Hello my fellow Wikipedians - I'm OCTopus. Let me introduce me to you:

[edit]
  • A registered Wikipedia user since November 2007, my main fields of interest are technical, historical and political issues. I do most of my Wikiwork improving content, syntax and grammar in German and English WP articles as well as translating articles into the opposite languages. I also upload my images to WikiCommons (please see my Terms of Use and License). My usernames are OCTopus (same on German WP - or use the link "Deutsch" on the left hand side of the screen) and OCTopus-en (Englisch WP) although, since September 2008, I use my global username OCTopus.
  • Art is a matter of taste. Some artists want to make us believe that their “art” is valuable whereas it just is something to impress his/her/their peers, friends and clients, sometimes being just what it really is: some big piece of crap!
  • Several tours of duty in the USA, more precise, to Fort Bliss, Texas, have gotten me so far into the English language that today I am able to communicate and translate text between German and English at a near native level. To me a sure sign of being fully able to communicate in a foreign language is when someone asleep dreams in the foreign language.
  • There's a saying: Reading promotes education. Right! Give me english or german literature!
  • Computers: partly leisure, partly aid, mostly tool. I don't like it, though, to be the victim of horseplay by operating systems or programs - I am not Mr. Know All, I'm just a user.
  • (American) Football is the single most interesting sport to me - man against man, tactics, strategy - almost like chess. Rather difficult to understand for newbies - but does everything have to be as simple as soccer???
  • Cycling keeps me in shape - to me, there is no better training for the cardio-vascular system.
  • During the snow period in Hesse (rare enough!) I like to do Nordic Skiing in the woods and trails of the Upland around Willingen. The Erzgebirge in Saxony , the Rennsteig in Thuringia or the Harz Mountains in Lower Saxony are good places if Hesse remains green in winter.
  • America ... Yes, You can! You've shown it in the 2008 Election!
  • Golden Retrievers are fine family dogs - I own one, so I know.

If you would like to communicate with me, please use my dicussion page.

Places I've visited

[edit]
I've been to these countries for a short trip or stop-over:

These countries I visited quite intensely:

I was stationed here for quite a while:
