Painting Styles

The artist's later works melded into a unique surrealist style, early influences were Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Man Yey, Y'ves Tanguey and James Gleeson. Later influences included American Low Brow art and the 'metaphysical'painters.
Subjects
[edit]Gehlert's recent subjects and titles centre around tongue in cheek satirical views of politics and technology. Titles like 'Fossil fuel Femme Fatale' and 'The crested Chinese Google bird' are examples of this. The artist's most remarkable iconic figure is the 'chrome plated Kangaroo' or 'Cyberoo'. This is them the artist has evolved over a long period since the mid 90s. These later morphed into 'Industrial nudes' the artist's unique representation of the female form.
