Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Iota Phi Theta, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Commentator (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:52, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Iota Phi Theta notable members.

[edit]

I see you have been working on the Iota Phi Theta article including notable members. Two things, First they need to be referenced, right now, the entire list could be deleted due to lack of references. Secondly, I suggest the templates used in other similar articles such as List of Alpha Kappa Alpha sisters. I'll be happy to help with either. I'm currently working on List of Alpha Phi Omega members.Naraht (talk) 08:32, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I assume those who have their own Wikipedia page that l cites they’re members, don’t need references? Those who need to be referenced, are there instructions on how to do so? Dascreen (talk) 14:01, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

They need to be referenced on each page that the fact that they are a brother of Iota Phi Theta is stated. It is perfectly fine to copy the reference as well. References can be to something online or to a newsletter or similar. See Help:Referencing for beginners
Also, a number of the people in the list don't have wikipedia pages. And within the groupings, they should be by last name. I'll get things started and make some tweeks. (also, for something small like that, you don't have to show what you would have edited, you can just make the edit. and indentations are done with colons at the beginning.)Naraht (talk) 14:11, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is harder than I thought. Most Brothers are referenced in reference 14. Do you mind referencing Spencer as 14 then I could at least cut and paste? I have no idea how to create the boxes either. Sorry and thank you for any assistance you can provide. Dascreen (talk) 14:48, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Let me finish the first section including Spencer and that should help.Naraht (talk) 15:30, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've got to work on something else, but I did add that ref for Spencer. Feel free to copy for notable person that is in that ref. You can have more than one ref for a brother.Naraht (talk) 15:52, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so very much! I truly appreciate it!! Dascreen (talk) 16:17, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Transformed into the new structure. To be done. Alphabetize by last name within section, reference as many as possible, starting with however many are in the old [14] now [13].Naraht (talk) 15:19, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is too difficult for me so I’ve alerted our National Grand Chapter’s Marketing & Social Media departments. They will followup with Wikipedia and adjust the Notable Members potion of our Wiki page before its deleted. Thanks again. Dascreen (talk) 00:55, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Naraht: Huge favor please? I assume Grand Council members have been editing the ΙΦΘ page and working on adding citations. In an attempt to add Paul Trussell to the Business & Technology section, I ruined the section. Do you mind fixing it for me (only 4 people). In the future, I won’t attempt to add changes until after I am taught how to do so properly. I’ll share notable members and citations with Grand Council until that time. My apologies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Darroll Dascreen (talk) 01:26, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I unintentionally screwed up a small section of the Iota Phi Theta Notable Members’ section. Mind fixing for me? Thank you! Dascreen (talk) 10:21, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notable members you’re deleted

[edit]

Most, if not all are cited on Iota Phi Theta’s official Instagram page or individual members Facebook or LinkdIn pages. Others are cited elsewhere on the internet. Some are cited on Watch The Yard articles. We are a much smaller organization than Alpha Phi Alpha and therefore do not have hundreds of published articles about our brothers. Consider our lane vs theirs. Dascreen (talk) 13:17, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anything official from Iota Phi Theta is fine. I wish they had kept the list on the website, but at least we can access the old one. I'm not familiar with where Iota Phi Theta's official instagram page is, but that would be fine as well (I'd get help in determining the proper way to write the reference, but that can be fixed by others). Back issues of the Centaur are also *very* good as references *and* they don't have to be online. A good faith addition of someone who was referenced on page 3 of the Fall 1997 Centaur (no idea if they are done by season) would be fine and it doesn't matter if they can be accessed on the web, as long as they can be accessed by *someone*, even if it takes a trip to 1600 N. Calvert St.
Watch the Yard is a little bit fuzzier, but I'm willing to work with that. I did keep the Downing twins based on the Watch the Yard article (notability is the question there, I'm not sure either way whether the show was picked up), and I want to make sure all five of the brothers at https://www.watchtheyard.com/iotas/five-famous-iota-phi-theta/ are there.
I'm quite aware that the Iotas are a smaller organization than the Alphas. Doesn't mean the article can't be of the same *quality*.
And in terms of creating lists of notable alumni, I'm probably responsible for about 90% of List of Alpha Phi Omega members, so I've been doing this (more or less) for about a decade.Naraht (talk) 16:21, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve spoken to our new International Grand Polaris. He’s committed to having the website completely overhauled. There will be a Notable Iotas section. Unfortunately a website update timeframe has not been announced. Dascreen (talk) 18:18, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

All of this is cool. Most of my work is from my work machine which can't access either, but that's my problem not yours. Frankly, I don't know what the correct form is for an instagram reference, but we'll figure it out. I don't imagine the website URL will change.
Also, one thing that I have had had problems with in regards to other BGLOs is getting a complete chapter list. Iota appears to be in better shape than most, but does https://iotaphitheta.org/iotaphitheta/chapter-locator contain all chapters that have chartered, or just those that are currently active.Naraht (talk) 03:48, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I think the current name for the school with an Iota chapter in Colombia is Technological University of Chocó, could you take a look?Naraht (talk) 03:49, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaned up...

[edit]

I've finished going through the page and cleaning up entries. I think that I've kept everyone from https://web.archive.org/web/20150213051221/http://www.iotaphitheta.org/about/notable-iota-men-2 who would be considered notable, but I may have missed some. Sections still need to be alphabetized from last name. I did wikilink Brother Lewis in the list of founders. As I indicated links from the official fraternity facebook or twitter feeds are fine as references. I'll try to keep a better eye on the page from now on.Naraht (talk) 09:06, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
