I'm Back

[edit]

I'm back after a long break. I'm really sorry if anyone needed me or if I missed anything important -- I'll be online more these days. GABHello! 20:54, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about that; when real life calls (or if one just needs a break), one must answer. With that said, good to have you back. Kierzek (talk) 21:23, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I'm very glad to hear that. GABHello! 21:24, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

January 2016

Information icon Please do not attack other editors, as you did at User talk:Stylized as "stylized" currently; formerly "stylizeD". Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.

How did I supposedly "attack" ed (according to you) just by saying that he's obviously not paying enough attention to -- what you said -- the CONTENT? Stylized as "stylized" currently; formerly "stylizeD" (talk) 16:59, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"And nice job recruiting another one of your little "friends" to go change that back for you so that you can appear to not be edit-warring, and so that you can make it look like you've got another "consensus" (but unwritten), huh, ed? I bet, though, that if I asked one of my friends to come and change that back for me, you'd accuse me of "sock-/meatpuppeting," wouldn't you, ed?" is casting WP:ASPERSIONS. GABHello! 16:58, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No it's not. I said "I BET," not a definite statement, which is what an actual accusation would be. But you obviously didn't approve of it anyway, so then what would be a supposedly "better" way to express my concern above, according to you? Besides that, why are you keeping track of another user's talk page even when we haven't had the least bit of interaction already? Can't he defend himself? Stylized as "stylized" currently; formerly "stylizeD" (talk) 17:01, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am not involved in this dispute, but I would recommend not accusing an admin -- who "is considering whether to block you as a disruption-only account" and says "The next time you make a change at eBay that isn't supported by a prior talk page consensus you may be blocked" -- that they are meatpuppeting ("recruiting another one of your little "friends"). I came across this via recent changes. GABHello! 17:05, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you're so "not involved" as you claim, then how about you 1. actually pay attention to what I was saying, that I was not "accusing" ed (as demonstrated by the word "BET," which is not a "you-are" word), and 2. actually answer my questions on a. what you figure a "better way" to express my concern would be is, and b. why you're keeping track of his account for him then? Stylized as "stylized" currently; formerly "stylizeD" (talk) 17:09, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to remove my warning from your page, since this clearly was not a wise move on my part. GABHello! 17:12, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I already beat you to it. (See my summary there.) I also noticed a place on ed's page where I needed to add the word "possibly" in order to remove one phrasing that was accusatory instead of just a guess, that I missed before. But what do you have against actually answering my questions? Stylized as "stylized" currently; formerly "stylizeD" (talk) 17:22, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

50 Cent Party

[edit]

Thanks for your help on the Censorship in China page, it was really getting out of hand. If you are going to initiate a sock investigation let me know, I would be more than happy to help. This hosiery crew has also been spending time on my talk page. Hilarious stuff, just classic 50 Cent Party tactics really... Hammersbach (talk) 02:54, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am compiling the evidence right now under the first new editor to edit the page (MS). By all means, please help by contributing evidence once the page has been created (will take a while, though) and might want to ping OhConfucius. Thanks, GABHello! 02:57, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Sherlock Holmes Deductive Reasoning Award
For your efforts in spending the time and straightening up that mess created by the 50 Cent Party vandals on the Censorship in China page. Well done! Hammersbach (talk) 16:06, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hammersbach: Thanks for the kind words and dealing with this in the first place. If those guys were really 50 cent, I sincerely doubt they'd be so blatant about it. If they were the real deal, then they were pretty bad at it. Still, the geolocation is very interesting. the ties to Leugen as master was what surprised me most. Also, can I steal the wonderful angle quotebox? Thanks again, GABHello! 16:11, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Steal away! Hammersbach (talk) 16:21, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I am creating a new quotes section in userspace and wanted to use that one. GABHello! 16:22, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, I just looked over Loogie's stuff and I think you are right about him not being a 50 cent guy. Moppen is Dutch for jokes, Staggen has something to do with cows that are in heat... Hammersbach (talk) 16:55, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hammersbach: The editor may have known Chinese, but I really can't see the connection, although Bbb23 said there were behavioral similarities. GABHello! 17:05, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Double

[edit]

Hello GAB, this [1] really is you, right? Because that userpage says [2] "Please see GeneralizationsAreBad's talk page for relevant discussion." But since I cannot find anything here I thought I might as well ask :-) Cheers, Horseless Headman (talk) 19:31, 7 February 2016 (UTC).[reply]

