Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Hello, I'm Jim1138. I noticed that in this edit to Gujari language, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jim1138 (talk) 09:32, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add or significantly change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did with this edit to Gujari language. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Jim1138 (talk) 09:37, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information must be verifiable

[edit]

Please see wp:verifiability. Please wp:cite a wp:reliable source supporting your information. Also, please use wp:edit summaries (ES) Jim1138 (talk) 09:42, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you won't generally abide by Wikipedia wp:policy, perhaps you shouldn't be editing here?
Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Gujari language. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Jim1138 (talk) 10:03, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The information already there was unsourced anyway. You are acting very threateningly towards me, it is evident that I have made the page much better and spent time doing so due to my knowledge of the topic.

If you are knowledgeable and scholarly, you should know to wp:cite wp:reliable sources? Do you have a problem with that? Jim1138 (talk) 10:16, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Gujari language. Jim1138 (talk) 10:23, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Gujari language shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Please try to understand my edit and the difference it made to the page, do not be biased towards the other editor. Wikipedia is for everyone.

Sources are very important

[edit]

If you are not wp:citing wp:reliable sources, you are not improving the article. Just because someone else didn't source, does not mean sources are no longer required. Jim1138 (talk) 10:47, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for advising me Jim. I will edit in a better way later on. Maybe you could help with it.

Best regards,

Sultan

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 11:03, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing

[edit]

Citations wp:cite and its associated links such as help:footnotes and help:referencing for beginners. The use of a wp:template allows one to easily format a reference to the usual Wikipedia norms. Commonly used templates are {{cite web}} {{cite book}} {{cite journal}} (magazines and academic journals) and {{cite news}} One can easily create these using the wp:RefToolbar/2.0 which is available at the the top of the edit box. The toolbar is usually enabled, but can be changed by wp:preferences.

One can look at the "source code" of other articles to see what references look like. Just click "Edit source" or "Edit" (depending on how your preferences are set). References may not be found in an obvious place. Templates can be quite confusing as some are made from multiple templates and involve "tricks". Be careful that you don't inadvertently make a change and save it. I've done that, it's embarrassing when I get a message "why did you do that".

Information sources wp:reliable sources (RS) is what constitutes an acceptable source of information. Please note that information that is more contentious needs higher quality sources. Blogs, Facebook, YouTube, and other wp:selfpublished are generally not acceptable. A blog by a renowned expert in the field may be acceptable. Information must generally be wp:secondary or tertiary sourced. Primary sources are usually not acceptable.

Please check your work Before saving your changes with "Save changes" I would recommend using wp:Show preview and checking your changes. Especially when editing references. I find many editors who leave big red reference error messages on pages.

Help You can find lots of how-to information on the "Help" link on the left grey-column of any page. The Help can be confusing as it has evolved over time and is done by an unorganized group - a bunch of volunteers. You can ask for help by asking at the wp:teahouse or wp:help desk. Also, you can add the template {{help me}} to a new section on your talk page.

BRD If you are reverted, it is best to ask the person for advice on what to do. See wp:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle (BRD).

Talk pages It is best to keep the conversation on one page. If someone leaves a message on your talk page, reply to it on the same page. Use wp:notifications or a "ping" to inform the person of your reply to get their attention. Otherwise, the other person may not be aware of your message. A ping is not necessary when leaving a message on a person's own talk page. For me, you can add
{{ping|Jim1138}} your message ~~~~
Note that you must save the "ping" (or notification template) and your signature/four tildes with one "Save changes" or it will not likely let the person know. If you are not sure if you did it or not, just add another ping and signature: {{ping|Jim1138}} ~~~~ You can also add {{talkback|InformavoreSultan}} on the person's talk page.

Please remember to sign your talk (on talk pages such as this) with four tildes: "~~~~" That allows people to know who is speaking. Otherwise, it is an unknown voice appearing with no connection to a user. For more information on having discussions, please see wp:talk page guidelines.

Essentially, please cite a good source to support the information that you add. As you have noted, too much information is not sourced. As most anyone can edit most anything, the only way Wikipedia can have any essence of credibility is when information is cited. One can add wp:cleanup tags to articles. After a few months with Thanks for asking! Best of luck. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 19:20, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BTW: Per wp:BLANKING you can remove, in this case, all of this from your talk page. You might want to keep some for reference - which is taken as a sign of good intent by other editors. Thanks Jim1138 (talk) 19:23, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
