date of death unknown
[edit]In the article Konrad Bülte, you have written "date of death" unknown, can you explain this please? --13:05, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Well - it basically means just that - pretty much all sources I can find on Bülte list his death date as unknown (and given his date of birth it's rather unlikely he's still alive). It's not uncommon that there is only very little biographical data left for pre-WWI German footballers, since the early years of German football aren't that well documented. Alexpostfacto (talk) 13:13, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hm, actually I was thinking whether it was a Death in absentia. --Tito Dutta (Message) 13:17, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it wasn't - more likely the news of his death just never made it to the public Alexpostfacto (talk) 13:54, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
- I have made some changes in that section in the article, have a look.
And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with the way you've been replying but I thought you'd like to know the normal method we use for talk page conversations.

[edit]I've added templates to work on for the 2. Bundesliga matches. Would you be able to put in at least the first 11 matchdays? Kingjeff (talk) 19:13, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've added the games - exact dates are only known until matchday 8 anyway, so there's no hury yet to add the others. Alexpostfacto (talk) 22:48, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Danny Sonner
[edit]Hello, and thank you for correcting the details of Mr Sonner's German career. I've looked at transfermarkt and at the German WP article, but the only source for Mr Sonner's German playing stats that I can find are for the 1994/95 season at Erzgebirge Aue at transfermarkt. This may well be because I don't know my way round transfermarkt or weltfussball :-) but it would be helpful if you could add your sources to the relevant rows in the article's stats table. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 13:24, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hi - and sorry, there are no statistics for the other two seasons on those sites, so you didn't miss them (I mostly meant to point to those as a source for when he played at which club, since most English language sites mix up where he played when in Germany). I took the 93/94 and 95/96 statistics from a Erzgebirge Aue and a Viktoria Köln fansite. The links:
- http://www.viktoria-koeln-fancenter.de/artikel.php?nid=310 and http://www.bsg-wismut-aue.de/index.php?source=spieler&b=83&s=81
- There is a slight problem with the Aue one - they mixed up his goals for 94 and 95. It should read 21/6 for 95 (which is confirmed elsewhere) and most likely 22/4 for 94 then. Alexpostfacto (talk) 17:33, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I checked the 2004/05 goals as per Transfermarkt against the scorers in those 6 matches on [1], and all 6 of them are indeed there. However, I've been through 03/04 and he scored 6 goals in that season as well: 1, 3 and 2. So if the individual matchday details are right, it should be 21/6 for 95 and 22/6 for 94, and the total's wrong. Maybe just a typo on the 04/05 goals that they've added to the correct 03/04 goals to make an incorrect total. Hey ho... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:38, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking the individual games... I have no idea why it didn't came to me to check those myself, ahem. I think, given that there are complete line-ups for every league game, it's fine to asume he has 12 league goals for Aue. I also added his one Saxony Cup match to those totals, and since he didn't play in the German Cup his stats should be mostly complete (only excepions could be minor competitions with Köln). Alexpostfacto (talk) 20:04, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Dennis Schröder
[edit]Hi, concerning your edits: as you can see from his official stats provided by the bbl, your years are wrong. It is in fact true that he didn't play for the Phantmons until 2011 but here applies a special case: he is a part of their youth system (as you can see in the aforementioned stats with state "eigene Jugend" as previous clubs) and SUM is merely their farm/reserve squad. So what is done here is that he is under contract by the Phantom organisation without playing for their first team, meaning he started playing professional for them as contractors in 2010. A comparable case is Kevon de Bruyne, who is under contract by Chelsea without having ever played for them.DasallmächtigeJ (talk) 16:34, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- They are not the Phantoms' reserve squad in the same sense as the reserve sides of football clubs are. Legally, SG Braunschweig is a completely seperate club. They merely cooperate (the Phantoms are a GmbH, SG Braunschweig is a Spielgemeinschaft of two e.V.s. Players need a special license to be able to play for both teams (more on this: http://www.schoenen-dunk.de/news_a2351_Sonstiges_Doppellizenz-Ganz-oder-gar-nicht.htm), which Schröder didn't have until 2011. And he did play for the SUM Baskets during the 2012-13 season, the BBL site is incomplete then. Here are his stats from 12-13 from the Pro B's website: http://statistik.basketball-bundesliga.de/zweite/stats/player/index.php?team=441&saison=2012&spieler_id=15207
- And here a match report from March 2013, his last Pro B game for SG Braunschweig:
- http://statistik.basketball-bundesliga.de/zweite/stats/game/index.php?liga_id=3&wettbewerb=1&spiel_id=13931 Alexpostfacto (talk) 20:58, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, then the articles in both Wikipedias are wrong, as they state that SUM is merely their reserve squad now. I assumed that the bbl stats would be complete, since they also have his stats from the current bbl season but since that is not the case, I assume you are right. Even though, the Phantoms must have still loaned/sent Schröder to SUM, since he is a member of all their youth squads, the Junior Phantoms. So I'll change it back to the arrow-form but with your correct stats, it should be correct then.--DasallmächtigeJ (talk) 11:17, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
- The Junior Phantoms are, despite the name, the SG Braunschweig's youth team, in cooperation with the NY Phantoms (and a club from Wolfenbüttel): http://www.forthree.com/teamvorstellung-junior-phantoms-bswf/ They use the Phantoms branding, however. To call SG Braunschweig the Phantoms' farm team isn't all that wrong, since they officially cooperate. Reserve side can be somewhat misleading. So I changed it back, hope that's ok for you :) Alexpostfacto (talk) 11:42, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Hey Alexpostfacto
I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).
