A tag has been placed on Adam Lieber, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Hey mate, chill out. Please stop targeting one or more user's pages or talk pages for abuse or insults, unwarranted doctoring or blanking. It can be seen as vandalism and may get you blocked from editing Wikipedia.
Furthermore: Please try and keep a cool head, despite comments people may make against you. Personal attacks and disruptive comments will only escalate a situation; please keep calm and action can be taken against the other parties if necessary. Your involvement in attacking back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors, and lead to general bad feeling. Please try and be civil. Thanks! (CJ) dewet| 13:18, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Great Welcome, thanks for blocking me!

Regarding User:Dewet: Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content. It is considered vandalism. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Precisely DeWet

[edit]

Could you please not delete the Alternative South Africa page, even though its content may contain queer or feminist references that you disagree with! Regardless of policy, I will retaliate if you insist on policing content that fails to live up to the standards of "white South Africa". Passive-aggressive behaviour such as exhibited by some of my compatriots, lead to campuses being invaded by baton-wielding cops during the 80s, in the mistaken assumption that our thoughts and ideas could be changed by force! As for Wikipedias Neutrality and Biase? When Nestle makes reperations for apartheid war crimes, then we can all talk about biase. Neutrality on a national page? Forget it!

South African Blocks

[edit]

Okay, I get it, there's some weirdo called Crowbaaa, and I am not he!!

"Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Crowbaaa". The reason given for Crowbaaa's block is: "constant disruption of WP:AN / WP:ANI, trolling"."

Would somebody please rectify the situation so that I don't lose it everytime something interesting happens. Ethnopunk 11:29, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a current problem of SAIX proxies being blocked. As you have found, you can only edit your own talk page. In light of that, and the questionable validity of Alternative South Africa, I strongly suggest you develop the page as Dewet suggests - as a sub-page of your own. Why don't you develop existing pages, like Culture of South Africa instead (it seems to be what you are striving for ?) Alternative South Africa is heading for another going-going-gone unless it radically improves. Wizzy 11:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wizzy, could you shut the fuck up, unless you have something constructive to say. No, doubt, that article will arrive, in its final form as g-d intended, and you are free to attack it then, but as far as the validity of the topic is concerned, suck my *453

I have moved the article to User:Ethnopunk/Alternative South Africa, so you don't lose your work. Wizzy 11:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A friendly warning

[edit]

Please do not make personal attacks on other people. Wikipedia has a policy against personal attacks. In some cases, users who engage in personal attacks may be blocked from editing by admins or banned by the arbitration committee. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. Please resolve disputes appropriately. Thank you.

You have been treated with respect and given friendly tips, something which you have not reciprocated with. Don't think that you can do what you want; Wikipedia operates within a set framework of rules -- if you choose to ignore them, you will be blocked and won't be able to contribute any more. dewet| 12:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A friendly, sort of response

[edit]

Who elected dewetto police the discussion on South Africa? I take exception to the rudeness of his tone and his assumption that he represents South Africa. Also, I don't think deleting the Alternative South Africa article sets a good precedent. As for getting personal, I'm not about to make friends with an engineer who refuses to acknowledge the vast contribution of people like Koos Kombuis, Benoldus Niemand and Valient Swart to popular culture. If it weren't for the "alternative" label, nothing would have changed in the country.

Spurred on by such invective, Ive decided to go ahead and create a genuine "Alternative South Africa" whose starting point will be everything that the so-called South Africa domain policed by certain "individuals", is not. You may join the discussion on counterculture, but I'm not going to buy into Mr South Africa's prognosis about either the media, or wikipedia policy. Ethnopunk 15:17, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the article, both times. User:Dewet is a respected contributor to both the English and Afrikaans wikipedias. I expect that, in time, you will also be. If you are proposing a POV fork, it will not survive. Please read the links Dewet pointed to. Koos Kombuis, Benoldus Niemand and Valient Swart, and their contribution to Culture of South Africa, sounds like an excellent project, and I support you in doing so (as does Dewet). You will encounter least resistance if these articles spring into being as at least a paragraph, conforming to style, spelled correctly, and wiki-linked to other relevant articles. Have at it. Wizzy 15:43, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Or what, you'll erase my name from the annals of history and shambock students in the library like what happened while I was at UCT? While I appreciate your effort, I really don't like being dominated by a couple of engineers from the computer dept. Do I really have to argue for the inclusion of popular culture and media studies as something more than an offshoot of boerestaat? BTW, its a long haul project and not something that's bound to spring up overnight.

