ordinals
[edit]I notice that you are removing superscripted ordinals (in accordance to the MOS). What about spelling out "1st", "2nd", etc in text, as the MOS says? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 18:25, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- As you said, that would be acceptable. It's just the superscripting that ought to be avoided; even ordinals are permissible, except for dates. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 01:35, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- WP:ordinal says to spell out ones less than 10. Thing like "The 1st thing he did..." bother me. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 02:35, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- Actually more like "He got 2nd place". It should be spelled out, according to the MOS. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 02:37, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, sure. You're talking about WP:ORDINAL, whereas I was mainly concerned with the superscripting aspect, which can encompass "22nd place" as much as "2nd time" (Note that there are still another few hundred articles with superscripted ordinals to deal with). As to numbers lower than ten, that could be an issue to be treated at another juncture. Of course it could be done by semi-automated means, but that would take planning and testing. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 08:00, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

- How do you find, say, all articles that use superscripted ordinals? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 01:58, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- I asked a friend to perform a string search for it using AWB. The list is a bit old, but it seems nobody's gone and touched many of them. Just have to run another list in a few months to catch the new;y created ones. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 03:23, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- AWB is so slow that I'm surprised it can do it. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 03:50, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- I think my friend leaves it running overnight, or before a period of intended absence from in front of the monitor. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 04:15, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Probably the best thing to do is download the whole thing, which can be done in a few hours, and then run a program on the downloaded data, which would take less than 10 minutes. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 22:44, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
