North Magnetic Pole
[edit]Cinderkimberstammy, thank you for your addition to North Magnetic Pole. I do have one concern, however: sometimes when blocks of text are pasted in like this, they are copies of text that may be copyrighted. I want to make sure you are aware of Wikipedia's policy on copyrights. Ideally, any addition to an article should be in your own words. RockMagnetist (talk) 23:18, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
- Dear Sir,
- The account I have submitted is original, as shared by my 90 year-old father, Col. Frank O. Klein. His desire is to share with Wikipedia readers the contribution made by the U.S. Military in respect to the "Magnetic North Pole." I typed what he shared onto Word and then cut and pasted onto your site. I am not familiar with your editing procedure but will try to learn it if it will enhance this contribution.
- Sincerely,
- Cinderkimberstammy (talk) 23:50, 3 June 2012 (UTC) Dr. Frank O. Klein II
- (I have moved your comment here. Generally it's a good idea to answer a comment on the same page so that the flow of the conversation is preserved. Most people monitor a page after they have left a comment there. You can use {{talkback}} to alert the other user you have replied.) RockMagnetist (talk) 03:04, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- That's exciting! I have moved your contribution to a more suitable place in the article and edited it to make it more Wikipedia-like. You should be aware of a few things, however:
- Once you post something on Wikipedia, people are free to edit it any way they like (as I did). I hope you're o.k. with that.
- Wikipedia insists on reliable sources, which unfortunately do not include spoken testimony. It's good that you have those two references, and it would help if you indicate which statements they support.
- Not all of this material may be suitable for this page. For example, the text of the Legion of Merit citation would be appropriate for a biography of your father but may give him undue weight in an article on the North Magnetic Pole. Another possible place for some of the material is 46th Reconnaissance Squadron. RockMagnetist (talk) 03:12, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