Ethnopunk 15:52, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Goodness, you aren't one for easily making friends, are you? You have come with preconceived notions and stereotypes (engineers and boere, nogal!), and attacked without provocation. Somewhere you've gotten the idea that I am "policing" South African topics to reflect some fantasy version of history, which couldn't be further from the truth! I challenge you to look through my contributions, and show me one instance of that! As you can see, the articles on Koos Kombuis, Bernoldus Niemand and Valiant Swart are waiting to be written; not because of censorship, but because of simple lack of hands. Click on the red links and do it! However, your confrontational style will hamper all your contributions to this serious, honest project. Take this as advice, or leave it. dewet| 16:01, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's a pity really, because those notions keep getting varified by passive-agressive behaviour learnt while playing Quake or Doom. Its not the interface I don't trust, its the way software engineers take over the encyclopeadia, while insisting that pictures of bare breasted women prancing around naked on the savannahs isn't racial or masculine bias. I'm off to an alternative event in Observatory to talk about corporate bias in the news. Later. Ethnopunk 16:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent straw man! ;) Seriously, though, you're making less and less sense; I'll just leave it be, this is too adolescent. dewet| 16:38, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And what does the wikipedia say about tilting at windmills? Methinks this is all about ego! Ethnopunk 10:01, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please remain polite. Dewet has been very patient with you. Wizzy 10:36, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A good start might be af:Koos Kombuis, af:Bernoldus Niemand and af:Valiant Swart - articles that already exist in the Afrikans wikipedia. Wizzy 16:14, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's the thing, I'm not trying to reproduce work already done, rather to create another entry point, along the lines of Library of Congress reference headers!!Ethnopunk 16:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

It was a speedy delete and was fully justified if I remember it correctly. Admins do not need to speak with authors in such situations. The text in Angolan War was copied directly from the URL cited. Also, please check out Wikipedia:No personal attacks, Wikipedia:Civility, and Wikipedia:Copyrights when you get a chance. Thanks. SchuminWeb (Talk) 21:41, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy: There is no excuse for personal attacks on other contributors. Do not make them. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that you may be blocked for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thanks. -- Strothra 17:41, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apoligies for the Ad Hominem attack, but the text was not copied directly from that site. It was saved and then edited online. The result was substantially different and in no way a copyright infringement. Schuminweb is behaving like a boy scout who knows he is in the wrong, the copy should have been moved to the discussion page before being deleted.

Should I report him as a "Vietnam War" denier? Is he saying there was no opposition to the Vietnam War? Same thing isn't it

Be careful

[edit]

Hi, maybe by now you know that I have some of the same interests as you and contribute to some of the same discussions. Maybe we're from similar backgrounds too, but Wikipedia hides that, and lets you build up a reputation based entirely on your contributions. I've followed yours with interest, and noticed you getting into a lot of arguments. Most recently, I saw your comment "Just so you know, I clapped and cheered when the WTC came down" on Talk:Angolan War. This is a friendly but very serious warning not to say stuff like that, ever. If it needs any explanation, consider the feeling in your stomach if someone said they cheered when the Sharpeville massacre happened, or when they heard how many Africans are dying of Aids.

So where to from here? You could go a lot further sharing knowledge about topics that you know and care about, but only if you act a lot more carefully to avoid the fights you've been getting into. Sorry this is a real sermon, but someone needs to say it to you nicely. Otherwise you'll either burn out and leave in disgust, or be pushed out by the community. I'd rather you stayed. How you react to this warning is a test of your character. I don't think you're going to find many people going to this length to include you. Zaian 21:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Zaian, but the situation is really like somebody laughing off the Angolan War or forgetting about Sharpville and saying my experience (along with hundreds of other South African's) is irrelevent, because they know-it-all. The debate has been dumbed down to the point of stupidity merely because the American media left out the CIA's role in the war and now some bright spark sees fit to question my bone fides. As for my comment on the WTC, its not something I say lightly, I would rather launch a critique of the information age, the lack of contemporaneity in cyberspace and the disadvantages still faced by those living in the third world but that would take all day. Wikipedia is not a bureacracy

[edit]

