Searcy, Arkansas/Mike Beebe
[edit]Thanks for your input on the Searcy, Arkansas page, Josh. Please note, though, that I never actually said Mike Beebe was born in Searcy. The fact that he has lived and worked in the city for a long time would seem to fit at least one idea of a hometown, in my opinion. I wouldn't ever automatically assume that a birthplace equates with a hometown. If I did that, I'd be saying — for example — that Nicole Kidman's hometown is Honolulu. — ArkansasTraveler 14:10, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Username, user and user talk pages
[edit]Hi Josh, you had a different user page and another different user talk page at names which were not your username, which can cause confusion and mean the user contributions link does not appear on the pages. When moving the pages you said it was for caps, so can I suggest you change your username at Wikipedia:Changing username which will re-attribute your contributions to a new name of your choice. Thanks, mattbr30 13:58, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Right, Matt, I'll look into doing that.Josh a brewer 05:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
MFA article
[edit]Hi Josh, in regards to the Master of Fine Arts article, you wrote:
Thanks for your contribution to the MFA article. I don't think that the plastic arts and visual arts are the same thing, as you note indicated (the former term doesn't totally capture the latter), yet I'll let the edit stand, because it seems not to matter that much. In my understanding, the plastic arts do not include what most people usually think of when they think of art--painting. Josh a brewer (talk) 12:41, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I never said that they're the same thing... I indicated that visual arts is an umbrella term and that Plastic Arts is a type of visual art. In the same way the article sums up MFAs in Theater Production, Theater Acting, Theater Directing, Theater Technology, etc. as simply MFA in Theater Arts, I think it is appropriate for it to sum up all the visual arts media (e.g., photography, painting, print making, new media, etc.) as an MFA in Visual Arts.
I briefly looked into this and I think this is an issue of American vs. British English. In the American university system there isn't such thing as an MFA in Plastic Arts and, in fact, the American art word (and academic art world) doesn't even use the term (we simply call it "sculpture").
Even though there is such a thing as an MFA in Plastic Arts, I'm not sure it makes sense to specify it separately from Visual Arts. Plastic Arts is really a sub-category of Visual Arts (at least I believe that's the case, as an American art professor I'm mainly familiar with how we categorize things in the U.S.) and if the article specifically mentions "Plastic Arts," I don't see why it doesn't break out and mention all the visual art media: photography, ceramics, printmaking, painting, new media, film, etc. Simenzo (talk) 15:15, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Posting to talk pages
[edit]Remember always to post at the bottom of the page, not the top (as you did with Talk:Crawdaddy! recently). --Orange Mike | Talk 16:14, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey Josh, if you get a chance, could you weigh in at the discussion at Talk:The Road concerning the novel's genre? It's nothing new, just the same old ground being tread and re-tread by the scifi fans, but they clearly don't consider the issue settled.--Cúchullain t/c 03:26, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's the same old same old; certain users are trying to classify the novel as scifi because they really, really want it to be. And Orangemike is egging them on despite a total lack of sources backing up the claim. It looks like the dispute has died down for now, but that page require watching because this comes up periodically, any time a new scifi fan comes by and is apalled to find that categorization missing.--Cúchullain t/c 14:33, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
This is an encyclopedia page for Wabash College with "history", it is not glossy print. You could at least have the decency to talk about it before deleting (over and over again) --Nconwaymicelli (talk) 17:54, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- According to who? And who are you? Yeah, exactly what I said, glossy print man, no substance on his glossy print pages. --Nconwaymicelli (talk) 20:54, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- BTW, the V-12 info WAS in a separate section, YOU removed it remember? --- short memory too--Nconwaymicelli (talk) 07:54, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
I suggest that this discussion be taken to the Wabash College talk page The World 21:20, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
- Not interested in starting a war. Leave it where it is, though it now looks like something a computer inserted automatically, without regard to the paragraphs in the history section. The info doesn't deserve its own section as that gives it disproportionate importance in the 180ish-year-history of the school (unless, that is, this new section also contains info about Wabash College men who were involved in every war since the Civil War), nor does it make any sense in a history section that is simply about college presidents. Leave it your way. Just know that it makes the article worse. Josh a brewer (talk) 01:52, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Ms. Yoder
[edit]Per WP:Politician, she won't be notable as a politician unless she wins the election. She isn't notable really for her Miss America stuff because she didn't win. I did business with her family for years when I lived in SW Michigan. They just about own Shipshewana. But unfortunately, on a worldview, she really isn't notable YET. Save all your research and we can work up an article together a little closer to November, just in case she wins. I am not too hopeful, cause isn't she a Democrat? Most democrats outside of "Da Region" don't hold a snowball's chance in Hell of winning in Indiana. BTW idsnews.com is the campus paper at IU. Gtwfan52 (talk) 00:44, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest
[edit]US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |
