Advice for university projects
[edit]I just saw your message at the help desk about your university project. Wikipedia welcomes article creation in this way and indeed several "featured" and "good" articles have come out of such projects. If you and your students have not already done so, please take a look at our advice page for school and university projects. Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 16:21, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you. This is our second such project, and while none of our students' work made "featured" status last time, one was featured in the "Did You Know" section, which was exciting. Thank you. LycoHist210 (talk) 16:54, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
- I just read your project page at Wikipedia:School and university projects/Lycoming College Ancient History - excellent advice. Just one point: for attribution purposes, each Wikipedia account should only be used by one individual, so each of your students should have their own account rather than each group using one account. I was an ancient historian many years ago so I am very interested in your project and would be glad to help out with advice on formatting, linking and the more esoteric aspects of Wikipedia editing. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 03:52, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for the suggestion about accounts, but given the way we are tracking and grading the project, it's better for our purposes to have the students share an account. The project will begin soon, and I will certainly keep you in mind for advice on the intricacies of editing. Thank you. LycoHist210 (talk) 20:38, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Shared accounts are against policy and are usually blocked from editing, so please do not be surprised if someone else raises the issue, and/or reports users to WP:UAA. – ukexpat (talk) 20:47, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. I'll amend accordingly.LycoHist210 (talk) 20:18, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
