahate Shyama, see if you can only 2—3 sentences from here. The poem is a complicated one. You can start the California article in your usersapce, I'll be expanding it in next two days. --TitoDutta 03:03, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Note, I have transliterated the two lines of the "Worship" section. See the Devanagari secript too. If you change something there, transliteration will need to be changed accordingly. a) I could not understand i) via ii) viboh b) shashttih — pronunciation not clear c) sadhya modate — two different words or a single word? if you can provide me the exact Devanagri secript, I can do a better transliteration. Tools used: I have used this Devanagri IAST coverter and Google cloud input tool. --TitoDutta 06:15, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

5x expansion of John Henry Wright is almost complete (4.5x currently). There is simply nothing in the internet. I had to read his long long thesis papers and books on ancient Greek civilization to expand the article. If you have some time, revise the article and add some content from this book. --TitoDutta 11:19, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

  • a) Not exactly 5x expanded, I'll see if they ignore all rule. b) There are already too many articles for September 2013 Vivekananda DYK celebration, I don't add any more article here. • a) Hope some will start the review soon. b) I'll add more content to Sister Christine and shall try to make it GA ready c) "Bhaujana Sukhaya, Bahujana Hitaya" is known as a Gautama Buddha's message (though it was first used in Veda), Swami Vivekananda (an ardent admirer of Gautama Buddha), took the message from him. It is also the All India Radio motto. I have not found exactly which portion of Veda mentions the sloka, I have trying to find. That article will may have section 1) "Vedantic concept of welfare", "section 2) concept of welfare" 3) "Vivekananda (including Kanyakumari resolve) Aurobindo, d) influence (All India radio etc). You may find some sources here. Influence of Gautama Buddha on Swami Vivekananda might be a nice article. Unlike California article, it'll be an easy one, believe me, it is an easy but important topic. In Vivekananda's own words "I am His (Buddha's) servant's, servant's servants (Bengali: Ami onar dasasya, dasasya das.", He was highly influenced by Buddha. If you start it, write it in a separate page like UserNvvchar:Influence of Gautama Buddha on Swami Vivekananda, so that it can be easily moved with history. Some portion of the California article needs rewriting, I'll come back to California and Resolve, Bahujana etc articles soon. Pavhari Baba was an Indian ascetic and yogi. He spent all his life in meditation. He reportedly used to meditate for days and even months (Vivekananda has given testimonial). Unfortunately nothing is known about Pavhari Baba, including his real name. The most reliable (and in fact the only) reliable source about his life is Vivekananda's writing. It was a difficult work to expand the article. Anyway, I somehow 5x expanded the article and it appeared on Wikipedia's DYK column on 9 July 2013. Do you think, it may become a GA? Due to my ill health, I am failing to concentrate anywhere at this moment. You have done a tremendous work at Bahujana. I have moved Ram Chandra Datta to mainspace. You may nominate it at DYK, select one QPQ from here User:Titodutta/DYK tracker. Brahmavadin was a journal started by Alasinga Perumal and few other Madrasi people. Alasinga died in 1909, and as usual, no one cares, the journal became irregular after his death and was finally succeeded by Vedanta Kesari. But, Brahmavadin IS notable, because, Swami Vivekananda published many articles here. I started writing on it at User:Titodutta/Brahmavadin. But, there is not much source. Chennai Math has published a collection of all Brahmavadin issues. Else, if you get the Alasinga Perumal book, there should be lots of information there too. --TitoDutta 10:41, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

  • About California, the first part written keeping his Chicago lectures (1893) in mind. We need to change and clarify, it was his second visit in the West. About Ram Chandra Datta, most probably, Ram Chandra, not only requested Narendranath Datta to go to Ramakrishna, but, accompanied him in the first visit too. They took a horse cart. I tried finding sources this morning, but could not continue for a long time. I'll try to come back to California and Ram Chandra Datta soon. --TitoDutta 10:41, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
  • a) Sister Sara? Sara Bull? And, that "Bahujana hitaya etc" was Vivekananda's Kanyakumari resolve, actually I started the article keeping "Kanyakumari resolve" in mind. Two sources here, c) about Ram Chandra Datta hook, I thought to keep "accompanying him in the first meeting with Ramakrishna" in the hook. But, where is that information? So, a hook might be... "did you know he wrote "this" book on the life and teachings of Ramakrishna"? But, I wish to somehow include the name of Vivekananda/Narendranath in the hook. --TitoDutta 06:07, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Eknath Ranade

[edit]

I am quickly recovering viral fever. I have started 5x expanding Eknath Ranade. It should not be a difficult work. Because, the whole biography was written in list. I have started converting to prose. TitoDutta 07:54, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Million award

