Speedy deletion nomination of Dr. George Marion Johnson
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Dr. George Marion Johnson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.blackpast.org/aaw/johnson-george-marion-1900-1989. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Professor Osita Nebo has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. . Bbb23 (talk) 18:28, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Unsolicited advice (I was writing this when I learned you had been blocked)
[edit]You need to slow down and pay more attention to the notability criteria. For example, the nomination of Ikenna Dieke for deletion makes a valid point: just being a professor and a published author is not enough to qualify someone for an article in a general encyclopedia; how is this person special under the criteria for academics and for writers, or where is the extensive media coverage that qualifies them under Wikipedia's general notability guideline? In particular, no one is notable based on association with someone else, so being Chinua Achebe's mentee doesn't help. It also struck me that you created the article with an edit summary suggesting you were revising a previously existing article: "I overhauled the article and added more authentic sources to them." What's that about? Do you work from drafts you have prepared offline, or are you using some biographical source that you haven't mentioned?
On the other hand, I agree with you that Oleka K. Udeala is notable. But you did a hasty job, providing almost no information about him. When challenged, instead of adding a new reference, you repeated one you had already used. And one of your references was a forum post, which is not acceptable. I see you received a welcome template with links, but I think you could usefully look at this brief summary of what a new page needs to have, and your articles are much less likely to be nominated for deletion if you write out the information about the person's career in full based on the references; it can be hard to judge from a tiny stub. Have a look at the Udeala article now; I've expanded it, based initially on your two good references.
Why did you post a defence at User talk:103.226.225.23 rather than at AN/I or on the talk page of one of the editors who addressed you here—or even here?
... However, I see you have now been blocked. I'm still going to post this in case you get unblocked, or for any other new editors who may come by here after seeing discussion of your articles at AN/I or at AfD. Yngvadottir (talk) 18:38, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Gratitude
[edit]I felt delighted reading through all your edits and your final message that was so well and calmly presented. Truth is, although I created my account some months ago and have tried to use the period to read all the New User's guide, I had always wanted to communicate directly with an experienced editor who could give me more practical guide or interpretive explanations on some of the things I read as the policies. It's unfortunate however that my account has been blocked before I saw this. I am not even sure of the steps to take towards reopening it if it's ever going to be possible.
However, I want to sincerely appreciate your efforts and very impressively constructive criticism of my mistakes here, and yea, I was wrong to have gone to reply in a general chat space to the admin who marked the articles for deletion and reported my account. I know better now and hope to be act as one who's been better informed next time if I am given the opportunity. GodwinCollins (talk) 19:09, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello, GodwinCollins. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Sam Onuigbo, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Inquiry
[edit]Could you please help improve it or point exactly at what area should be edited? I could use such help. Thanks GodwinCollins (talk) 20:18, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- First you need to explain why you created four other accounts. --NeilN talk to me 20:43, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
I Don't Have Multiple Accounts.
[edit]I don't have four accounts. I don't even have two accounts. Some of us from our school decided to create pages for our lecturers. That's all. Not one person's account. GodwinCollins (talk) 21:06, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- Pinging Bbb23 (the administrator who performed the block) for their input. GodwinCollins, did the lecturers encourage this? --NeilN talk to me 21:10, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- Based on the technical data, I'm not convinced these are five separate people. Nor do I see how creating these articles for all these people is a benefit to Wikipedia.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:44, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Admins, My Apologies Please.
[edit]I don't think that trying to defend or explain why we decided to create articles for our lecturers or how it is beneficial to Wikipedia or if the lecturers are aware of our venture would be helpful here. I did the wrong thing and from the reactions, it's obvious that I broke rules and I sincerely apologise for it. If anyone could please help me know how to get my account running again, I will be better prepared to do articles that are compliant with the policies on Wikipedia. But like I said, I do not have multiple accounts. Except you meant logging in from different laptops or phone- like right now, I'm on mobile device. And I use different laptops depending on availability (I was not logging out from the others before logging in on a particular one). I don't know if that is a problem. I will, if my account is reopened, stick strictly to writing articles for those who have things that meet the criteria for notability independently among the other requirements.
