Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Fmcevoy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was SoundHound, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hi Grayfell -- apologies, I'm an absolute rookie. I redrafted the first part of the SoundHound page in my userspace/sandbox, with the idea of inviting others to give me feedback on where I'm going wrong. Nevertheless, it was rejected as a duplicate of the SoundHound page (obviously my intention was to copy it over to the SoundHound page if I had sufficient agreement that it was suitable to stay).
As you note, I do work for SoundHound. This isn't a central part of my role, but our Wikipedia is so lamentably out of date that it simply doesn't represent what the business does -- which is problematic as we're a public company.
Happy to take any advice on this one.
Thanks. Fmcevoy (talk) 00:32, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please demonstrate good faith by clearly disclosing your conflict of interest on your user page (User:Fmcevoy). Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure explains this in detail.
Since you have a conflict of interest, and are compensated for editing, you must comply with Wikipedia's policies on this, as listed above. Do not edit the article directly except to fix extremely minor typos or revert obvious vandalism, or in other extreme cases. Being out-of-date is not such a case. Propose changes on the article's talk (talk:SoundHound) page via Template:Edit COI. Start a new section at the bottom of that talk page briefly explaining your proposed changes, and be patient. Please also be succinct. Wikipedia is a volunteer project, and we are not paid to read what you are paid to write.
While your recent edits were a slight improvement, they were still far too promotional. See WP:TONE for starters, but again, please do not edit the article yourself. Propose changes on the talk page. Grayfell (talk) 00:51, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. This feels hugely overly complicated to me. I guess we just leave the wrong/outmoded information. In striving for accuracy and transparency is seemed like the first is the secondary interest. I'll remember this in using the platform in the future. 2603:8001:9502:52B4:BC15:460C:4F67:D156 (talk) 16:24, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Propose changes on the article's talk page. On the talk page, also include links to reliable sources supporting those changes. I don't think it's that complicated, but if you want to know why it's the way it is, the article Conflict-of-interest editing on Wikipedia documents just a small number of the many, many problems that have been caused by promotional editing. Have added proposed changes to Talk page. Fmcevoy (talk) 16:21, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
