Welcome
[edit]Hello, Lpg826 and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students.
If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.
Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.
Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}}
on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.
We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Seagull123 Φ 16:02, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you so much- that is very helpful! I do have one question that I can't find the answer to... if I am creating a page on a smaller company, is their website considered a credible source for information? Once again thank you for all of your help and you will probably be hearing from me again soon! Lpg826 (talk) 10:54, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there, saw your question over at the Help desk. A company's own website can be considered a primary source, in that it is reliable to confirm such details as that the company actually exists, the name, and what they do - but that does not mean that the company is notable - which needs to be ascertained by third parties.
- Here's a link to the wikipedia guide to reliable sources that you'll almost certainly find helpful.
- Just as a thought - but why don't you suggest to your class tutor that rather than creating a new article, which is fraught with obstacles to a new editor, you all choose a WP:STUB and aim to improve it? There are literally thousands of them in the Category:Stub_categories, so that might be a good idea? Chaheel Riens (talk) 16:33, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! That is very helpful and I really appreciate the idea... I will mention that to my professor! Lpg826 (talk) 11:25, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
