- Chance of success will increase if this gets a lot shorter and if you identify on the Talk page which three or more refs meet the ref criteria. See also WP:NMUSIC. David notMD (talk) 15:56, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
Over-referencing
[edit]Simple factual statements do not need 5-8 refs. Yes, Declined, but that is more an issue of quality of refs, not quantity. Also, town bands may not clear the bar of notability. For example, my town of 10,500 has a continuous history of bands dating back to 1870, but I doubt Wikipedia notable. A minor comment - tag your edits as minor only when actually minor (see WP:MINOR). Good luck. David notMD (talk) 09:59, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you David -- your comments have been very helpful as I work to clarify pieces of the article. I'm looking at the notability guidelines for musicians and ensembles: Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Criteria for musicians and ensembles
- The Emigsville Band fits the guidelines for both 1 and 7:
- 1: "Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself."
- 7: "Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability."
- The band has appeared regularly across 3 centuries in news articles from organizations across York County (and these local papers have their own respective Wikipedia pages) that highlight the band's longevity and history -- not just trivial announcements of "upcoming concerts." Further, the band is one of less than 10 community bands from the late 1800's that still exists in the county, making it one of the oldest in the United States. As a county with a population of 450K+, it merits notability based on the aforementioned criteria.
- I sincerely appreciate your guidance and will continue to refine the article for revision. Michaelkirk7 (talk) 13:40, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
