I don't understand how the link that I added was any different from many of the other links on that page. Why was mine removed and the others not?

Deletion listing

[edit]

Wikipedia has several different processes for handling deletion of articles - please see our deletion policy. The one I used on your articles will automatically delete them if nobody objects within five days. Obviously, you have objected, and that's totally okay. I'm going to forward these articles to the next higher level of the deletion process, which is called Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Keep an eye on the articles, and you will have an opportunity to discuss them with members of the community who may take an interest.

I hope this process doesn't intimidate you too much. We try not to bite the newcomers. Best regards. YechielMan 16:44, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bhagavad Gita

[edit]

Dear Portia, I'm not sure how I talk to you - is it on this page, or should I do what I have just done which is to go to your own page and leave a message there? If I should have done it here, please let me know Thanks DuncanCraig1949 (talk) 17:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

second message

[edit]

Dear Portia I think I may have figured our what I did wrong - I included the reference to the translation in a section which actually linked to online translations rather than to books which were translations. So I have now put the reference along with the other book references, in a similar format. I hope this is now OK. Please let me know if I have to do it differently still. Thanks, DuncanCraig1949 (talk) 18:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. FASTILYsock (TALK) 23:43, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg

[edit]

Hi DuncanCraig1949. Well, if that is the case, then there are several major issues to correct with File:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg. You note that this image is your own work, but you are using a {{Non-free use rationale}} fair use rationale template on the image description page of File:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg. If you are indeed the copyright of the image, File:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg and the image has been released under a free license, then remove the other template and copy and paste the template below and fill it out as much detail as possible.

{{Information
 |Description =
 |Source = I (~~~) created this work entirely by myself.
 |Date = ~~~~~
 |Author = ~~~
 |other_versions =
}}

Next, please select the appropriate license tag from WP:ICTIC and add it to File:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg. This should resolve compliance issues of with WP:NFC and WP:FUG. I think it should be fair to warn you that if this is not your own work, the image will be subject to speedy deltion criterion F9 and deleted as a copyvio.

Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions or are in need of assistance. -FASTILYsock (TALK) 20:29, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DuncanCraig1949. I took a look at the changes you made to File:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg and they look pretty good! Noting that the subject has already been deceased for 10 years, it would probably be better to use a {{Non-free historic image}} tag instead of a {{Non-free promotional}} tag, as this isn't really promotional material. Just on a side note, if possible, see if you can obtain a free image of Eknath Easwaran and use that instead; that would be better than using a non-free image which might be on the verge of violating Wikipedia non-free content criteria #1. But other than that, I can see no other issues with File:Eknath Easwaran courtesy of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation.jpg. Best, FASTILYsock (TALK) 20:42, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I'm happy to have been able to help. Regards, FASTILYsock (TALK) 23:06, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:EE Berkeley 1968.JPG

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:EE Berkeley 1968.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. --Verbal chat 20:14, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I loaded a file File:EE Berkeley 1968.JPG onto wikipedia, marking it not-free and noting it was copyright but that I had received permission to put it up on wikipedia. nevertheless Verbal (above) marked it as possibly UNFREE and deleted it from my article (or it got screened out because tagged?). I see from the Possibly Unfree listing that you have added a note that unless there is another reason the listing will be deleted and the image kept. Do I need to do anything now to keep my image? Will the image be automatically restored in my article? (Sorry for these q's - am a relatively novice wikipedia user). thanks! DuncanCraig1949 (talk) 10:41, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It seems Verbal screwed up. WP:PUI is for files that the uploader claims are free but someone doubts it. Your file is clearly claimed as non-free, so PUI isn't the place for it. Most likely an admin will come along and close the discussion for that reason; Verbal may or may not take it to WP:FFD if that was his original intention. Anomie 12:41, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:EE Berkeley 1968.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
