Here I Am

User Shinn81272 is freshman enrolled in a state university in coastal Georgia. In the academic world, English classes have been his favorite for a while now. He has had some great English teachers throughout High School that have seemed to all compliment each other in a way to give a full spectrum of different attributes. The grammar aspect of English class never really bothered him either, and he actually enjoys peer editing, he sort of has to considering how much he had to do it in High School. He now proofreads one of his roommate's papers on a regular basis. This user would like to be covering live music as a journalist someday.

Wikipedia Contributions

User Shinn81272 wrote a Wikipedia article on a band, the article got deleted very quickly. He thought the band, The Incredible Sandwich, had a lot of potential after seeing them live, and saw many parallels to other bands he likes that are much more famous. However other Wikipedia users did not see it this way and it got deleted. Basically the explanation for deletion was that just because the band was similar to other famous bands, despite the fact it had won quite a few awards and beat out another band that has its own Wikipedia page (Perpetual Groove) for an award in their hometown, does not warrant notability. User Shinn81272 has now successfully added an article about The Incredible Sandwich after adding sources and explaining in more depth why I think they are a notable band; his explanation is on his talk page.

Tech Wiz?

Alright, so maybe he's not an actual Wizard of Technology. User Shinn81272 is pretty average with computers and whatnot. It's not something he goes out of his way to learn. If there's something technological that he needs to learn, he just kind of crosses that bridge when he needs to. He's now taking a Computer Science class, so check back in a couple months, maybe he will actually be a computer wizard. But don't count on it. As with just about anything else, Shinn81272 thinks technology is good in moderation so to speak. He feels that so much technology has made people less focused. People have mastered the ways of multitasking almost to a fault. For example, it seems it not enough anymore to just watch TV, now people may be on the computer, watching TV and trying to eat all at the same time. Shinn81272 admits he's no exception to this change in behavior, but he doesn't necessarily like it. More specifically, some aspects of texting really annoys User Shinn81272. He finds it very disrespectful when someone carries on a conversation through texting while in the presence of other company.

Let's Get Philosophical, Wikipedia Style

User Shinn81272 has a sort of back and forth view on Wikipedia. Ever since he can remember, he has been told that Wikipedia is not a credible source, but he has always used it for getting information for personal use. He usually uses it for quick facts, for example where something is located or when somebody famous was born or died. The only topic he consistently uses Wikipedia to gain knowledge about is bands. He finds there are a lot of good Wikipedia pages on bands, and he can usually learn quite a bit from them instead of reading an entire book on a band he's not that into. As for the credibility factor, he does think that Wikipedia is reliable for accurate information in general, but he does understand why teachers and professors might not want their students using it for research. Most likely they just feel there are better options out there for sources in research, and User Shinn81272 tends to agree.

User Shinn81272 is a native English speaker and writer. He has taken a few years of Spanish, got through one year of AP Spanish in High School, but lost interest. He wouldn't be much help in the Spanish aspect of Wikipedia anymore.

• rode in the car to Canada when he was a little kid, did not enjoy...boring, along with an annoying baby cousin and a sister he did not always get along with..what was my mom thinking?
• once intercepted two passes on back-to-back drives when he was about 7 years old, and it was the highlight of his football career (which lasted a whopping one and a half years)