In particular, Wikipedia is not a system of law. Disagreements should be resolved through consensual discussion, rather than through tightly sticking to rules and procedures. Instruction creep should be avoided. A perceived procedural error made in posting anything, such as an idea or nomination, is not grounds for invalidating that post. Follow the spirit, not the letter, of any rules, policies and guidelines (see Wikipedia:Wikilawyering). Our dispute resolution process exists to mediate and arbitrate disputes between users, not to enforce judicial remedies. From What Wikipedia is not. Ethnopunk 13:02, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You are welcome to put your side of the story at Wikipedia talk:Community Justice/Meeting 1#In Favour of Expulsion. Computerjoe's talk 17:55, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The reason that some users have more rights than others is because they are given them, following a RfA, RfB, been given developer or stewart status or been elected to WP:ARBCOM. Computerjoe's talk 14:45, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I am just letting you know that you have been reinstated as a member of WP:CJ. The outcome of the meeting was that you will be placed on CJ probation (basically one user will just ensure you are being civil for a while, and ensure that you can not been seen as incivil to others). I have been nominated to take such a role, and have accepted. There is no need to worry, I will let you know of anything which maybe viewed as incivil. Good luck, and once more welcome to Community Justice! Ian13/talk 17:54, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Community Justice Newsletter

Community Justice Newsletter

Welcome
Previously, various notices regarding Community Justice have gone out to our members; though this is the first actual newsletter. This issue will contain information regarding decisions made on the first meeting, our new council, and more...!

If you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Community Justice/Do Not Spam.

New Council
Following our first elections, a new council has been elected.Computerjoe and Ian13 remain as chairman and chief executive (respectively); while Eddieh, Wiki alf and Xchrisblackx are replaced as councillors by Ilyanep, Osbus and Covington. The Giant Puffin and Pureblade remain as councillors.
Member Conduct
In the last meeting, the conduct of 4 members was discussed. Ethnopunk will be put on probation, supervised by Ian13, if he/she is incivil during this probation, he/she will be expelled from WP:CJ; the same was decided for Misza13 (voluntarily), and his probation will be supervised by Computerjoe. No action will be taken against Computerjoe.
Barnstar
The Civility Barnstar which our members have designed has been sent to Barnstar and award proposals. We'd appreciate your feedback!

Also, we are planning to make a Community Justice barnstar to give to hard-working CJ members. If you're a budding designer, consider trying to make it, then post your proposal to WT:CJ!

Name and logo change
There has been no consensus reached regarding changing our name and/or logo neither at WT:CJ nor at WT:CJ/M/1. While suggestions are still welcome, no action will be taken at this time.
Programs
We are going to try to create programs to more actively involve our members. If you have any ideas, please drop a line at WT:CJ. We will try to work with WP:ESP on one of these programs, at some point in the future.
Thanks!
Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at WT:CJ or come into our IRC channel [1].

Computerjoe wishes to extend his thanks to User:Robchurch, a non-member who assisted in making {{tracker}} redundant, as well as Misza13 for his continued support and to the whole of this and the previous council.

Excuse me, but did you really create the logo of Gallery Mau Mau? (If not, then you are in no position to release it under the GFDL license; however, you may want to change the tag to {{logo}} - fair use of a logo in the article about the organization.) Thank you. Concordia Newsletter

[edit]

NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

Help out now!

[edit]
  • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
  • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
  • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
  • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
  • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

Decision Making

[edit]

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:JN9488-OCTOBER 1989 COVER.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:JN9488-OCTOBER 1989 COVER.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Damn New Thang

[edit]

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Damn New Thang, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but yours may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Coredesat 05:34, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have asked at Deletion review for this to be undelted. Technically, as a contested prod, it should be. But the article as it was before it was deleted showed not a hint of notability, so if this is undeleted, it is pretty much certian to be sent to WP:AfD at once, and unless there are significant sources and information toa dd to the article, IMO it is highly likely to be deleted at an AfD. Do you have significant additional information that you would add to the article if it were to be undeleted? if not, perhaps you would consider withdrawing your request, and save everybody soem fairly pointless hoop-jumping? DES (talk) 18:42, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is notable from a point of the fact that DNT was an underground zine published during the transition to Democracy, in South Africa. It's one of the few publications from that period and represents a remarkable achievment in the face of repression. I don't think it's up to an Australian to decide what is pertinant to South African's. I am willing to edit the article to conform to wiki guidlines.Ethnopunk 12:04, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Cape Times 1987.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cape Times 1987.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Purpcover.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Purpcover.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as South African dance music, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://deity.digitalzones.com/dance/dance.html, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

