I read the article you submitted on Marcel Gagne, and see that you have just copied it from [this website. That's not how thing should be done. First of all, most websites have copyrighted making the content owned by the site and/or the people who wrote the article. Second, the text isn't really written as an encyclopedia article at all. Things like

If you would like to read some of his work,, you can click on the links in the "Writings" menu.

and

What else? Oh yeah, ...

and so on, aren't encyclopedic in style or content at all. Maybe you can rewrite it to be more in compliment with Wikipedia:Manual of Style and also avoid Wikipedia getting in legal trouble for using copyrighted information without permission? Thanks! Shanes 23:54, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

iMic

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as iMic, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. For more information about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, take a look at our Five Pillars. Happy editing! If you're aware of any other pages that you created by copying from other websites, then please help us out and either list them for speedy deletion or mark them as copyright problems. Thanks, Bovlb 01:49:06, 2005-09-02 (UTC)

Hi again. I'm afraid that I have listed another eight pages you created as potential copyright violations. See Wikipedia:Copyright problems#September 2 for details. I know this must be a discouraging experience for you, but I wonder if you could help us to sort thinga out. Is there anything else you have contributed from other websites without appropriate copyright permission?

Also, I see that you have uploaded a number of images, especially in the last day, but none of them have any copyright information on them. Could you please take a few moments to go through and tag them all appropriately on the image description page so we know we are allowed to use them?

Finally, do you have any suggestions on how Wikipedia's copyright policies could be made more obvious to contributors? I have a couple of ideas on the go (see Wikipedia talk:Copyright FAQ#Proposed improvement and Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Proposal) for improving things; I'd welcome your comments.

Cheers, Bovlb 07:51:03, 2005-09-02 (UTC)

Images

Hi. I had quick look through some of your most recent uploads.

I hope this points you in the right direction. Let me know if you'd like me to review further back. Bovlb 14:22:50, 2005-09-06 (UTC)

Everything is fixed. I am just tagging those images now. --Gary King 15:33, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
I took another quick look. You tagged Image:MarjoleinNov2004.gif as public domain and gave a source. Maybe I'm not looking at the right part of the page, but I can't see what you're using as the basis for the PD claim. Could you please be a little clearer about why you believe this picture is in the public domain? Thanks, Bovlb 19:22:38, 2005-09-06 (UTC)
Okay, done. Let me know if there is anything else.--Gary King 20:57, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

Java

GaryKing, have you consulted someone before moving Java to Java (disambiguation) and #redirecting Java to Java programming language? I don't thing you argument that Java programming language is, by far, the most popular use for this term is necessarily valid nor sufficient to justify such a move.

The Java programming language was named after the Java_coffee, name as such for being original from the Java Island. And even in the context of computers Java more commonly reffers to the Java_platform, not the programming language alone.

As examples, see Nirvana or Nike. The articles refer to the original terms, not the most popular ones.

I believe we need to delete Java before moving Java (disambiguation) back there.

  • I also have the same question as Abu regarding consultation before the move. While I can perhaps agree with redirecting to Java (disambiguation), I do not agree with redirecting to Java programming language (even though I use it). The current redirect also makes it much more difficult to properly disambiguate "Java". In my history of disambiguating Java, I would tend to agree that the reference is more for the language but the island is also commonly referred to as well. RedWolf 19:26, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

Unsourced images

You have many images listed as being un-sourced. See User:Pearle/by-author-Category:Images_with_unknown_source.txt for a nice, wikified list of them. (Search for your name). If you do not add a source, they will probably all be deleted really soon(as in, people are deleting images in this category - RIGHT NOW). JesseW, the juggling janitor 09:20, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

Commit Charge

Hej, Gary. Could you give a brief and general outline of what needs to be improved at the Commit Charge article in its respective Talk page? It will help others to be able to pinpoint where it might be best to improve the article. Thanks!