[edit]
The Million Award
For your contributions to bring Swami Vivekananda (estimated annual readership: 2,100,000) to Good Article status, I hereby present you the Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Do feel free to add the appropriate user box if you feel it necessary. See the Million Award page for further details. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Congratulations. You'll also be glad to know that Aalborg passed GA. Excellent choice with the Nakhal Fort, I don't know if you noticed but that was one of my earliest articles on wikipedia. Fascinating looking place.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:24, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Would you be interested in getting Gandhi up to GA status Nvv?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:22, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

  • If you mean Mahatma Gandhi, then it is already a GA, I was the reviewer. TitoDutta 20:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Congratulations from me, too. What a wonderful award. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:59, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Surya Namaskar Yagna

[edit]

Surya Namaskar Yagna might be an interesting article. It'll cover Bihar User:Titodutta/Swami Vivekananda DYKs all over India. If you start it at your subpage, I'll continue work there. --TitoDutta 19:28, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Swami Vivekananda

[edit]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Swami Vivekananda is an urgent need. I want to move all my subpages to the WikiProject. Like the GA/FA nomination, here too, I am reluctant to start it myself. If you just start the first page and write one—two lines, I'll continue from there and will do all remaining works. TitoDutta 19:54, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

SNY 2013

[edit]

Actually it seems to be two articles there, and I missed this last day a) Surya Namaskar Yagna (main event) b) Surya Namaskar Yagna (2013). We may move some portion from this article to Surya Namaskar Yagna and discuss mainly the 2013 event here. TitoDutta 03:25, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

  • Okay, I'll edit the SNY article after 5x expanding the Swami Vivekananda 1955 film article, It is almost done. Someone added a Fanpov template in Joesphine MacLeod. I have reverted their edit. This article is scheduled for today's DYK and already in queue. Most probably they will revert my edit or post at talk. Let's see. TitoDutta 04:04, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Funny though. So be it.--Nvvchar. 04:29, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
  • 4 hours to go. Let's see if we can fix the issues there. Anyway, SNY seems to be a part of Yogathan. Off: we have this page which might be helpful sometimes --

Sara Bull

[edit]

Swami Vivekananda (1955 film) is 4x expanded (it was short article). Can you add 400 prose characters. Searching with film's name, director's name, year might be helpful. I have made some changes and shall add some more content (Vivekananda used to call her Dhira Mata) and there were few nice letters, I'll see if I can find those from here (section A—C).
Mandarin has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Swami Vivekananda where I have moved all initiative pages and most probably will move the drafts too Wikipedia:WikiProject Swami Vivekananda/drafts/title. TitoDutta 11:17, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

  • I have started moving drafts to Swami Vivekananda WikiProject, please access those drafts at WP:SVD now. --TitoDutta 12:21, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
I have finished adding Vivekananda's letters in the article *you may elete some portion from the second letter). Aurobindo dropped, DYK has been trascluded. TitoDutta 15:10, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
  • I have found this page. Dr R.Balasubramaniam (Balu), the author, seems to be a very learned man. I'll see if I can contact him. 15:17, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, couldn't find the 1918 shipwreck source but if you search List of shipwrecks in 1928, 1934,1942 etc you should find the others in the lists.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:00, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

I've added source now. Nvv can you update the A-Z list, it hasn't been updated since July 18th.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:29, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Influence of Swami Vivekananda

[edit]

I have started writing Influence and legacy of Swami Vivekananda, it is an important article which should be split into 4 more article. Only time will show the way. You may help the article. I'll try to make it GA ready as soon as possible. Let me know right after starting the Mysore article. --TitoDutta 17:45, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

  • I have finished my initial works at Influence and legacy. I was thinking to work on Daridra Narayan — an Indian concept of considering the poor people as God. Vivekananda coined the word, M. K. Gandhi also (widely) followed the principle. You may start the article at WP:SVD. I'll work there. There are many references, this one and Vivekananda's concluding lines in the poem "To a Friend" are also relevant. TitoDutta 23:34, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Swami Vivekananda DYK

[edit]

Hello, could you please nominate Swami Vivekananda at DYK? I asked at User_talk:BlueMoonset#Recently_passed_GA and they said, it is possible. But, unfortunately today is the last date. Only few hours hand. Please select a QPQ from User:Titodutta/DYK tracker TitoDutta 11:44, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

  • Write in the "Comments" section that it is "Newly passed GA article" Actually it is already 5 days and few hours, but, I anticipate that will be ignored, not too many editors know about this Newly Good Article — DYK slot. Yes, every rule should be same, one QPQ etc. TitoDutta 12:09, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
I have enough QPQ, can I nominate? Sohambanerjee1998 12:24, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
  • @ Sohambanerjee1998, No! Don't nominate. --TitoDutta Okay, nominate. But, quick. --TitoDutta 12:30, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
