Know Nothing Addition

Hi Ksheab22, thanks for your addition to Know Nothing, but I would suggest you look at reverting and revising the effort. The content is fine to add, but the writing style is a bit non-encyclopedic. It also would fit better into the Louisiana subsection of the article. It's too in-depth for the lead section (see: MOS:LEAD). In terms of style, for Wikipedia, you should aim for a style that presents clearly and plainly the facts of the matter (see: WP:TONE). While some articles may present a source directly in text the way you did, usually they are placed as footnoted references (see: MOS:REF). Below is what you added; I haven't removed it from the article so that you have a chance to go back and look at how to better incorporate the information. I would suggest you focus on getting the Anderson quote into the Louisiana section of the article; it would help underscore the point being made there about 'Gallican Catholicism', which really applied to the old Creole Catholic population, and not the new immigrants coming from Ireland, Italy, and other places (something I'd hope Anderson article would also mention).

To follow up with this, in the Journal of Southern History, vol. 85, author Kristen Anderson discusses how Louisiana had one of the most successful organizations in the South in regard to the Know Nothing Party. This party was known to be anti-Catholic, opposed to slavery, and had the power to get people to be elected to the Louisiana office, as well. The article explains that many of the Louisianans (both Catholic and non-Catholic) believed Catholics of Louisiana committed to “Gallican Catholicism, which denied that the pope should have any power over temporal affairs and, as a result, seemed to nativists to be less threatening than the Catholic mainstream.” Overall, the Louisianan “Know Nothings” contributed to the learning of politics that many people did not understand about them.

Just as some minor style points, too: journal titles should be set in italics, and you should replace curled quotes/apostrophes with straight ones. The citation should use the {{Cite journal}} template style and <ref>...</ref> tags.
