I removed the gallery at Hans Sachs (poster collector) because that section heading said they were "Like Those in the Hans Sachs Collection" - which I understood to mean that those posters weren't necessarily part of the collection. Either way, the list of images would not really aid our readers' understanding of Hans Sachs (as opposed to, say, early 20th century poster art) and thus seems off-topic on that article. If reliable sources highlight some particularly famour posters Sachs owned we could add those, but we shouldn't overo it. Huon (talk) 22:55, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to your email: You asked about my edit on Revent's talk page. In short, I mistakenly believed Revent had made a typo; however, Revent's original code was correct, and I quickly reverted my own edit. The first part of the edit summary is the title of the section I edited, the last part, remove typo: Only one colon for "subst:" was added by me to describe what I did: I thought I was fixing a typo by removing one of the colons from "{{subst::Hans Sachs (poster collector)}}". Let me elaborate a little: When using "subst" to duplicate a page, that's usually done for pages in the "Template" WP:Namespace, such as Template:Smiley. For convenience, such pages can be substituted by using just a single colon and the page name, without prefix: {{subst:Smiley}} will give this: . However, if you want to duplicate a page that's not in the template namespace, say our article Smiley, the software must be able to tell that you're not trying to duplicate Template:Smiley. Thus the article code cannot be duplicated by {{subst:Smiley}}; the code to duplicate a non-template page instead uses two colons: {{subst::Smiley}} would duplicate the code of the article on smileys.
If this seems rather complicated, don't worry; templates and substitution are rather tricky, but you can go far without ever using either. In fact I never substituted a non-template page; that's part of the reason why I mistakenly believed in a typo on Revent's part. Huon (talk) 18:37, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I also just saw the message you left at my user page. The usual place for such messages is not the user page but the user talk page; thus someone removed your message, but unfortunately didn't add it to the talk page. Sorry for that. Regarding your question: I had understood " like one that was sold at one of the Hans Sachs auctions" to mean that they were, say, stylistically similar, not that Sachs owned copies of those same posters. On second thought and after reading the article's sources it's obvious that I misunderstood you. However, I'd still say that dozens of posters are overkill. I think the only one explicitly mentioned in the text of a source (instead of just added in a "Look, nice picture!" fashion) is Flagg's "I want YOU" recruitment poster; how about adding that one? I flat out do not understand Wikipedia.

My article on Hans Sachs was more or less accepted and now exists under that name.

But my sandbox contains my original version, and if I edit it away, those edits take place on the Hans Sachs article.

How do I clear out my sandbox to begin anew?

What is actually in your sandbox is a WP:REDIRECT to the article, left behind when it was moved to the main space. So when you click on it you are taken to the article. But if you then look at the top left, just under the article title you will see "Redirected from User:Henrytow/sandbox". Clicking on that will take you back to the actual sandbox page with the redirect, which you can then delete or replace with anything you like. JohnCD (talk) 19:27, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Hans Sachs (poster collector), which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Please see the section of Wikipedia's Manual of Style on galleries: WP:GALLERY. I hope this will help you understand more why the gallery was removed. Help me!

Please help me with... A number of images that I have uploaded now have a new message that a United States public domain tag is needed.

I have now been looking for such for 15 minutes, and as a small rebellion against the extreme difficulty of using Wikipedia, I now ask someone to tell me.

What, specifically, is a United States public domain tag? Please point me to an example.

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Henrytow. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
