Brian's Review of Habitats Directive

[edit]

Good job overall, this article is clear, well-written, and well-organized. I have one kind of major change:

["Habitats Directive assures the conservation of endangered native animal and plant divisions. It aims to protect 220 habitats and approximately 1,000 species listed in the directive's Annexes. These are species and habitats which are considered to be of European interest, following criteria given in the directive.[8][9] It directs Member States of the EU to take measures to maintain the "favourable conservation status" of protected habitats and species.[10]

Annex I covers habitats, Annex II species requiring designation of Special Areas of Conservation, Annex IV species in need of strict protection, and Annex V species whose taking from the wild can be restricted by European law."]

This part I feel belongs in the lead (maybe second sentence), as it gives a good description of what exactly Habitats Directive is (sorry for this terrible formatting).

Other than that, just a few small things:

- Would it be possible to find the date of conception of the Habitats Directive and include it in the History section? This may be too much to ask because searching for specific pieces of info is a pain, but I think if it were to be added it would add some meaningful context.

- "In Germany, Austria, Italy and Belgium, conflicts between various government layers have been observed and thus, prolonged delays in the management of nature policies" change to "In Germany, Austria, Italy and Belgium, the observation of conflicts between various government layers have caused prolonged delays in the management of nature policies."

-"The disadvantages of the policy have been believed to raise awareness on Europe’s implementation of policies." Reword this, right now it seems like this is stating that the disadvantages of the policy objectively exist. Also, it is not clear who is stating these disadvantages.