It is also important that the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and that it follows Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at Talk:South African dance music/Temp. Leave a note at Talk:South African dance music saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Stifle (talk) 18:27, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's eager chipmonks like you who made me leave wikipedia. I really don't have time to debate issues like who own's copyright over my own work and whether or not I can put material that I own on wikipedia. This discussion, if you had bothered to follow the thread on the discussion page occurred about two years ago. Now you raise it, and since you're so keen to takeover the known universe with your moral prudery, have enough admin privileges to destroy probably every contribution I have ever made to wikipedia. I notice you are not a South African and probably haven't a clue about the topic you deleted. It's supposed to be an article on the history of SA dance music, but thanks to you, its been erased. Happing trails, squirrel. Ethnopunk (talk) 11:10, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that you're referring to South African dance music. This was not deleted because of copyright problems, but rather because a community consensus decided it should be deleted. And I did not delete it — Wizardman did.
Please be civil and refrain from making personal attacks. Stifle (talk) 11:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Undeletion request

[edit]

Thanks for your message. Feel free to write a decent article, with sources, about Fraser Clark; the fact that an article under that name was speedily deleted is no obstacle to that. However, as the previous page contains nothing of any use for a decent article, there's no point in undeleting it. Regards, BencherliteTalk 21:49, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:4thworld.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:4thworld.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:15, 23 December 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 04:15, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Earthlife Africa brouchure.jpeg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Earthlife Africa brouchure.jpeg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. File permission problem with File:Yemi.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Yemi.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 13:56, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Dolphin Action and Protection Group requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. andy (talk) 16:28, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

May 2010

[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Dolphin Action and Protection Group. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. andy (talk) 16:40, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Translation of Die Suid-Afrikaan's story on the Purple Rain Protest

[edit]

It seems to have taken quite a while for anyone to get back to you on your request for a translation, but I've translated the extract you posted here as follows:
"By ten o'clock Greenmarket Square was already thronged with people. Everywhere in the streets there were police; at that stage, at least I thought, definitely in greater numbers than bona fide demonstrators... There was a sort of festive atmosphere amongst the people gathered; it wasn't a bad day, cloudy yes, but without rain and not terribly cold either. Myself and a few friends first drank some coffee, then later walked to the Methodist church in Burg street. Everywhere people were greeting one another, calling out names and recognising acquaintances. The Methodist church was full to the brim. On the pulpit there was a protest leader who was busy explaining what the day's procedure would be. A lot of emphasis was placed on orderliness, calmness and discipline. It was only half-past ten, but already the protest was delayed. We were still waiting for the group who would be arriving from the Bo Kaap; we didn't yet know that they had already been taken into police custody.

I went outside again, where the atmosphere in Burg street felt like that of a carnival on a Saturday morning. Around Newspaper House stood first-aid people and medical students from the nearby Shawco union, busy chatting and joking amongst themselves; everywhere one could see people with cameras. The police closely supervised [the protest] from the sidelines. Later I would realise that Burg street was like a display cabinet when compared to Waal street. I'd have easily been able to just stay there, surrounded by the overall geniality, and participated in the chatting and joking - at the safe distance from which the press was observing and reporting - but a colleague pulled me closer. "Come, the protest at the cathedral has begun".

I went after her at jogging pace, around the bend, and saw from Burg street's corner that the protest at Waal street had so-to-say ground to a halt. We squeezed through a multi-racial row of neatly blue-attired SAP [South African Police] men and women: a non-racist and non-sexist façade presented [by the government] for the onlookers and the rest of the world... although representatives of the media were hidden; in high buildings, behind curtains, and in-between the "normal" shoppers at Greenmarket Square; due to the media being forbidden from covering political unrest. According to reports from Burg street, teargas and a water cannon with purple dye were used to "break up the illegal gathering". Just around the corner in Waal street where a second march from St George's Cathedral took place, it was a different story."

Stellenbosch to bid for Wikimania 2012!

Hi Ethnopunk!

The nascent South African Wikimedia chapter has decided to bid to host Wikimania in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2012. This would be the first Wikimania in South Africa, and would be a great advertisement for our country. Please take a look at meta:Wikimania_2012/Bids/Stellenbosch. If you can add to the discussion, please do. If you feel that you are able to do anything to help, please join the Wikimedia South Africa mailing list and let us know. Even simple messages of support are valued!

