Monarchy of Australia

[edit]

Howdy. Recommend you seek a consensus at the talkpage of Monarchy of Australia, for what you want to add. FWIW - It's been longer since she's visited Canada :) GoodDay (talk) 02:05, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A consensus for what exactly? That has been on that article for over 2 years, and what exactly is the consensus supposed to discuss? Whether or not she has been absent for 9 years? --Caltraser5 (talk) 09:10, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why is her absents so important? I'm sure she hasn't visited Saint Lucia for examples, for many years. Nor any of the other commonwealth realms, she doesn't reside in. GoodDay (talk) 16:49, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Absence*, I'm not sure why you've mentioned Saint Lucia when we're talking about the Australian Head of State. And it is notable when the Australian Head of State has not been present in the country for more than a decade.--Caltraser5 (talk) 00:21, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

John David Ebert moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, John David Ebert, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Your edits to History of Australia

[edit]

Hello there.

Please stop making the same unproductive change to this article. Queensland is discussed last in the Section "establishment of other colonies" only because Queensland was the last Australian colony to be proclaimed. The Morton Bay penal settlement was in the Colony of New South Wales. The area now known as Queensland was part of NSW up to 1859. This has nothing to do with cities or states. There wasn't and never has been a "city of Queensland". The State of Queensland came into existence at exactly the same time as the other Australian states - 1 January 1901. Thank you. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 21:02, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Western Australia

[edit]
The Foundation of Perth 1829 by George Pitt Morison

In 1826 the governor of New South Wales, Ralph Darling, sent a military garrison to King George Sound (the basis of the later town of Albany), to deter the French from establishing a settlement in Western Australia. In 1827 the head of the expedition, Major Edmund Lockyer, formally annexed the western third of the continent as a British colony.

In 1829 the Swan River colony was established at the sites of modern Fremantle and Perth, becoming the first convict-free and privatised colony in Australia. However, much of the arable land was allocated to absentee owners and the development of the colony was hampered by poor soil, the dry climate, and a lack of capital and labour. By 1850 there were just over 5,000 settlers, half of them children. The colony accepted convicts from that year because of the acute shortage of labour.

Don't see anything in there that describes the formation of a colonial government aka the states. Even the title of the segment is Establishment of further colonies, colonies not governments. You are in the wrong here.--Caltraser5 (talk) 23:38, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be confusing colonies, States and governments. There were no states in Australia until 1 January 1901. The British established separate colonies in Australia by acts of the British parliament or by Letters Patent issued by the monarch. Each colony had its own government. In some cases they started as Crown colonies. That is, they were governed directly by a governor appointed by the monarch. The governor might appoint advisers who became part of the government. The Swan River Colony was a separate colony established by Lieutenant-Governor Stirling in 1829 on the authority of Letters Patent issued by the King. The government of the colony rested with Stirling and anyone he appointed as his advisers. its name was changed to Western Australia in 1832, but that didn't change its status as a separate colony. At the time there was no Queensland. There was no Queensland until 1859. NSW went all the way up to Cape York. The penal settlement of Moreton Bay was not a separate colony: it was a penal settlement in the colony of New South Wales. When Queensland was proclaimed in 1859 as a separate colony from NSW (by the Governor, authorised by an Act of the British parliament), it was not a state. It was a self-governing colony of Britain. Separate colonies all had governors appointed by the monarch. Queensland did not become a separate colony with its own governor until 1859. --Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 02:06, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WA did not have self government until 1890, the Swan River colony was like the Moreton Bay Penal colony. You're the one who seems to be confusing the two.--Caltraser5 (talk) 02:16, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It very clearly says Establishment of further colonies, nothing about self government.--Caltraser5 (talk) 02:17, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, Aemilius Adolphin I see what you're saying here. Unfortunately, unlike SA, WA, Tasmania, etc. Queensland was not established as a prior province independent of NSW, so in that regard it is unique among Australian states as it came into being by settler demands rather than bureaucratic design.--Caltraser5 (talk) 02:35, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not malicious nor harmful

[edit]

Hi Caltraser5, I'm relatively sure that noone is "destroying" work in that process, and there's probably not even a "mess" to clean up. At very least, noone intends to destroy the work. Please assume good faith when resolving the matter. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:58, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay fair enough, but I worked hard at building the Brisbane history section. And I didn't mind the panorama but he went and deleted a bunch of text and then piled all the images at the bottom of the section awkwardly. Thanks for the help.--Caltraser5 (talk) 02:10, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I think I'm slowly getting an overview. All right and no worries, thank you very much for building the Brisbane article to its impressive state. WP:GA may be an interesting and realistic target, but I'm not an expert regarding the Good Article process and sadly can only point to that page for information. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:29, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominated for deletion

[edit]

I have nominated the page you created Gentlest architecture for speedy deletion as it is a term you have coined and does not exist outside of Wikipedia, you can see more details and contest the deletion on the page. While it could well justify an article sometime in the future the sources do not back up the content of the article and the claim that it is a new and named architectural style, hence it fulfils the criteria of invention.