Horseless Headman Yes, sorry about that, I wanted to do this so certain sock masters would have a harder time. My userbox on my page also had a notice. Sorry. GABHello! 20:54, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have left another message on the other account's talk page. GABHello! 21:23, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why have I got a warning for attacking someone? Cls14 (talk) 23:26, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Cls14: Because the other guy forged it. I actually warned him for vandalizing your page. GABHello! 23:27, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GeneralizationsAreBad: Ah right. Man, he's doing my head in right now, haha! Thanks for letting me know, I was feeling all paranoid! Cls14 (talk) 23:29, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Cls14: Might want to include it in ANEW. GABHello! 23:31, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@GeneralizationsAreBad: Can you "remind" me what ANEW is? Lol. Cls14 (talk) 23:33, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Cls14: it's WP:ANEW, the administrator board to report edit warring, where you have been reported by the other person (who evidently didn't heed the clear instructions asking them to inform you about filing this report against you). You did seemingly breach WP:3RR, so I very strongly advise you to refrain from any further reverts for now, but I trust that any reasonable administrator will see there's something fishy with that report. LjL (talk) 00:07, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@LjL: I'm bored of it anyway. Only so often you can try and make a person follow the rules. Useful to know the 3RR though so I don't fall foul of it again. Sometimes it's best to step back and get back to proper editing :-) Cls14 (talk) 00:13, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, @Cls14: that's a great reason for 3RR to exist in the first place. Usually, problems aren't solved at all by just reverting back and forth a large number of times, whether or not you're right: in fact, I've found you're only likely to end up with even more trolls backing up the original troll, especially if you're right. There are better ways to protect articles (not saying they always work). LjL (talk) 00:25, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A cup of coffee for you!

Your GA nomination of No Gun Ri Massacre

[edit]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article No Gun Ri Massacre you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Concertmusic -- Concertmusic (talk) 01:21, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yippee-ki-yay! GABHello! 01:21, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great - thank you! I look forward to reading the sources and other material, but I have already learned a lot about this event! Great job to you, Mr. Hanley et al. --Concertmusic (talk) 01:33, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Cjhanley: may prove to be better-acquainted with much of this, since I only nominated the article. GABHello! 01:37, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Concertmusic:, @GeneralizationsAreBad:, I’m in a bad position at the moment, and a little rusty on WP, but over the weekend I hope to review Concertmusic’s suggestions and perhaps help out. A quick glance tells me the copy-editing points are excellent. Thanks very much for your diligence, and thanks again to GAB for nominating the article. Charles J. Your GA nomination of No Gun Ri Massacre

[edit]

FYI though the info may be out of date

[edit]

Hello GAB. You asked a question here Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Soft skin/Archive#23 February 2016 that, I think, got lost or missed when that thread was archived. When I started editing last decade (where does the time go) I remember seeing the occasional thread on AN or AN/I where the phone company of a problem editor was contacted - and I think that there was some success with this. I haven't seen one in ages so I don't know if that is no longer done or not allowed etc etc. You might want to ask at AN or somewhere else if you are interested in pursuing the idea. On a lighter note - while I am probably not the first or the hundred and first to mention this - and since I live in Colorado and even went to the same Elementary, Jr High and High School that Trey Parker did (though I was there at least fifteen years before him) - whenever I reader your use name I say "M'kay" in my head. Thanks for all you do here on WikiP and cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 00:06, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MarnetteD: Ehh, that was only my thought after hearing about how something similar was done in the case of Grawp. It was said more out of frustration than out of real seriousness. I will bring it up tomorrow, or something. Thanks for your good work, as well! And for dropping me a line -- it gets lonely at my talk page, especially when it's semi-protected (to keep the socks out). GABHello! 00:11, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You are most welcome. MarnetteD|Talk 00:18, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This is excellent!! Surely they would be happier editing at Conservepedia. I hope that you have an enjoyable weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 02:20, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated you for adminship! :) Jonas Vinther • (Click here to collect your prize!) 23:38, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I must ask, did you guys talk about this ahead of time. There's a certain procedure that needs to be followed. Kierzek (talk) 00:02, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Kierzek: Yes, I was emailed previously about this, and was told that Diannaa was also in support. I accepted the offer. GABHello! 00:04, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it was "done right", but I am no expert on the nominating process. Kierzek (talk) 00:07, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure where to accept the nomination -- the formatting appears very different from other RFAs. GABHello! 00:11, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The format may need fixing; pinging @Diannaa: Kierzek (talk) 00:13, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Diannaa and Kierzek: The page was just deleted to start anew. GABHello! 00:59, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The page needs to be properly transcluded and the clock started. This is initiated using the instructions provided to Jonas on his talk page. GeneralizationsAreBad, I can prepare a co-nomination statement in the meantime, if you will accept me as a co-nom. My two previous successful noms were Qwyrxian and Sergecross73, and my unsuccessful nom was Montanabw. — Diannaa (talk) 01:01, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, thank you very much. It is much appreciated, and hopefully we can add another successful nom to your record! GABHello! 01:02, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I will check in tomorrow, if that's alright. GABHello! 01:09, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Great, I will get something ready in the meantime and send it to you via email to review. — Diannaa (talk) 01:11, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
