Welcome!
[edit]Hi, and welcome to the Aviation WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to aviation.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPAVIATION Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, and project-wide collaboration.
- We have a number of child projects and task forces that focus on specific topics and aircraft types.
- We're developing a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the experienced project members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Wexcan (talk) 15:56, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Hey
[edit]Thank you for the extraordinary work you did on Malcolm Ross (balloonist), including that absolutely spectacular photo. DS (talk) 23:35, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Although - that photo, was it taken at ten thousand feet or at fifteen thousand? The picture's description says ten, your userpage says fifteen. DS (talk) 23:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
--
For some reason I initially put 15,000 feet. Then I talked with my father (Alfred Mikesell -- at 94 years he has a staggering recollection of facts about people, conversations, and events of the time), who took the picture, and he said that the picture was taken at 10,000 feet. I also initially wrote that Malcolm Ross was "relaxing." My father corrected me that Malcolm Ross was anything but relaxed. At the moment that the picture was taken Malcolm was fully engaged in studying the terrain below them for an appropriate landing spot. I'll try to correct my user page about the 15,000 feet. --Catrachos (talk) 16:30, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Condolences
[edit]I just noticed your update to the caption on the photo of Ross in the balloon, indicating your father's passing in June. I'm very sorry to learn of that.
As a corollary, I'm considering nominating that photo for Featured Image. DS (talk) 14:42, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your condolences. I feel fortunate that my father was able to participate in reviewing, correcting and adding details to the article before he passed on. I'm sure he would have been pleased to have the photo nominated for the Featured Image page. I've got his slide show for the 1958 flight posted as the default on my Web page (www.mikesell.info). I have to get the kinks worked out and the sound track added, but all the pictures, including the phto on the Wikipedia page, are posted there, I believe in their initial scanned format. I may have reduced the size of the Wikipedia copy to meet size limits or let it download more quickly. I inserted the date as part of the posted filename Image:Malcolm Ross AHM USNO*1957*0507 212.png, but must have drunk too much coffee, as I put the wrong year (1957 instead of 1958); in other respects the description is correct.Catrachos (talk) 18:48, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Article names
[edit]If you feel that an article is not optimally named, you as an editor are welcome to rename it; this is done by using the "move page" feature. Make sure to include an explanation of what you're doing. DS (talk) 19:43, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
An exciting opportunity to get involved!
[edit]As a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 23:48, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, Catrachos. I've been considering creating a Wiki Project about the Empire of Brazil. I saw your message in Slavery in Brazil and I thought that perhaps you might have some interest on joining the team. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 22:46, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 22
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Choluteca Department, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Valle and Choluteca (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

I've noticed your edits on articles related to Honduran music and thought you might be interested. Erick (talk) 03:43, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the invite Erick. I don't have comprehensive knowledge in this, except knowledge of and interest in a couple representative & significant Honduran singers, so I added missing content for these (who are related to other topics I work on, such as Honduran folklore and folk dance) rather than any concerted effort on Latin singers. Other than that I cannot be very useful. Professional writer but eclectic interests. --Catrachos (talk) 03:00, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