My apologies please. GodwinCollins (talk) 04:51, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Analyzing the nature and strength of COI connection with University of Nigeria
[edit]Greetings GodwinCollins. I'm also a Nigerian editor on Wikipedia, and have created articles for more than ten professors during my time here. I have gone through the articles you've created for professors of UNN, and some might be notable for inclusion on Wikipedia, but for me to assist in improving them, I need to clarify a few concerns about your mission here. I see about 100% of your contributions have been centered on University of Nigeria, I need to know if you are a staff, lecturer, student, or related/connected to any faculty of the school? I need an answer to this question before proceeding in this discussion. Please be truthful in your reply, I am here to help in the best way I can irrespective of your connection with the school.HandsomeBoy (talk) 11:34, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, I can hardly edit or write back on from my "talk page" because I have been blocked indefinitely. And yes, I am connected to UNN as an Alumnus. --GodwinCollins (talk) 11:57, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
- The reason you were blocked was because the community wanted to be sure you first understood basic policies regarding content addition on Wikipedia, particularly multiple accounts usage, COI policy and creating too many short articles that are potentially not-notable. Getting unblocked is not a problem, you will get unblocked in due time. Under normal circumstance, being a random alumnus of one of the oldest and largest government universities like UNN is not a strong COI concern in my perspective. But for clarity sake, are you implying that you have never worked either directly or indirectly for any department (whether academic or non-academic) at University of Nigeria? HandsomeBoy (talk) 15:17, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks HansomeBoy, I am not a member of staff, academic or non-academic, of the University of Nigeria. Like I said earlier, my relationship with the school is as an alumnus. However, I work for an organization that helps Universities rank high Webnometrically and having studied some of the requirements, I felt I could contribute to my alma mater by creating Wikipedia pages for all the professors of the University at my spare time and also urging some of my colleagues to do like wise or review my writings to avoid errors. That's all that there is to it.--GodwinCollins (talk) 07:44, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
- I am happy with the progress we've made on the probable COI revelation. We will re-visit that later. If you continue this way, you will regain the trust of the community and get unblocked soon. Now to the second issue highlighted above, Bbb23 blocked you mainly because of the detection that your ip address was used by two other Wikipedia accounts. I have read your defense above, but it doesn't address the situation properly. Using different devices is not sockpuppetry, I use phones during the day and computers mainly at night, yet I'm not questioned for using multiple accounts. Is it possible that the webometrics-inclined organization you work for or the "colleagues you urged" to edit UNN articles are using a shared network as yourself? Or let me paraphrase, to the best of your knowledge, do you have friends who contribute to Wikipedia on the same computer or location as yourself? HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:37, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I subscribed and shared data with them since it is not part of the official duties. That seems to be the reason for the sameness of the IP address, if I got the question well.--GodwinCollins (talk) 12:10, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, that explains the checkuser finding. To get unblocked, this is what you need to do:
- Use the
{{unblock | reason=reason why you should be unblocked ~~~~}}
template to disclose all accounts that are connected to the shared network. There is a level of distinction that should exist among all Wikipedia users, when such is not obvious it is regarded as Wikipedia:Meat puppetry. You need to explain that you understand that this is not allowed and have realized your mistake then promise not to do it again. Secondly, you need to agree to submit your articles for review through WP:Articles for creation, before it is moved to mainspace. This is necessary for the time-being till you've garnered more experience on assessing the notability of professors on Wikipedia. There have been several alumni of UNN, who have been ministers and head of notable academic establishments, you can start by creating articles for those. I can offer you suggestions later if you desire. But more importantly, concentrate on improving ONE article at a time. Wikipedia already has too many stubs on Nigerian content, we need articles with more depth. HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:39, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
Many thanks HandsomeBoy. Sorry I've not been here, I'll do as you said right away.--GodwinCollins (talk) 11:28, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- I saw you submitted an unblock request through UTRS, while that is advisable when the sharing of sensitive information is paramount to the legitimacy of the request, the process is quite slow and you wouldn't be able to maximize the opinions of talkpage stalkers like myself, since we don't know the details of the mail. Since you've already sent it, I can only hope that it will turn out well. But if you don't have any serious personal information in your unblock request, I reckon an open unblock request will be more effective. HandsomeBoy (talk) 00:08, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
