Speedy deletion of Comedian jay dee
[edit]A tag has been placed on Comedian jay dee requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. freshacconci talktalk 18:49, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Jay Dee Article
[edit]Hey! I saw your article and I think it's worth saving. I've already cleaned it up a good deal. I'm going through right now to add citations and references. Knowing Jay Dee's real name would help me greatly. Do you know (or know where I could find) his real name? OlYellerTalktome 21:48, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
- Found his real name. OlYellerTalktome 21:54, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
- James Dewitt Yancey is the deceased rapper that also went by "Jay Dee." No one is sure what the comedian's real name is besides "Jay Dee" or JD. Not sure if that helped much.Thank you for doing a great job on cleaning the article up and making it look more presentable. Bruce Jennings (talk) 22:00, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
- Ya, I found out that it was a different person shortly after, what I thought, was discovering his name. As of right now, there's one reference to verify all the information presented on this page. Regardless of my feelings about Jay Dee's notability, we need to be able to verify independent coverage in reliable sources (links to newspaper articles, for instance) and notability. Do you know of any other news sources where he's been written about? If someone else thinks that this article doesn't prove notability, they can flag it for a deletion discussion. At this point, I don't think it would pass as we only have one source. I've looked around shortly but I can't find any. If you can provide the links, I can help get all the inline citations filled, reference placed, etc. Also, I was glad I could help and I hope we can get all the requirements knocked out. - The link about him being on Urban Tulsa Weekly's "Hot 100" list of 2009, although it is short does definitely provide a lot of notibility as that is a big public honor in Tulsa and the surrounding area. I think that should qualify. Also there is a news article on fox23 that I can dig up that writes about him but not specifically his comedy. Will that help?Bruce Jennings (talk) 15:40, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm looking for references again and I didn't catch you mentioning these two articles. I found the Fox 23 clip about the worm in the M&Ms (funny but nasty). That's definitely something notable that goes into his article. Whether or not that proves notability, I have no idea. By itself, it wouldn't prove notability per WP:ONEVENT but together with the other source, it might prove notability. I'll add it to the article and put a note in the AfD that this was found. At that point, I'll let others decide. What's with him never giving his real name? I'm surprised that that Fox would do a story about someone and only use their stage name when the story isn't about is craft. No big deal though, just sort of interesting. I also checked out the Hot 100 list you mentioned. I don't think that proves notability as it's not significant coverage and the award probably isn't significant enough to prove outright notability (see Wikipedia:CREATIVE#Any_biography). When it referes to awards given to a person proving notability, it's refering to things like Oscars, Emmies, Golden Globes, Nobel Prizes. OlYellerTalktome 19:04, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
