Please i beg you , help me with this table

[edit]

Greetings, Dipsacus fullonum. I hope you are well. I am working on building a table on how the island of Hispaniola ended up being transformed into two states: the Dominican Republic and Haiti with collapsible sections and images of each stage. I have also included hyperlinks to historical events proper of each stage.

I have tried to make it myself with the little knowledge of codes that I know. I am writing you in the hope that you can help me.

This is what I have done so far.

im developing this table in the spanish wikipedia.

i have seen your work in some beautiful tables with collapsible sections like this:

can you help me with this please? How is it that Wikipedia can make such beautiful and organized tables like this? please help.

take care Risantana (talk) 05:41, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Risantana, The sidebar to the right is made with the template {{Sidebar with collapsible lists}} which is not present on eswiki. The template is using Module:Sidebar which is on eswiki (es:Módulo:Sidebar). The Spanish version of the module is old, not updated since 2015 and only used by 3 templates, but I think that you can use it to make sidebars with collapsible lists, either by using the module directly or by creating a Spanish version of {{Sidebar with collapsible lists}}. You should however be aware that the present documentation pages here on enwiki will not apply to the more than 9 years old module on eswiki, so you will have to go back to old versions of the English documentation for help with parameters. The most significant changes over the 9 years is that on enwiki the style parameters are replaced with use of templatestyles (see Wikipedia:TemplateStyles). Also the implementation of collapsible elements have changed (moved from MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css to MediaWiki itself), but that will probably not directly effect your use of collapsible lists.
You can see a previous version of the US politics sidebar moved to eswiki at es:Usuario:Dipsacus fullonum/Taller Dipsacus fullonum (talk) 08:35, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, I want to thank you for sharing this information with me. This table project that I am working on is very important to me, and to my community on Wikipedia, because this table idea can help destroy all the historical misinformation that exists on Wikipedia about Dominican history.
I found a template and I decided to start working on this template in the English Wikipedia, as this is the most advanced one.
This is what I've done so far
I've tried to add color and space for the images and an outline for the table but I don't know how to do it. Any ideas? Risantana (talk) 22:57, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you want a sidebar that can be used in several articles, you should create a template for that. You can use Template:Politics of the United States or other templates using {{Sidebar with collapsible lists}} as model for the template.
Here on English Wikipedia, the standard way of adding colors and other style elements, is to make a template style sheet for the template, like Template:History of the United States sidebar/styles.css is used for Template:Politics of the United States. However that method will not work on the Spanish Wikipedia before they update several modules and other stuff.
To make a solution that also works on the Spanish Wikipedia, you would have to use the parameters listed in Template:Sidebar with collapsible lists#Deprecated parameters and Template:Sidebar#Deprecated parameters that are now considered obsolete here on English Wikipedia Dipsacus fullonum (talk) 02:13, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
