File source problem with File:Bausch and Lomb Logo 2004-2010.svg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Bausch and Lomb Logo 2004-2010.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:39, 9 June 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Powers T 15:39, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Bausch and Lomb Logo 2010.svg, too. Powers T 15:40, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
>> Source information was originally there and was removed by Terrillja. Should I revert to my original version? I'm posting this on your talk page, as well. lordoftheoats 18:33, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Terrillja is very, very wrong. All images require source information; that's why we have a speedy-deletion criterion for images without it. Powers T 18:57, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
>> Okay, thanks. Reverted all. lordoftheoats 19:19, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear, I believe Terrillja is probably correct that these images are {{PD-ineligible}}. But the source information needs to stay. Powers T 19:23, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
>> Okay, fixed (I think). Lordoftheoats (talk) 19:33, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have read this on Staedtler page's history: "There is NO reason to be replacing an SVG with a PNG, especially when the colours are non-standard!" Fma12: please justify the PNG's use if you want to use it.".... that is not very polite from you, but apart from that, you don´t need to use "!" symbol to emphasize your sentences, so I can understand without "writting aloud". 2) Who said the colors are "non-standard" as you stated ? Blue is the same as *.svg file, but using transparent background. 3) Generally, all brands have logos with both versions, in dark and light backgrounds, EVEN staedtler [1]. In WP, for example, Coca-Cola's logo with red typography on transparent background was used) Fma12 (talk) 23:59, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Fma12. My intention was not to be impolite, and I'm sorry that it sounds that way. I was confused because the SVG had been removed from the article twice with no reason given, so I was a little frustrated. Regarding the colours: you're correct, there is definitely a negative version of the Staedtler logo. As far as I can tell, however, Staedtler's preference is to always use the standard white-on-blue logo unless it's being used on a dark background (which seems to only be on physical products). If you still want to make the colour change, you should update the SVG instead of uploading a new PNG. For simple logos, SVGs are always preferable because they are vector-drawn, and thus infinitely scale without degradation. If you have any other questions, please feel free to talk to me on here. Again, I was not trying to be rude or disagreeable. Lordoftheoats (talk) 06:59, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lordoftheoats. First of all: thanks for your apologies ;), I had perceived some kind of impolite behaviour from you, but it's all clear now. I decided to write you because that's the way I like better to reach an agreement with the other part. I understand you might have felt a little frustrated, but my intention was not to vandalize the SVG or to disregard your contribution. As I told you before, my preference is to upload transparent-background images so I choose the PNG format because this one allows me to work although has its limitations as a pixeled image (unlike SVG format, which can be increased infinitely). The point is I don't know how to make a SVG file with transparent background, is this possible? (I use Corel Draw to work with vector files, and then import the format saving as SVG). If not, I think that placing the blue-background SVG on the infobox again would be the best solution. Thanks again, regards from Argentina. Fma12 (talk) 14:36, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my experience with CorelDraw is limited (I think the last version I used was 9), but it's definitely possible to have transparency in an SVG. I use Illustrator, but you can use Inkscape (it's free) as well if CorelDraw isn't behaving. Do you still want to swap the colours? If so, I can do it for you. I still feel like white-on-blue is Staedtler's preference, though, but let me know what you think. Lordoftheoats (talk) 06:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted

[edit]

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 14:46, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