So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.
What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.
The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.
Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:15, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
Infoboxes and the visual editor
[edit]Hi. Sorry for having undo your edit on the Simeon Jackson page but, as you might have seen, the structure of the infobox had been destroyed. I noticed you'd used visual editor for that edit so maybe that was the reason? Might be worth watching the sorts of things that happen with the VE perhaps? Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:48, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- No problem - and visual editor must be the reason then - I never noticed this, but since you don't see the code when using the editor it's easy to miss. I readded the number by editing the source code (which obviously doesn't have that problem) Alexpostfacto (talk) 19:52, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Karim Bellarabi
[edit]I have reverted your additions as unreferenced. GiantSnowman 08:33, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- none of the information you have added is supported by a reference. If an existing reference supports it then please cite it. This is basic, basic stuff. GiantSnowman 09:41, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Your second post here came while I was writing on a longer reply on here. Anyway, it's pretty much overkill to put references behind every single sentence in a 5 or 6 sentences long article for facts that are entirely uncontroversial and supported by external links already (and honestly, if you challenge the fact that Bellarabi played for Eintracht Braunschweig and Bayer Leverkusen, one might as well delete the article, since this is the entire reason the article is here. I have merely added a minimum of prose to that). That's pretty much standard for articles on German players at least - Franz Beckenbauer, Paul Breitner or Gerd Müller don't have inline citations for basic stuff either (on the German wikipedia inline citations aren't required at all, btw). The career data is already referenced through kicker, so all youth clubs, his career progression and the transfers have a reliable source within the article. He has played for clubs from bremen since elementary school age, so him growing up in Bremen isn't exactly controversial either, but I'll add a source. The German FA unfortunately has a pretty bad website, so you would have to add a referece for every game he played in individually. The data is on www.dfb.de for everyone to check, though. If you want to challenge the information, here are the match reports for the U-20 games:
http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=504295&spielid=77&action=schema&teama=Deutschland&teamb=Schweiz http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=504295&spielid=78&action=schema&teama=Polen&teamb=Deutschland http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=504295&spielid=80&action=schema&teama=Deutschland&teamb=Italien http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=504295&spielid=81&action=schema&teama=Deutschland&teamb=Polen
Please refrain from reverting my edit again, since I am currently writing on the article.Alexpostfacto (talk) 10:21, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Read WP:BLP, anything that is contentious/unreferenced/poorly referenced about a living person should be challenged and removed, which I have done. As for youth years, there is consensus at WT:FOOTBALL that once a 'senior career' has started in the infobox, no further 'youth years' should be added to the infobox, if that makes sense. GiantSnowman 10:28, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Material that is likely to be challenged needs an inline citation. There's nothing in the rule that suggests that something that's entirely uncontroversial and already sourced has to be removed. As for the youth career - here players can make first team appearances before signing a senior contract. Bellarabi's first senior contract was in Braunschweig, and he played a full year with the U-19 team before he was promoted to the first team.Alexpostfacto (talk) 10:37, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- But it wasn't sourced! There was no in-line cite with the material you added, hence why it was removed fully per BLP policy. As for the youth career - contracts do not matter (what about amateurs, or non-contract professionals?) - only appearances do. As his first senior appearances were FC Oberneuland, he should not have youth years for Eintracht Braunschweig in the infobox (even if he spent time with the youth team, see Luke Freeman as another example). GiantSnowman 10:54, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- General references are a valid form of sources on wikipedia, see WP:CITE. BLP states that controversial material needs inline citations. A stub with general references for uncontroversial material through external links is pretty much standard, there are hundred thousands of articles on lesser known sportspeople, actors or artists who do this. As for amateur players etc. - in Germany there's no confusion on this. Amateur players still have to be registered with the FA and have official amateur status. Non-contracted professionals don't exist. So every player has a clearly defined official status at any point during his career. But I'll leave it out then.Alexpostfacto (talk) 11:12, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- But there was no indication at all that your edit was supported by an existing in-line reference or a 'general' reference, and just because other articles use such a format does not make it right in the slightest. Furthermore, where are comments such as "finally having his breakthrough" and "Bellarabi established himself as a starter" sourced from? Looks like pure OR to me. GiantSnowman 11:24, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well, the sources were already there after all, in the links section for example. And the sources show, that he went from one start out of 38 games in 2009-10 to 32 starts out of 38 games in 2010-11. If calling this "breakthrough" and "establishing himself as a starter" is OR, that's a ridiculously narrow definition. Non-controversial information only needs to be attributable, not attributed. If the stats show that a player started in almost every game of the season, I'd say that calling him an established starter can be considered information that can at least be reasonably likely expected to be veifiable and therefore a "citation needed" would