Notability of Harry McArdle
[edit]A tag has been placed on Harry McArdle, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 70.80.113.243 10:24, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Player profiles
[edit]Hi Dmattews114. I answered your question on the Help desk, but I thought I'd leave a note here to explain in a bit more detail.
Your articles on player profiles are probably being nominated for deletion because they do not establish the notability of the person they are about. What this means is that, for any article about real people, the article must follow the rules on this page: WP:BIO. You can see that one of these rules is that we can only have articles about "Competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming or tennis". I know nothing about Gaelic sports, so I don't how this applies to the players you wrote about... but there is a way around it:
I'm assuming that the 'St Fechins' you referred to is the same one as on this website here. I couldn't find a Wikipedia article on them, so my advice would be to start by creating that. Clicking here: St Fechin's G.F.C. will take you to a blank page that you can start editing (that's my best guess at an appropriate title, but feel free to improve on it!). The player profiles can then be included on this page, which is about the whole team. It is much easier to show that a team is notable than individual players, so hopefully your information will stay there this time ;)
If you have any questions or want a hand with the article I'd be happy to help - either leave a note here or on my talk page. All the best EyeSereneTALK 11:36, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Just a quick further, I'm glad that you're showing interest in improving and expanding Wikipedia, but we are not a sport database, we're an encyclopedia. So per WP:BIO, articles about players who haven't played in a top fully-professional league are usually not included - an article about the team itself can contain rosters (as many do) and highlighted exploits of the various players. Notability of St. Fechins
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on St. Fechins, by KirkEnd (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because St. Fechins seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting St. Fechins, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 20:20, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
