Top Trumps Edits
[edit]Rather than trying to continue the edit war, I shall take you through what I reverted and why. I didn't just get rid of all your edits because some of it wasn't right, I read and selectively used the better revision.
- "Each pack of Top Trumps features in-game characters based on related subject matter and is full of stats, pictures and interesting educational facts."
- "in-game characters" -- Implies it has to be about a movie or TV series or something else with characters.
- "is full of stats, pictures and interesting educational facts."
- "full of" is opinionated -- a better word would be "contains".
- "interesting educational" -- missing a comma I believe, not the point though. This too is too opinionated for my liking.
- "statistical/numerical"
- The statistics are numerical though. This one is meh, I just didn't prefer it myself.
- "2-6 people can play. Deal out all 30 cards face down to the players. Each player holds their cards face up but may ONLY look at their top card."
- "2-6 people can play." -- You suggest this for divisional purposes obviously. In reality, the amount of cards = the amount of people that can play.
- "Deal out all 30 cards face" -- Only in WM packs. This article is covering all Trumps packs anywhere. This is not under the WM section so is therefore incorrect.
- "The player to go first chooses the ‘best’ statistic (usually the highest) from their top card, e.g. “Top Speed 252mph”. All other players read out the SAME statistic. Whoever has the best or highest value wins and places all the top cards including their own to the bottom of their pile. They then choose the statistic for the next round."
- "The player to go first chooses the ‘best’ statistic (usually the highest)" -- Not necessarily true. Players won't do know the best statistic as they are out of different things. They don't have to choose the best so it's incorrect.
- "e.g. "Top Speed 252mph"." -- I don't like using examples in wikipedia articles.
- "SAME" - Caps is evil.
- "Top Trumps is a hugely popular children's card game in the United Kingdom gaining its early popularity in the 1970s and 1980s, especially amongst boys, for whom it was a popular playground pastime. The topics tended to reflect this, and included military hardware, modes of transport and racing cars. The packs tended to be priced so that children could collect new packs by saving pocket money for a few weeks."
- "is" -- Irrelevant, this is the "Original Games" section therefore we are talking about the past.
- "hugely" -- Opinionated. I known an official forum that will beg to differ.
- "gaining its early popularity" -- Again, irrelevant, this is the "Original Games" section. Due to sectioning, it is unneeded to say this. If the sections didn't exist, it would have been fine, but they do.
- "In these new packs a description or biography of the item on each card is included, as well as the statistics and numerical data. The cards can also help deliver camouflaged learning, or learning through play, as reading about the facts on the cards, and enhancing memory and maths skills through the use of comparing the data, adds an educational benefit."
- "The cards can also help deliver camouflaged learning... benefit" -- All of this section is irrelevant. "Camouflaged learning" doesn't even make sense. I'd agree in some points, but the original paragraph appears to have mentioned them.
- "Many of the packs are, like their predecessors, becoming very collectible, especially those sold for limited times (such as those associated with films), or which were specially commissioned as promotional packs."
- "very" -- Opinionated. Words like "very" and "really" don't add to an encyclopaedic tone. They are used to make something sounds more to the extreme, and it's not necessary here.
- Top Trumps is now becoming more appealing and commercially available Worldwide. There are many packs that are only available overseas. These are:"
- Personal dislike really. I could say slightly opinionated but I suppose it's true.
- "has 4 Top Trumps"
- Yeah, you can't have read my edit very well because numbers from zero to ten should ALWAYS be in written-form.
- "high prices on auction internet sites."
- Unnecessary, and not necessarily true. There are other places I've seen it happen.
- "Super Top trumps are not only released in the United Kingdom. There have been many overseas STTs released, more recently in the USA. There have also been booster packs of 2-10 cards given out, the most recent being a Summer Reading Program in the US."
- Wikipedia should not list "most recent" in a page like this if it is a regular occurrence. We are to write as if this article were to be read three years down-the-line, but also update when something importantly new happens. As this is not important to the article, it can stay out.
So when you next edit the page take all this into consideration. I spent my time making the better edit, I spent my time telling you why it is better. ILHI (talk) 18:55, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, the pages on this wiki are not owned by anyone. I have been working on wikip for a while now, and I stick to keeping two pages perfected. I also do work on relative pages every once in a while. I am no high-up on the wiki, yet I know how wikis work (being admin of a wiki dedicated to Top Trumps it self :D (and other wikis but that doesn't matter)) and what I do is moderate input. There are few users who contribute to the page, and I welcome you to edit.
- And so you know, when I first started editing wikis, I knew nothing and had my works removed and completely rewritten. Though this was over two years ago, making me 12 at that point. (now 15, but my intelligence is not comparable to a kid :) ) You can see my old terrible writing here. Fan-tone somewhat.
- So hi, and welcome to the world of wiki. :D ILHI (talk) 23:16, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Image permission problem with Image:The Dog spread.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The Dog spread.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. McGeddon (talk) 18:05, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:The Dog spread.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:The Dog spread.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
