I've just found out that you are (or were) part of a Nigerian library editathon, thanks to your creation of the Nancy Achebe article. However, I'm still not inclined to unblock you without hearing from you or your instructor, because even though it seems that your edits here are in good faith, they're doing more harm than good. If you honestly think this edit,, which created sentence fragments, or this edit, which changed a valid use of a semicolon into a comma splice, are grammar fixes, then I'd say that you should never try to fix grammar on the English Wikipedia again, because those edits are 100% unhelpful. I doubt this is your fault; the other languages you know probably interfere with your conception of English. More alarmingly, this edit was not a grammar fix at all but a change of date format from the UK/international DMY format (with day first) to the American/Canadian MDY format (with month first). Because Nigeria is an English-speaking former colony of Britain, changing date formats from DMY to MDY is a violation of the Manual of Style on dates and numbers. Before I'd encountered your edits, the only editors I'd seen making changes like that were vandals, so that's why I saw you as a disruptive editor and blocked you last night (my time). Also, Wikipedia prefers to use lower-case rather than capital letters when it can, so edits like this are not helpful either. You might think about editing on an African-language Wikipedia (e.g. Yoruba, Hausa, or Igbo); they need all the help they can get. Graham87 11:31, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am sorry, I was only trying to show a new editor how to edit. I planned editing the work back into shape after the training with the new editor but was blocked before I could do that. Please unblock me. I am not a vandal. I will not do it again. My library will be having their annual edit-a-thon from 8th-9th May, 2019 and I need to participate. As you can see, I created Nancy Achebe's article during my library's last year edit-a-thon event and it was welcomed by the Wikipedia team.

Decline reason:

You claim you aren't a vandal but indicate you did indeed vandalise Wikipedia. We can't unblock you until you convince us you understand why your actions were inappropriate and that you'll never edit like that again. Yamla (talk) 17:13, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Also, which library, which Wikipedian (if any) is supervising you, and is there an online page describing the editathon? Do you have any relationship with this editor? Graham87 01:36, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have unblocked this account because the block appeared to be preventing editing from an on-going edit-a-thon. I am NOT unblocking because I think the block was wrong; I have not reviewed in depth nor discussed with the blocking admin. This is just a stop-gap measure to limit damage to what appears to be a legitimate on-going edit-a-thon. Therefore, please take extreme care to not disrupt further. Ask here if you have any questions. If you are a part of the edit-a-thon, follow the directions of the person running it --18:25, 8 May 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Floquenbeam (talkcontribs)

Your most recent edits

[edit]

Hello again, I've taken a look at your most recent edits. I've noticed that you're no longer changing date formats, which is good, and edits like this one to Yemi Alade are useful, but I still have serious concernsabout some of your edits to Wikipedia. I've undone many of them because they added unnecessary capitalisation and punctuation, which just isn't needed in modern English writing, such as this edit to Onos Ariyo and this edit to Mabel Segun. I think I understand why you made these edits (even though I and many other Wikipedia editors don't like them and you should stop making them); they would have been correct in English from fifty or a hundred years ago but are considered old-fashioned now. I'll even forgive you for this edit, assuming you didn't know that singer-songwriter is a proper term. However, I am extremely concerned by edits like this one to Chinelo Okparanta, where you changed "Okparanta has published short stories in publications including Granta, The New Yorker ..." to "Okparanta has published short stories including Granta, The New Yorker ...", making it sound like she'd written a short story called "The New Yorker", for example, when she clearly hadn't. There's also this edit, where you added capitalisation in the middle of a sentence to the word "supports". Please be extremely careful about edits like this in the future.
