Your contributed article, Encyclopedia-Nupedia

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Encyclopedia-Nupedia. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Nupedia. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Nupedia – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Dewritech (talk) 21:34, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Numedia Foundation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. 88.104.23.102 (talk) 16:48, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making nonconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Nupedia with this edit. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism. Thank you. @Flyer22: - I don't think this is vandalism. This is obviously an attempt to resurrect Nupedia and compete with Wikipedia. What evidence do you have that Mistoop was deliberately trying to deface Wikipedia via their edit?
Mistoop - To cut a long story short, if you want Numedia / Nupedia to be noticed, you need to get yourself in the news. At the moment, a news search for "Numedia Foundation" returns no valid hits. You need to make a strong and concerted effort to be noticed by the world at large, such as coverage in The Register, TechCrunch or any of the national newspapers. When that happens, somebody else will probably start an article about Numedia independently. I'd lose the advert for The Amazing Spiderman 2 as that destroys your credibility immediately. You can criticise Wikipedia and be notable for it (see Wikipediocracy), you just need to do some real work first. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:55, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ritchie333, my mistake; I don't remember issuing this warning. Sorry about the warning, Mistoop. Flyer22 (talk) 20:27, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Advice: COI and notability

[edit]

Since you are connected with the Numedia Foundation you have, from Wikipedia's point of view a WP:Conflict of interest, and should read that page and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. In brief, do not edit directly about the Numedia Foundation, but you may present a draft article for consideration by uninvolved users. To do that, click on Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title, or use the WP:Article wizard.

If an article is to be accepted, it will have to show Wikipedia:Notability, which is not a matter of saying so but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? JohnCD (talk) 10:59, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article William Pooley (Ebola Patent) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. 331dot (talk) 20:35, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:William pooley.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:William pooley.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. January (talk) 17:03, 16 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Turn Left (Doctor Who) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. -- [[User:Edokter]] {{talk}} 08:09, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Skovaji requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about something invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally, and it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to introduce jokes into articles, as you did at Skovaji, you may be blocked from editing. Wikipedia is a serious encyclopedia, and contributions of this type are considered vandalism.  —SMALLJIM  08:53, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

... and the same goes for any other kind of disruptive editing, including creating articles on subjects which are not remotely notable, edit-warring, editing to promote a web site, or any other kind of unconstructive editing. Both while you have been editing from this account and while you have been editing anonymously, the substantial majority of your editing has been unconstructive, and has resulted in considerable loss of time for other editors who have to clear up the mess. If you want to be free to write anything at all, unconstrained by Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, please stick to contributing on Wikia. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 09:38, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, you decided to ignore the above warnings, and went on doing the same sort of nonsense editing, so you have been blocked. Whether you thought that somehow or other switching to using a different account would make you exempt from being blocked, I don't know. Request reason:

In accordance with WP:NNH, I believe I was focusing on a niche topic area, as I did believe that Skovaji deserved an article on the wikipedia, although this was partially due to a misunderstanding of the notability guideline - I thought that wiki coverage would count as "notable". I now realise, however, that this does not deserve a page and that I was clearly warned that trying to recreate the page would lead to a block. I created a new account to escape the stigma of association with that and other fiascos, and spent a while editing respectfully. I then made a mistake, and tried to re-create the page. Thus, I was then blocked indefinately until a resoloution could be reached. I am very sorry for behaving in this manner and undermining both my own and Wikipedia's aim of building an encyclopedia, and I understand why the administrators though that I was believing in a very unreasonable amnner - which I was. However, I don't think that an indefinate ban is reasonable. I am happy to take a ban of a certain length as my punishment for doing this, although after that I hope you can see that I have understood what I have done wrong. If my ban is repealed, I promise not to make any sort of an attempt to create a page on Skovaji, the Exeter metro, or anything that is purely for my own sake - unless of course I get in the news or whatever. I also want to apologise personally to Smalljim, as I was very unreasonable on his talk page the last time this happened. If I get unblocked, can you unblock my other account as I use RailwayScientist elsewhere on the web, like G+, so it's basically my new name now. Mistoop (talk) 07:21, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I have unblocked the account RailwayScientist, to give you another chance, on the understanding that any return to the kinds of unconstructive editing that you did before the block are likely to lead to the block being restored, with much less likelihood that it will ever be lifted again. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 16:28, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I was considering unblocking you to give you another chance, until I noticed "unless of course I get in the news or whatever" in your unblock request. Nobody is free to use Wikipedia for self-promotion, whether they are "in the news" or not, and the guidelines on conflict of interest discourage any editor from editing about themselves. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 15:58, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesBWatson: Okay, I forgot that. I more wanted to poitn out the fact that I understood the notability guideline, rather than to suggest that I wanted to create a page on a personal project. I won't do that, and I can only ask that I have one more chance. I am clear of the consequences, and I will not ask to be unblocked again - I really want to help to build the encyclopedia.
