Existing gadget at mediawiki

[edit]

Note: This feature is a longstanding gadget on mediawiki.org (code at mw:MediaWiki:Gadget-vector-headanchor.js and mw:MediaWiki:Gadget-vector-headanchor.css). I'm wondering (as a non-dev) if the two might benefit from comparison/integration? Quiddity (talk) 22:37, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Major discussion about global adoption

[edit]

You'd probably be interested in the old-running mw:Requests for comment/Clickable section anchors, which was implemented, but then reverted (primarily due to problems with Google indexing the section links, but also other reasons). Massive thread discussing it at phab:T18691. Hopefully to be re-examined someday. Quiddity (talk) 22:37, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Icon used

[edit]

See details on the various icon options, at mw:Requests_for_comment/Clickable_section_anchors#Iconography.3F. I suggest considering the section sign, because we're not linking to paragraphs (which is what the pilcrow represents); but opinions vary. More facts/links/pros/cons in that list would be helpful. :-) Quiddity (talk) 22:37, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikitext

[edit]

I was kind of hoping that this script would give me section links to use in wikitext: for instance, User talk:Bility/copySectionLink#Wikitext. Then again, not sure how that would work... — Eru·tuon 09:20, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Erutuon, User:Enterprisey/copy-section-link has you covered. Enterprisey (talk!) 10:45, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
