Conflict of interest and undisclosed paid editing

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Jeremy Smithfield. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Smithfield Foods, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:21, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest Disclosure

[edit]

Disclosure: My name is Jeremy and I am a paid employee of the Dalton Agency, contributing on behalf of Smithfield Foods.

User name

Hi Jeremy, thank you for disclosing that you're being paid to edit on behalf of Smithfield.

Do you have other accounts for other clients (e.g. Jeremy Smithfield, Jeremy SomeOtherClient)? If you do, those would need to be attached to this account so that editors can see it's the same person. You can add {{User alternative account}} to your user page; there are also userboxes to choose from here. Going forward you would be expected to choose one account and edit only with that. Many thanks, SarahSV (talk) 15:55, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SarahSV, this is my only Wikipedia account. Jeremy Smithfield (talk) 16:27, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you for confirming that. If you do edit for another client in future, you probably won't want to be Jeremy Smithfield for them, so please bear in mind what I've said. Changing names is easy. All your contributions would be forwarded to the new account, so you wouldn't lose any. See Wikipedia:Changing username. Thanks again, SarahSV (talk) 16:32, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
