This page gives some rough guidelines which we might use to decide if a webcomic is notable.

Many of us who spend a lot of time improving Wikipedia's webcomic coverage feel that notability is required for a webcomic to deserve an article here. Please note that the failure to meet any of these criteria does not mean an article must be deleted; conversely, the meeting of any of these criteria does not mean that an article must be kept. These are merely rules of thumb which some editors choose to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to keep an article that is on articles for deletion.

Also, please keep in mind that the article in question must actually document that the criterion is true. It is not enough to make vague claims in the article or rant about a band's importance on a talk page or AfD page—the article itself must document notability.

Criteria

There are several criteria listed here; any one of them, properly verified, should be taken as evidence of notability:

1. Unusually large readership. If a webcomic is exceptionally widely read, and this can be verified, it should be included. If this is verified by means of Alexa, it should have a ranking of 100,000 or better.
2. Coverage or inclusion outside the webcomics community. If a webcomic has significant mention, or has strips actually published in a major website outside the webcomics community or in a print magazine/newspaper with substantial circulation, it should be included.
3. Significant webcomics award. If a webcomic has won a significant award, it should be included. These include:
   • Eisner Award
   • Webby Award
   • Web Cartoonist's Choice Awards
4. Notable author. If an author is notable, either for having another comic published in a newspaper or for having a webcomic exceeding these criteria by a significant margin, then any of his/her webcomics should be included.
5. Membership in a syndicate. If a webcomic is a member of a professional syndicate whose members are selected by an editor with established notability, it should be included. These syndicates are:
   • The Modern Tales family (Modern Tales, Girlamatic, Graphic Smash, Serializer)
   • Keenspot
   • Blank Label Comics
   • Dayfree Press
6. Top 20 in a large webcomic hosting service. If a webcomic is verifiably amoung the top 20 most read strips on a large hosting service (even if it's one which anyone can join), it should be included. These hosting services are:
   • Comic Genesis (formerly Keenspace)
   • Webcomics Nation
7. Coverage within the webcomics community. If a webcomic has significant, detailed coverage in an editorially-written section of one of the major sources devoted to webcomics, it should be included. These sources are, currently:
   • Comixpedia (the journal, not the wiki)
   • The Examiner
   • Websnark
