Alistair Wilson
[edit]Background
Alistair Wilson is a visual artist who was born in Penarth, South Wales, in 1951. Wilson began his studies at Preston Polytechnic, graduating to Bath Academy School of Art and eventually moving onto the Chelsea College of the Arts where he would realise his potential as a sculptor. In addition Wilson also spent a year in Berlin on a DAAD Postgraduate Fellowship in 1975 broadening his views and scope as an artist. Most recently Wilson was the course director of the Master of Fine Art degree at the University of Ulster until 2014. Wilson is currently a full time practitioner and seen as one of Northern Ireland's most forthcoming visual artists often dealing 'with changes of state, order, chaos and metamorphosis.'[1]
Recent Work
In 2017 Wilson worked on a collaborative exhibition between Belfast's, Golden Thread Gallery and the Millennium Court Gallery, Portadown, Northern Ireland in which, 'Wilson likes to play with deception, turning the impossible into the possible by transformation: liquid becomes solid, watery objects float and voluminous wells defy any preconception of their weight.'[2]
Alistair Wilson continues to develop his craft as a visual artist in Belfast, Northern Ireland using found material, painting and sculpting in his work.
