Prime number
[edit]You write: Hope that explains it. Unfortunately, you've forgotten to explain why it is in any way significant that the block time should be a prime number of hours. — Timwi 19:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- blocking 31 hrs is de facto 2 days in practice. hope that explains it. Bluedeck 19:03, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
- It would be more appealing and convincing to draw analogy to periodical cicadas, an interesting species which has evolved to have a life cycle of prime numbers 13 & 17 years as their predator avoidance strategy. --Quest for Truth (talk) 04:19, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
School
[edit]This pattern works particularly well for school kids, who probably make up 50% of vandals. If they start vandalizing at 9 AM one day, then the block will expire at 4 PM the next day, by which time they'll no longer have access to school computers. Conversely, if they can't do it at school and instead start vandalizing at 3 PM one day, then the block will last until 10 PM by which time they're probably asleep. To put it in more technical terms, most children are in a single "setting" of life for no more than 7 hours. RedPanda25 19:56, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
