Hi; thanks muchly for apprising me. The block I originally gave the user expired after 24 hours. I haven't seen any dodgy edits from this user since March 27th, but I'll continue to do periodic checks of his/her contributions. Cheers, -- Hadal 07:13, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

VfD delisting

[edit]

Hi Hydnjo, to answer your questions: first of all, the Virtual piano page apparently was never listed on VfD correctly: there is no link on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion to its subpage, so no one would ever have noticed its existence (how did you find it, by the way? I saw it going by this morning on Recent Changes). The normal policy is to list something for five days Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Unlisting_a_page_from_VfD at which time an administrator makes a decision based on consensus. It sure looks to me like we have consensus to keep the page under a new title. I'm a brand-new admin (as of two days ago) and have never done this; guess now's as good a time to learn as any.  :-) Oh, and anyone can move a page -- click the "move this page" link, and it leaves a redirect behind at the old page name. Best, Antandrus 21:06, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

OK, I think I did that right. It's now here: Piano key frequencies and there are no double-redirects. A link to the archived deletion discussion is on the talk page. Antandrus 21:33, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Regarding the links, they do not change by themselves (this can be one of the most time-consuming tasks related to page moves). Usually leaving links as redirects is OK, but in this case the new article name is so different from the old that manual changing is probably in order. I'll get started; it's more fun than finishing my 1040. Happy editing! Antandrus

25A

[edit]

Yeah, that would go there, to keep it sorted properly. Otherwise 25A goes with 250-259. --SPUI (talk) 15:34, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Better? More obsessed, perhaps. I got to where I am now in under three and a half months... Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:18, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi Hydnjo, I noticed your comment on Kim Bruning's page and thought I'd drop you a line. One, it looks like you inserted your comment in the middle of Kevin Rector's comments. In general, it's best to add your section at the bottom of the page. While occasionally it makes sense to respond to individual sentences or paragraphs of a comment, it's probably better not to insert a new section heading with in it. I hope you don't mind if I rearrange the sections to restore his comment. Regarding User:SPUI, I think that's unlikely. He has a quirky sense of humor, and added that himself (you'll also notice that he's listed himself as a suspected sockpupper of Jesus and of SPUI/jajaja). Actually, "SPUI" stands for "Single Point Urban Interchange"—SPUI is interested in roads and transportation, as you'll no doubt notice from his userpage. Sorry for eavesdropping, and hope this helps. — Knowledge Seeker 02:36, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I wouldn't call it a faux pas, but then again I am the one who was eavesdropping. Anyway, I am glad to be of help. — Knowledge Seeker 04:40, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I agree with Knowlege Seeker (Thanks for fielding the question! And my talk page is public, so I don't think you're eavesdropping :-)). Hmmm, even if SPUI were a sockpuppet of Sollog, it still wouldn't matter I think. As long as SPUI acts like, well, SPUI, (and that's good behaviour), there's no way to be able to tell the difference anyway, so the (modified) turing test says we should just treat him as SPUI. ;-) Kim Bruning 11:14, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I completely agree...

[edit]

I agree with your comment (thanx for it), and that rule is quite breakable, and maybe arbitrary...

let's prepare a good argument for that rule,

thanx for the google link :)

The Samurai Saga

[edit]

My, but you're up late! Yeah, I really don't know what to do about this guy. I just hope he straightens up and flies right. If you feel it's appropriate, leave a comment of your own. Signing off for now. 'Night! - Lucky 6.9 06:45, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The reference is probably more directly zzyzx. The road plays a part in a fairly recent Michael Connelly novel as well. -- Rick Block 12:46, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Better things to care about...

[edit]

Yeah, right, thinking deeply about it, I'm sure it isn't worth to really care about twenty or 20, but, again, it is one of the many things that have to be re written on help and rules of [the great] Wikipedia. Well, we keep on contact, if I need anything (and if you need anything) I'll just msg you, (you can do so too).

The dark armies then will come... [isolated phrase to fill space]

More on La Cienega

[edit]

Oh, well. I thought the photos were credited to Caltrans. Are personal photos on a website covered under some sort of tacit copyright, I wonder? Just have to shoot some of my own next time I'm in the Land of La, which will probably be around Saint Swivven's Day.  :^P Have some wine for me! It's Friday! - Lucky 6.9 03:11, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It slices! It dices!

[edit]

LOL! Oh, this is rich! First, we have no article on an iconic product. Then, we have a copyvio. Next, a temp article and finally, a substub under a different title! When this mess is over, I'm going to merge everything to Ginsu. Funny! - Lucky 6.9 02:02, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Yikes

[edit]

Thanks for alerting me to that mess. And a mess it is indeed. The Piano key frequencies are all one octave too high! I fixed the Piano page though. Antandrus 22:44, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Ah, yes. I fixed the bottom octave again (oops) and removed the dashes as well, since C-1 is different from C1 (C-1 is one octave below C0, C1 one octave above).
B♭7 certainly looks nicer than Bb7, and a lot of music editors prefer this notation. Unfortunately it doesn't display on all computers, which is the only reason I don't use it myself (I'm not sure if it is a font or Unicode issue or what).
As of rules for using flats versus sharps, there is no actual rule; it looks like flats and sharps are equally balanced in this one, so F#, C#, Bb, Eb, Ab rather than all sharps or all flats. It might be better to label the black keys F#/Gb, C#/Db to avoid the confusion.
Hope this helps! Antandrus 15:17, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
And coincidentally I was just checking in on my watchlist. I think that the #/b is more common than b/#, i.e. G#7/Ab7, though probably there is no actual standard. It sounds right to me anyway. Thanks for helping edit this monster! Antandrus 18:34, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Yes — I'm slowly losing my life to Wikipedia. I'm slowly cutting down my watch list, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:19, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure exactly what you want it to look like, but you can adjust the width of each column. You can put a percentage on each cell, like this:

| width=25% | first cell contents || width=50% | second cell contents || width=25% | third cell contents

which will look like this:

first cell contents second cell contents third cell contents

The percent is in relation to the table width. You can instead specify an exact width in pixels, like width=250.

Either way, if you do it on the first row it will apply to all rows. —Wahoofive (Talk) 20:29, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

User Talk Archiving

[edit]

I was reading your hints to User:Wyss and was wondering if archiving Username's talk under User talk:Username/Archive #n would satisfy your concerns. hydnjo talk 03:42, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Nope, not really, my point was that User talk:<username>/foo is only appropriate if it's a discussion of User:<username>/foo. Feel free to manage things however you want to however, it's just a matter of æsthetics after all. (sorry for the late reply, I was out for a walk) --fvw* 00:40, 2005 Apr 28 (UTC)

Piano key frequencies

[edit]

You're quite welcome--and thanks for your fixes to the black key names and table width. The page is looking a lot better now. Wikipedia is strangely addictive, isn't it? Antandrus 20:26, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