suffice if you really want a citation. There's still WP:COMMONS, after all. Alexpostfacto (talk) 11:47, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- And by the way, you shouldn't edit articles if you haven't actually read the sources. And the source I added literally talks about him having his breakthrough season. Alexpostfacto (talk) 11:55, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- You're missing the point; there was nothing, in your edit or your edit sumamry, which indicated "the information I am adding is supported by the [X] and [Y] already present in the article" - and if you're using a source which 'literally' says it was a "breakthrough" season then quote it directly please. GiantSnowman 12:00, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- I am not missing the point - just disagree with your approach. I've already spent too much time on this, so I'll just leave it at that. I have corrected and reworded the passage, it should be neutral enough by any standard now (and probably preferable to me translating the quotes myself).Alexpostfacto (talk) 12:32, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Sigh, you have missed the point, and stating that you haven't is not helping the situation. Please, read WP:BLP before making any more edits to articles. GiantSnowman 12:35, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- BLP mainly refers to contentious material. And please refrain from assuming what I have read and/or understood. Alexpostfacto (talk) 12:43, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- No, it doesn't, see ongoing discussion here as well. If you have read it, I urge you to demonstrate that in your actions. GiantSnowman 12:45, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Neither the guidelines nor the discussion support the point that any claim in a BLP needs to be sourced. I get that it's your opinion, but that's stated nowhere explicitly, so it's open for interpretation. Anyway, you wanted sources for those edits, and I have added them, so the matter should be settled. So let's leave it at that here, and have a good day :).Alexpostfacto (talk) 13:12, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

German historical football leagues
[edit]Nice to see somebody creating articles on the pre-Second World War football leagues! Great work on the old Niedersachsen leagues. Calistemon (talk) 21:13, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! For the Brunswick leagues I have the books at home anyway - I might do some others sometime in the future, but for those I need to get some printed sources first (unless there is more in Hardy Grüne's book on pre-war football in Germany than I remember, since I have this one too somewhere) - wouldn't want to go just by websources :). [edit]Yes, I noticed your article yesterday and had a look already. Looks good. I have a look for a logo in the next few days. Calistemon (talk) 21:14, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking, then :). Alexpostfacto (talk) 21:19, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- I sourced a logo and added it to the article. The official club website also has an online version of 50 Jahre Rugby in Braunschweig which is handy. In it I noticed that the club is refered to as Welfen SC Heidberg, not Braunschweig. Do you know whether the club was renamed at some stage? Regards, Calistemon (talk) 08:02, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding the logo! The club indeed must have changed its name at some point, unfortunately I couldn't find out when. However, I edited the article to reflect that, and also moved the link to the online version to the first reference to 50 Jahre Rugby in Braunschweig. Alexpostfacto (talk) 08:17, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- To tell you the truth, I'm not sure if uploading content from Facebook is ok or not. I had a look through some policies and couldn't find anything in that regard. Given however that Facebook is not a reliable source it might be off limits for this purpose. Really not sure! Calistemon (talk) 14:15, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply anyway :). I couldn't find anything in the guidelines either, that's why I asked. The facebook page now seems to be the only official web presence of the team (the old url now redirects to facebook), but I guess I'll wait until they either relaunch the website, or the new logo appears on another site.Alexpostfacto (talk) 14:49, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Regards, Calistemon (talk) 08:02, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
tagging
[edit]Just checked, he is pretty in border of notability (has played one match in big league ) , but i accept his notability and have removed the tags check Shrikanthv (talk) 10:39, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- One game is enough according to the guidelines, that's why I created the article after his debut (I am also the main contributor to the club's season article). And thanks for removing them yourself :). Alexpostfacto (talk) 13:23, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Eintracht Braunschweig II
[edit]Given your interest for all things from Braunschweig I'm surprised you havn't created an article on Eintracht's reserve team. It would certainly meet Wikipedias notability criterias, having played in the DFB-Pokal on two occasions. I know the German Wikipedia is not keen on articles on reserve teams but here they are quite common. Keep well, Calistemon (talk) 01:24, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi - I have actually thought about creating one just recently after seeing your article on reserve teams. I might create an article soon :). Alexpostfacto (talk) 12:07, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- Now that was quick. There is quiete a few reserve teams that are notable through their achievements in the DFB-Pokal and Amateurmeisterschaft and don't have an article yet. Eintracht Braunschweig II was one of them. Calistemon (talk) 20:49, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

DYK for Konrad Koch
[edit]On 25 July 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Konrad Koch, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that in 1874, Konrad Koch and colleague August Hermann organized what is believed to be the first football match in Germany? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Konrad Koch. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Hello, Alexpostfacto. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Heinz Mayr, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. MarkYabloko 11:52, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
