Hello back
[edit]Hi Jon, thanks for the invite. I won't be in the vicinity for a while (except for unforeseen circumstances) but will keep it in mind! JFW | T@lk 19:54, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Invitation to participate
[edit]Hello Jon Davies (WMUK), On the German-language Wikipedia the community has introduced a system for several years in what users conform that they have met other users in real life. This system was created to create more trust between users and thus creating a better and nicer place to work on the wiki. On the German-language Wikipedia it is a huge success and I translated almost everything of this tool in English so that also users from other Wikipedias can use it. It only makes sense to sign up into the system if you have met at least three other users in person. We have met and you have been several occasions where you have met other Wikimedians, so that shouldn't be a problem. You can sign up for the tool, after three other users confirm they have met you, you can confirm other users yourself. About this system, more information can be found at Wikipedia:Personal acquaintances. In the green section are the instructions. On Wikipedia:Personal acquaintances/Participants will grow a list of participants who are active in the English speaking parts of the world. It would be great if would you sign up! :-) Greetings - Romaine (talk) 15:42, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- PS: On the German-language Wikipedia, everything is translated into English, but you need perhaps to set your preferences on English to show it in this language. Romaine (talk) 15:42, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
Hillsborough
[edit]Hello, I've no idea if it's appropriate for you to get involved, but there's some discussion about whether the recent events regarding vandalism should be mentioned in the Hillsborough article itself (current consensus: no) Talk:Hillsborough disaster#Removal of the section about the government IP edits. 2.25.112.149 (talk) 13:51, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Not really appropriate - at least not as a member of staff. General rules apply - is it in line with editing guidelines and what does the community think? Be a good point to pose on the Hillsborough Disaster talk page. 16:38, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
De Vicipaedia
[edit]We got your message! It was a nice idea, and thanks for thinking of us. Main problem is, no really active Vicipaedians are in Britain (not even me). Ah, well, I have suggested Tenochtitlán as a suitably classical meeting place next year, and we'll see whether anyone takes up that idea ... Andrew Dalby 17:46, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
- Alas. a good thought though! There is always a welcome for you in the London office if anyone is passing through. Bonum opus encycoedia. Jon Davies (WMUK) (talk) 07:38, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Thank you
[edit]Thank's for your interest! I think we've everything ready by now. I've been visiting Wikimania pages on a daily basis for the last months. You can see that there have been some complains, mainly about lack of information. Our problems have been small, but people needing visas or complex travel arrangements have had a more difficult time. But we really expect to have a great time next August. We'll see you there!
