Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Birkbeck UoL", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. – NJD-DE (talk) 18:38, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website – I have blocked this account. Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a change of username of your current account here. The new username must represent only yourself as an individual and comply with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:51, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Please be advised that Wikipedia does not have or permit "official" accounts – user accounts are strictly for individual personal use only. If you'd like to choose a different username that represents one person only, please say so here on this page (it doesn't need to be a real name). If there's more than one of you, you'll need an account for each. Please read this page about disclosure for editors who want to make edits relating to their employer. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:56, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Cabayi! Ilay at Birkbeck, would you please make an appropriate paid-editor disclosure on your user-page (User:Ilay at Birkbeck) before making any further edit relating in any way to your employer?
Here's some boiler-plate text on how to do that: If you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Ilay at Birkbeck. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Ilay at Birkbeck|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}.

Thanks for explaining this - and also explaining how. User profile has been changed as advised. Ilay at Birkbeck (talk) 15:52, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
