Hello, Kyoko/Archive1, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Wikipedia Boot Camp, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! If you end up reading this one, please consider having a go at revising the W&P article which has been marked for improvement. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 09:57, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

very worth sticking with - I have a similar problem - but don't like to be beaten - Pictures I get off amazon, the pblisther, authros own website, google image or any where else I can find, - they are used under "fair use" terms (book covers that is. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 08:28, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help me with Royall Tyler disambiguation

[edit]

To whoever answers this help request, this is what I would like to know:

I'm currently reading a book that has been recently translated by Royall Tyler, a retired professor of an Australian university. This is not the same person as Royall Tyler, the American playwright who died some 150 years ago. I know how to make a stub for Tyler the translator, but I don't understand the help directions for how to do the disambiguation. Please help me. Thanks! --Tachikoma 15:14, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have two options:
  1. If the translator is less popular than the playwright. In that case, create the translator's article at Royall Tyler (academic). Then put a notice like "For the Australian professor, see Royall Tyler (academic). at the top of the Royall Tyler article
  2. Move Royall Tyler to Royall Tyler (playwright) (using the move button). Then create a disambiguation page at Royall Tyler, pointing to the two articles: Royall Tylerr (playwright) and Royall Tyler (academic).
I can help you with either option, just let me know.--Commander Keane 15:25, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
All you do is write your article with a name like Royall Tyler (australian translator) or similar title. Then you make reference to the Royall Tyler page that contains a list of "Disambiguations" i.e. peopl of the same name, containing links and one liner description of what distinguishes them. If the Royall Tyler article is taken (i.e. exists) you can just make a link at the top of the article like {{dablink|for the playwriter of the same name, see [[Royall Tyler]]}} and another one on the top of the other article pointing in the other direction. If there are a number of such people you could generate a disambiguation article with number of pople of similar or same name like Royall Tyler (disambiguation). Hope that helps. Try something, let me know and I'll have a look at it. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 15:32, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll go ahead and delete the page. You can place the warning on the user's talk page if you feel it's appropriate, but s/he seems to have gone. -- Vary | Talk 16:55, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But for the record, yes, I think it's acceptable to blank the anon's user page and move the comment to talk. If the talk page for that anon hasn't been created yet, it might be better to move the page, rather than copy and pasting, but in this case that wasn't possible, as the talk page already had comments on it. -- Vary | Talk 16:58, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm leaving you this message because a while ago you contacted me [1] about the aforementioned page. I'm sure there isn't much point to this, but it seems that page has been hit with vandals, as noted by [2], [3], etc. I"ve reveted again, but it seems the user is no longer here, so I am wondering whether, at this point, reverting even matters. What's your thought? --Pilot|guy 21:48, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What you're looking for is [4] (godmode light) or [5] (popups). Either one works but godmode light is usually glitchy so I would just use popups. --Pilot|guy 00:01, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to vandal warning toolbox

I hope you're finding the warning toolbox useful. I've made a few minor changes to it that you might want to be aware of. --Kbh3rdtalk 21:02, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder...

[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 21:16, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You forgot to subst: here -- User talk:81.159.96.49. Don't fret, everyone makes mistakes -- we're not perfect! Happy editing! — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 03:11, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If however there is a problem in the script itself, you could have a large but easy to fix problem. Many people use these two anti-vandal tools, so many people could unintentionally be creating raw test messages. -- that's actually not a bad thought. That may be the case after all. Would you mind looking into it? I'd do it myself, but I don't know which software you use and whatnot. See what you come up with. Thanks. In that case of course, all you'd have to do is fix the javascript. I don't know anything about Javascript, so don't look at me. :P
I'm a bit fuzzy on the advantage of using subst: versus the raw test warning. Does the subst: prefix put a non-editable copy of the warning on the talk page versus a warning that's actually linked to the template (and which could be changed if someone altered the original template)? That's mostly true, however the template text is not non-editable, but essentially, the warning is copied from the template at that instant. But essentially, you have the general idea of what subst: does. Happy editing! — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 03:19, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Status indicator

[edit]

I went ahead and added to to your page. If you need to change it just go to User:Tachikoma/Status. There are three indicators you can use; online, busy, and away (offline). Just replace {{User:Tachikoma/Status2|away}} with one of those three. This was created (I think) by Misza13 as well, not by me. --Pilot|guy 02:23, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

"Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to Cystic fibrosis. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Tachikoma 11:24, 31 May 2006 (UTC)!

I'd like to apologise on behalf of my bro for him mindlessly editing rubbish into articles. Little did I realise his edits would tarnish my own IP address. I'd like to know whether I have any official warning to my name now, or whether it was a purely verbal warning. - Si

Thanks for voting!
Hello Kyoko/Archive1, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care.

A short Esperanzial update

[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:how do you get the green "a" in your signature?

[edit]

Glad to see that you figured it out! Though it looks like you have the "o" linked as green, but say that it is an "a" - not sure if that matters, but wanted to point it out. :) Let me know if you have any questions. -- Natalya 02:18, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That makes lots of sense now - it looks good! And thanks for the congratulations! -- Natalya 18:49, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for contributing the impressive the pile of supports gathered on my RfA, which passed with a final tally of 0x0104/0x01/0x00. I'm happy that so many people have put faith in my abilities as an admin and promise to use the tools wisely and do my best not to let you down. Userpage design

[edit]

Sure, I'd be happy to help out! Are there any details (like color scheme) that you'd like to specify before I start? Regards, Sango123 03:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I used to be a fan, but I've always liked the name Sango. :)

I've never done a design in purple before, so it was simply too tempting.... Anyway, it was a joy to design, as it was already nicely organized, and I'm quite eager to hear what you think of your new userpage. Don't hesitate to complain if you want something changed. ;) By the way, may I have permission to adjust User:Tachikoma/Status a bit as well? Cheers, Sango123 00:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Tachikoma, I'm truly humbled to have received the first barnstar you've ever awarded. :) As for editing your userpage sections, the colored boxes won't be affected as long as you only change your original content and leave everything in tags (like <div>) alone. Well, I'm off to tweak your status indicator. Regards, Sango123 04:33, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Thank you, I'd be honored if you gave me credit on your userpage!
Fixed. Hope you don't mind that I centered the text. Thanks, Sango123 23:46, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Substitue"

[edit]

Thanks kindly for catching that; I suppose the ol' plank from one's own eye parable applies, but then again I'm not much for religion. In any event, I'll waive the capital punishment in this instance, but the next offense will be noted at Wikipedia:Requests for capital punishment (for the creation of which a consensus has yet to emerge, surprisingly...). Thanks once more! :) Joe 22:53, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