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:17, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Each One, Teach One has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not nearly enough in-depth coverage to pass WP:GNG. Would redirect to the New Unity Movement, but that page doesn't exist.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. ARBPIA alert

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
In particular, please note that the Arab-Israeli conflict rulings include restrictions on editors without 30 days tenure and 500 edits.

All articles related to the Arab-Israeli conflict are subject to a 1RR restriction. That means you cannot revert more than once in a 24 hour period. You have now reverted at Amin al-Husseini twice in slightly more than an hour, which is a clear violation. As a courtesy I will allow you a short time to self-revert before reporting you. Zerotalk 10:42, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You have now reverted a total of 4 times at Amin al-Husseini. This is edit warring even if outside the 24 hour restriction, any further such will produce a report at Arbitration Enforcement. Thank you for your attention. Selfstudier (talk) 21:26, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The following addition to the page on Amin al-Husseini is being censored. I draw your attention to the reference material upon which the addition is based. Could you perhaps indicate how this matter should receive arbitration? : In 2017, several previously unknown photographs came to light, in which al-Husseini, can be clearly seen inspecting a Nazi concentration camp along with Nazi senior officials and government figures. The photographs also show the Trebbin camp near Berlin, which was, from 1942 to 1945, 'an SS artillery training place with a branch of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Oranienburg'. The photographs have forced scholars into a reappraisal of al-Husseini's obviously active role in the event.[1] Ethnopunk (talk) 14:02, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Having failed to edit war material into the article, it is now clear that you are WP:BLUDGEONING the talk page discussion. Kindly desist. Selfstudier (talk) 15:54, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And you are persisting in your racist, bigoted, anti-Semitic anti-intellectual endeavour to quash recent photographic discoveries and legitimate academic research, including published citations, regarding Husseini's tour of Trebbin Concentration Camp. What is your agenda, to sugar-coat al-Husseini? To falsely accuse someone of bludgeoning is considered WP:Civility#Incivility and should be avoided. If you want me to step back from the discussion I will step back, but please stop denying the Evidence exists. Ethnopunk (talk) 08:22, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Zerotalk 10:24, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have requested a review of the block due to the obvious Holocaust Denial. Ethnopunk (talk) 16:35, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Holocaust Denial]] by the person who keeps reverting edits of a page on Palestinian leader Amin al-Husseini in order to alter the historical record in which al-Husseini is photographed inspecting Trebbin Concentration Camp. I am an editor in good standing for over a decade. Since there is no attempt to engage with the citations and suggested edit other than to bludgeon me with an opinion which amounts to open hostility to Jewish Secular Identity i.e Antisemitism, I can only state, that the person in question should be considered a WikiBigot whose talk page indicates that he has an axe to grind on the subject. His use of the block in this manner is an abuse of the system. I therefore refer you to the Wikipedia:No_Nazis policy. I have reduced my contributions via the Talk Page to an article on medialternatives.com. You may review my article here Ethnopunk (talk) 16:28, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock requests containing personal attacks are not considered. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 19:47, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

FYI, doubling down on your personal attacks is likely to get you upgraded to an indefinite block. Also WP:NONAZIS isn't a policy, it's just an essay. — Czello 17:00, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ethnopunk, did you just say that I blocked you because my talk page shows that I have an axe to grind and that I am a bigot? I want to make clear that is what you are saying here. --Jayron32 17:36, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jayron32: I believe that either myself or Selfstudier, or both, are the targets of this vitriol rather than you. You, apparently, are just our tool. His failure to recognise the severity of the charge, instead doubling down on the insults, indicates to me that he will recommence the same behavior when the block ends. Zerotalk 00:53, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're now manufacturing a blame-war in which I am being blocked and now threatened with an indefinite block for being a little upset about the total lack of objective review regarding my proposal for inclusion of factually-correct, academic cited, and evidence-based opinion, regarding al-Hussieni. I can only surmise this is due to the bigotry, anti-Semitism, pro-Nazi sympathies of those who are insisting on censoring this information. Now you're saying WP:NONAZIS isn't a policy? Because it should be. Is Wikimedia welcoming of Nazis? Ethnopunk (talk) 10:23, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Jayron32: Talk page access? Length of block? I'll take it back to ANI if you prefer. Zerotalk 11:15, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(Personal attack removed) That was a very poor idea. Black Kite (talk) 14:34, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Dntcover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Dntcover.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 15:14, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Cape Town Ecology Group (postcard).jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. —Matr1x-101 (Ping me when replying) {user page (@ commons) - talk} 15:10, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
